Have You Seen This Wand? closed

Taking place on September 12th, 2020 at 1400, Ravenclaw house table

This thread is for @Dealla Prince, but open to two Ravenclaw bystanders that would like to get involved. Please owl to notify me of your intended entrance.
Following an afternoon where two prideful students engaged in combatives via awkward dancing(Dee was winning), Thomas was left feeling...empty. Not due to the emotional wear and tear of being in the company of conceited witches, but to leave this interaction without his wand in hand was an embarrassing status for the Slytherin prefect.

While the origin of this status is a topic he preferred to avoid, he knew it would be thrown in his face time and time again. His only course of action was to retrieve his wand in emphatic fashion. The feelings of embarrassment would quickly extend to Dealla, whether she saw it coming or not. Losing his wand to the insufferable bird in a low-trafficked area on the grounds would dim in comparison to the way he would retrieve it in front of many of their peers in the castle's Great Hall.

If the entrance doors were closed, Thomas would open them firmly with enough force to provide a impactive sound against the stone wall's at each door's side. He walked briskly towards the Ravenclaw table, traveling around the exterior in search of his wand thief. After deeming she was not present, he opted to cut out any wasted time in a suspected approach to the Ravenclaw common room, a place he's visited once before.

The boy stopped at the table's end, the side closest to the long table where the school officials were normally situated. With a neutral expression, he gripped the table with his palms, vaulting his frame atop the Ravenclaw table and beginning a slow walk along its surface. He would turn to Ravenclaw students on his left and right, asking a repetitive question until someone decided to speak up. "Dee Prince. Do you know her? Where is she?"

It was well into Winnie's second week attending Hogwarts and she still felt lost. She had yet to make a single friend, aside from the friendly chatter she had with a few of her housemates. She missed her mother's loving smile and warm hugs and longed for the animal friends she had left behind on her family's farm. It had been difficult for her to sleep without the warmth of her dogs in the bed next to her and it probably showed; her robes were rather wrinkled and she had tossed her hair up into a sloppy bun, with her wand stuck inside of it as a hair stick. The intricately carved handle stuck out the top.

She sat at the Ravenclaw table, her art journal and her travel watercolour kit opened as her paintbrush swept across the page, adding the final touch to a small painting on a giraffe. If she couldn't make human friends, she would paint herself one. "Hello Sir Gerald." She said to the painting, "You're looking dapper today, my good sir."

It would seem her lack of sleep and loneliness was getting to her. She was cleaning up her mess when suddenly a boy stepped on top of the Ravenclaw table and asked for the location of someone named 'Dee Prince'. Prince... Where had she heard that name before...? "Oh! I know Dee Prince!" She suddenly announced when he had arrived at her spot, her hands quickly pulling her art work away from his feet as her blue eyes peered up at him. She hopped up to stand and smiled, despite the boy's neutral expression. "If she's not at the table, she might be in the Ravenclaw dorms. If you come with me, I can go in and check for you..." She wasn't sure why she offered or why the boy was looking for her, but she couldn't stand this lonely feeling any longer. She wanted someone to talk to, even if it were just for a moment.

"Ninny Winnie's got a boyfriend." One of her classmates whispered and snickered with her friend.
"Which one? The boy or the painting?" Another nameless classmate replied.

Winnie's cheeks burned a fiery red in her anger, but she simply glanced away. Her mum had told her bullies lost their thunder if you didn't give them a reaction, so she started to walk away from the table. "C-Come on, let's go." She shouted over her shoulder. She assumed the boy would follow her. If he didn't... Well, she still wanted to escape to the dormitory. She would not stick around to listen to anymore mean comments.

A bunch of pacifists it seems, hardly a stir as Thomas unapologetically walks across the Ravenclaw house table. Seemingly so focused on avoiding howlers for an A-minus, the real world a passing image in the background for these wordy birds. Symbolizing more of a pre-teen youth group amidst bible study than a group of students that could set fire to anything with a flick and whisper.

Lestrange wouldn’t judge, even the barriers of house can’t confine such a large group to se the same dull personality. On cue, a lively energy emerged from young red-head girl. Pale blue eyes combining nicely with her reddish locks. Reminiscent of the famed Weasley family, though her placement in Ravenclaw solidified this wasn’t the reality.

She was amidst a…creation, a picture. Is this…art? Sure, we’ll call it art. An emboldened giraffe(?) jumped off the page to Thomas in unison with the girl’s emphatic offer to help. Another young innocent soul still in the queue for pain and despair. Hopefully for her sake, it would not come. ”That’s a lovely…animal you have there.” His words left in a kind manner, though his expression twisted into that of confusion when he spoke.

