Mysterious Maze Group 6
Late Evening - Aug 10th
After the students had so graciously helped destroy part of the school grounds before leaving for summer vacation, Eliseo had set to work preparing a bit of a surprise for those students who would return over the summer. Taking up a large piece of the grounds, there was now a looming hedge maze just begging for the passing and curious student to wander into its depths.
The maze would be open in the early evening for students to try their hand at navigating their way through the labyrinth. The somewhat strange Groundskeeper was quite curious to see how quickly the students could meander their way to freedom but made sure to work a few surprises in the dark depths of the maze.
The lowering sunlight allowed the heat of the day to relent and the excessive height of the hedges further cooled the air within the labyrinth. It had been quite challenging to erect the massive structure but Eliseo believed its winding corridors would allow the students to truly find themselves...or become inexplicably lost and terrified.
While the interior of the maze was still shrouded in mystery, the entrance offered its welcome. In the wall of dark green hedges were three large openings. Three different entrances into the maze would offer slightly different journeys for the travelers. But once inside, there was no telling what twists and turns would be waiting. An unnatural fog sat around the maze further obscuring the depth in which the students would be able to peer once inside.
Each maw of the maze was ready to claim its victims, but Eliseo had faith in the students to find their way. In his final walk through the maze, he had dropped a particularly scrumptious-looking cupcake and was rather disappointed that it was now lost in the maze. But perhaps some noble student would locate it and be able to rescue it before it was lost forever. Or perhaps there would be students lost in the maze forever...Probably not as that would reflect poorly on the future of Eliseo’s employment but he assumed that some students may find themselves more interested in the deadends.
But now, divided into small groups. It was up to the students to decide what they would do. Would they stick together? Would they scurry off on their own? Only time would tell. Their firs choice was simple. They needed to choose which of the three entrances they would be venturing into. The Northern and Southern entrances both seemed to weave to the left while the center entrance quickly turned to the right. Any of the entrances could get them through but each held different bits of absurdity within the ominous fog.
Navigation Options
All participants can choose to enter one of these entrances:
1. The Northern Entrance - It has a strange smell of watermelon lingering in the air...
2. The Middle Entrance - There is a note pressed against the side of the entrance reading 'Are you sure?'
3. The Southern Entrance- On the ground just in front sits an empty bucket.
How to Navigate the Maze
1. Each round you can choose an available direction to travel or to take a different action.
2. Each moderation will list the available directions for each student.
3. You can choose to stay as a group or wander off on your own. But if you are alone...beware of the orange.
4. Depending on the paths chosen, you may encounter challenges or changes within the maze.
5. Stats will be used in this tread and thus you will need to ensure they are in your trunk.
6. There will be a moderation post at least once a week. Quicker moderations will be done if all active participants have replied.
7. If a participant misses two weeks of moderation, it will be assumed they decided to take a nap and will be removed from the maze for their safety!
8. As always...clothing will be required in this thread!

*Please note: I don't wish to godmod anyone, which is why my post is phrased in a certain way*.
Winnie had been delighted to discover there would be an adventure in the form of a maze waiting for them this summer. She wasn’t certain why the sign-ups had asked for the student’s favourite fruit, but she could only assume it was how they would be divided into their groups. Surely this had to mean everyone placed in her group was a fan of strawberries, the obviously superior fruit!
It just so happened that Winnie was already decked out in the appropriate attire; a baggy strawberry print pink shirt that was half-covered by her white denim pinafore. On her feet, she wore a pair of light pink converse that the girl had no doubt sunk into a bucket of bleach and hand-dyed, considering the dye job was a bit sloppy. Loose socks hung at her ankles, and she had made certain to wear a pair of bike shorts underneath her skirt for the ease of adventuring.
Perhaps the most interesting piece of her attire was the goofy handmade felt strawberry brooch that was pinned to the upper left side of her pinafore. The accessory had been created with a set of googly eyes and an equally horrifying smile. Worry not, dear friends, for her 'masterpiece' was not one of a kind; she had made enough for all of her teammates. Individual style? What was that? They would wear these badges, and they would love them!
It would seem that Winnie was the first member of her team to arrive, but it was no matter to her. She took her time peeking around at the entrances while she waited for others to arrive. The sweet scent of watermelon was wafting through the air, but its allure was lost on Winnie, and she was obviously not going to go in that direction. She would go for either the middle or southern entrance depending on what her team decided.
When/if Ravenclaw prefect, Pericles, arrived she would greet him with a beaming smile and a courteous call of his name before passing him his handmade badge. Any other members of their group would be passed the same goofy badge as they filtered into the area. (Whether you accept the badge/your reaction is of course up to you!)
As for a certain Slytherin prefect... Once/if the boy dared to take on the maze, she would set her sights on him. Ah yes, he looked the perfect amount of grumpy. Well, she would just have to brighten his day, and what better way than a smiling fruity friend you could wear on your shirt? She would skip over to the boy and slap the badge directly onto his shirt, and then would point towards the southern entrance. ”Team Strawberry ensemble! This maze doesn’t stand a chance!”
Action: Aiming for the southern entrance, but not entering it just yet.