Near the head of the Ravenclaw table a hiss was heard from none other than Kit Paine, a fatigued glare issued in Lestrange’s direction with the mouthing of one word: Down. It appears, like Gerald, Thomas had been relegated to an animal.

The boy complied, not overly fond of how the caretaker liked to distribute negative reinforcement. Swiftly hopping down outside the table’s perimeter, standing behind where the young Ravenclaw girl was placed. ”I’d appreciate if you could.” Thomas spoke softly with a tone of underlying gratitude. “She insisted I come find her.

After agreeing to follow her, a pair of voices spoke out as they departed. So there is some personality in this bunch, imagine that. Teasing the girl, as if her willingness to help him implied she has an instant crush. How kind acts are so easily misoncstured.

Thomas being Thomas, elected to play along. The best defense is to embrace. “Yes she does, what of it?” He stared down the pair of faceless girls coldly, letting them sit with this image for several seconds before his features softened into a smile. A conceited smile, but a smile nonetheless. Looking back towards Winnie as they called her, Thomas would motion towards the Great Hall’s exit with one hand. “Care to lead the way, dear?”

Thomas was your trademark asshole, but it wasn’t often he was in a position to help his peers. Seeing as Winnie jumped at the opportunity to help him, it seemed only fair to return the favor. Though of course, his acknowledgement as her “fill-in boyfriend” may leave her twice as red as she was before.

Perhaps the students of Hogwarts were simply unphased by such occurrences considering what passed as ordinary in this school. A Slytherin boy stomping about their lunch like some sort of reject fashion model hardly seemed concerning when the forest hosted a group of hungry hags who enjoyed turning them into child-sized lunchables.

The realization that he had seen her painting caused the Ravenclaw to flush, a soft pink hue lighting up her features. Had he heard her talking to it as well? Not that she should really care what he thought, considering his strange table walking habits, but if they were going to be friends, they needed to start off on the right foot!

Thomas was not winning a charisma award anytime soon, but the possible insult was lost on the likes of Winnie. So sheltered from the outside world, she would not see the comment as anything other than a glorious compliment that would cause her eyes to widen and her features to light up. "Thank you! It's a giraffe. Have you ever seen a giraffe before?" She asked with a tilt of her head. She didn't want to be rude, but maybe visiting zoos wasn't something wizards did very often? What if this was an entirely new creature to him?! She continued to fret as the caretaker ushered Thomas off of the table. "I think they would look very dapper in a bowtie."

"She did?" Were the two playing a game of hide and seek or something? Winnie wondered if she could join in. She had played a lot with her childhood friend, Jack Warren, but unfortunately he was a muggle (so she thought) and she hadn't been given the opportunity to play since she had seen him last. "Well, don't worry; I know all the best hiding spots." She assured the older boy with the hint of a sheepish smile.

Children could be so cruel, but Winnie was slowly adjusting to their mockery. Sheltered most of her life, her lack of proper social etiquette was painfully obvious. Mixed with her habit of reading her poetry aloud and prancing around the common room covered in grass stains, glitter, and paint, the farm girl did not stand a chance. She basically had a large red neon target on her back.

She was also not used to people defending her. She stopped in her tracks at the Slytherin's comment, her eyes growing so wide they might rival a cartoon character's own. What? ... WHAT?! The young girl's face felt as if it were on fire as it burned a deep crimson shade. She could not meet the eyes of her tormenter or her apparent 'boyfriend'. Thomas' trick had worked, however; he had rendered the two faceless girls speechless and probably would be the subject of their gossip later that night.

"I-I..." When he called her 'dear', she had to hide her face within the security of her hands. The Slytherin was a handsome boy and she had yet to experience the cruel pangs of unrequited crush. This was far before a more confident, futue-Winnie would grab Mathias Pride by the face and forcefully kiss him. As far as she was aware, Matt was just her year mate; some kid that attended classes with her. Boys were just that; boys. She did not know they could cause her heart to flutter nervously, did not know how they could turn into her celestial muse, inspire her poetry; her mind whispering promises of tomorrows they would spend together that would never come.

Peeking through the cracks of her fingers, she would try to silently lead the older boy out of the Great Hall, starting the descent of the many staircases which led to the Ravenclaw tower. It was then that she would clear her throat and finally unshielded her face. "You... You didn't have to do that, they're just... Always like that. A-Also, I don't date paintings--..." She quickly added, as if the boy would actually believe that part of their tale. "... I'm Winifred Harper, by the way, b-but you can call me 'Winnie'. W-what's your name?"

Little miss Harper displayed feelings on her sleeves, providing an easy target for Thomas and onlooking Ravens alike. Though given her willingness to help, Thomas delayed any harsh analysis of the way the young lad carried herself. ”A giraffe, yes. Familiar enough. You know what, this is the first time.” A bold faced lie spoken with a nod and forced smile.

A giraffe with a bow tie? Narrowed eyes, lids tightening in slight judgement, opting to press his lips with a short controlled nod. Yeah not biting on that. Instead the boy allowed the giraffe’s suspected fashion wardrobe to fall below more pressing topics, such as Dee Prince’s kleptomaniac habits. ”She sure did. She told me to meet her outside the girl’s dormitory in the Ravenclaw common room.” Thomas’ eyes scanned to the left, as if drawing from memory. ”Not the first time I’ve been there, believe it or not.”

Fondly recalling the memory of a detention in the Raven common room. The result of a study session where Erin, Howard, and Thomas played dominoes with the library’s bookshelves. A fond memory in retrospect. The young Raven transitioned to a game of hide of seek, leaving Thomas with a quirked brow, mildly tempted to shake the girl to focus. Her attention span may as well have resembled the adorable giraffe on the parchment below.

As Winnie folded under the insinuation they were a thing, Thomas would offer a huff of impatience and offer his hand. ”There there. I know, life is hard.” With a deep breath, he reset his features with an encouraging tilt of the head toward the Great Hall’s exit. Though Ms.Harper was likely too busy, covering her face in shame. Thomas allowing his hand to fall empty by his side, slightly grateful to do so. Instead nudging the girl’s shoulder softly, ushering her towards the exit.

As they escaped the many peering eyes, the girl would expose her thoughts once more. ”Thomas Lestrange. Again, charming giraffe, but that is not who I meant.” Offering his name and that he could care less about the insinuation of who the student body thinks he’s dating.

Having traveled to the Ravenclaw common room before, Thomas would quicken his pace. His long legs possibly carrying him ahead of Winnie, urgent to retrieve an essential item for his daily lessons. When they arrived, he’d lean against the wall off to the side. ”Still a rotation of riddles for entrance?”

There was no denying that Dee was having a rather busy day. Starting off with an impromptu waffle party at breakfast, then on her way to spoil some pets despite the fact that she neither owned one nor particularly liked most animals. Out onto the grounds to let her best friend teach her some dancing, where the day took an unexpected twist that left her with no more skill in dancing but instead a wand that wasn't hers. Back to the castle to finish setting up the welcoming party for their new Head of House... but before that, there had been other preparations to make.

Of course, she'd expected that Thomas Lestrange would come to reclaim his wand. Even those less competent with magic needed to use them for class at least, after all. Dee hadn't known when - how long it would take him to recover from their encounter on the grounds, how eager he would be for a repeat performance - but she'd wanted to be prepared. After all, she wasn't going to just hand the wand back to him. The Slytherin could work for it a little.

That taken care of, Dealla hurried to catch up on party preparations. She'd abducted some things from the Great Hall during lunch, then stashed them up in her dorm room. A banner of debatable artistic value had been prepared, other tasks had been delegated. Still, despite her determination to be prepared for his arrival, she hadn't expected Thomas Lestrange to just waltz into their common room while she was carrying a bowl of potato crisps to add to her growing snack pile upstairs.

Dee was just setting down the bowl next to her bed when a voice came from behind, calling for her. "E-Excuse me... D-Dee Prince?"

The girl the voice belonged to must be one of the new first years, hadn't been around long enough or drawn enough attention for Dee to remember a face or a name. She seemed flustered, cheeks pink and words stuttering, and Dee tilted her head to one side, questioning. "Yes?"

"Um... T-This is for you! I mean-- He's looking f-for you... N-Near the entrance... Um..."

Dealla's eyebrows lurched upwards at the information. He was looking for her? There was only one he she currently expected to be interested in finding her, but she hadn't expected him to be quite this fast. So, Thomas Lestrange was waiting for her down in the common room. She hadn't intended for him to break in here, either. This was supposed to be a safe space. She'd have to usher him out as fast as possible.

"I... I'm so sorry... I have to go!"

Blinking at the ginger-haired girl's hasty retreat, she just gave her a quick smile and a nod, not much attention to spare for her now that her message had been delivered. "Thanks!" Dealla called after her. "But please, in the future, don't let strangers into our common room. Especially not the sketchy ones."

With that, Dee was out the door and down the stairs, a small, excited grin tugging on her lips. She wasn't going to admit it, but their encounter down on the grounds had been fun, in a way. She'd relished the odd competition, had been almost disappointed when Ileen had interfered. Perhaps that was why she'd taken the wand, made certain to provoke another encounter. There would be no meddling this time.

Slowing down for the past few steps - after all, she didn't want Lestrange thinking she was eager to see him - Dee entered the room with her hands on her hips. If she found her new adversary waiting there, she would raise her eyebrows, a challenge in her eyes. "Did you get lost? This isn't the snake pit."