Percival was skeptical of the maze at first, considering an idea of the kind hadn't been used since the fateful tri wizard cup. Nonetheless, his curiosity to try such an unusual activity was getting the better of him. When he signed up, they asked the question of his favorite fruit. It sounded stupid at first, but as he'd soon know that wouldn't be the case. Of course, strawberry was the best fruit, but it was a matter of whoever had the same taste as him.
Deciding to change things up, Percival wore a black, short sleeved shirt and stylish black shorts. He knew running around in sweaters and jeans was a bad idea since it was more likely to weigh him down and get completely ruined by what was lurking in there. This attire on the other hand was light, giving him plenty of room to move freely. His shoes were almost similar to running shoes, comfy and easy to create speed in if needs be. At least he had somewhat prepared for this event compared to the others...
After a short walk to the maze entrances, Gray thought he was the first to arrive. Until he saw the ever eccentric girl known as Winnie. Without a word she began skipping over to him eagerly, making the expressionless Percival stop in his tracks "Don't you-..." was the only thing he could groan before she slapped the badge on his shirt. Gray lowered his head to the silly looking strawberry and sighed, a hand slowly lowering down his face as he grumpily looked back up to the Ravenclaw "Ridiculous. This is only a temporary group, not the strawberry number 1 fan club" he mumbled to the girl as she went over to the southern entrance.
He watched her as she tried to assemble whoever had arrived, but instead, Percival pretty much ignored the pretentious calling and walked to the middle entrance with interest. The prefect glared at the words plastered on the front "Are you sure?" with curiosity. Was it a trick to prevent students from going down an easier path, or one that actually meant what it said on the tin. Looking back to Winnie and the others that had arrived at that point, he decided to try something incredibly risky "I highly suggest we take the middle path. Although, if everyone wants to follow little miss Strawberrys plan, then I have no complaints." he said with a small shrug as he looked into the distance of the middle entrance "The temptation of doing this alone is ripping me apart. But even I know sticking together is probably the smartest option we can choose"

Well, it would seem that Mr. Grumpy Gus wasn’t as pleased with Winnie’s very generous present as he should have been. No matter, this gray cloud wouldn’t hide the relentlessly bright ray that was her sunshine. She simply placed her hands on her hips and offered the boy a toothy grin. “I think the correct response to a gift is thank you, and you’re very welcome.” With a playful wink, she reached up to adjust the badge. “I know we’re not a fan club, but we’re still a team.” She had also noticed the boy hadn’t ripped the badge off of his shirt. The large googly eyes and toonish character were a stark contrast to his otherwise dark attire.
The Slytherin’s suggestion snapped her out of her present giving. “... My name is Winnie. Winnie Harper.” With a huff, she walked over to the Slytherin. "... What is your name?" She would forgive him for calling her ‘strawberries’ for now, since she had failed to ask his name earlier. "We’re not separating the group. If you’re set on the middle entrance, I’ll follow you too, but what makes you think we should go this way?"
Her attention shifted to the middle entrance. She squinted as she stared down at the note, “The note is questioning our choice to enter the maze, and I do not believe it’s a trick question. Many of the students will assume as much and enter anyway. It’s a double trick of sorts. I would suggest we take it at face value.” She tried to explain to the Slytherin. “Although the bucket could mean many things, I think with the fruit theme they perhaps meant us to fill it up. I’m a Ravenclaw, we need to answer riddles to even enter our dormitory.” She puffed out her chest as if she were proud of this, never mind the fact that she was a terrible Ravenclaw and had been locked out a night or two and had to rely on a housemate to let her in. What Gray didn’t know would most likely hurt him. ”But if you’ve got your mind made up... Lead the way."

Gray could only roll his eyes to her first few responses and the wink he gave him, this was going to be a long day "Yes, we're a team, for now" he mumbled as he looked down to the goofy badge and shook his head in annoyance again. His temptation to rip it off was magnifying, but right now he had no other choice to but keep it on and appease his childish teammate. It clearly stood out from the rest of his dark clothing and looked more like a stain than an actual badge.
"The name is Percival Gray, it's finally a pleasure to meet you Winnie" the prefect said sarcastically. He had heard her name around the castle a few times, mainly rumors about her lovers which seemed to be an endless list at this point. It wasn't any of his business to poke his head into that, nor be a part of it by any means.
"No... like I said it would be very unwise to separate, considering we're the only two people that have dared to arrive" he mentioned as he looked around them. For all this time he and Winnie were the only ones to show their faces, something of which made him grumble since he'd have to drag the overly loud strawberry girl through the entire maze. "I want to hear your reasoning first before I throw my coin in," the boy said, allowing her to go first and explain her reasoning.
Nodding slowly as she spoke Winnie made a few good points. It was true the note at the front could be a double bluff, tricking students into going down a harder path compared to the rest. However, the bucket was something he couldn't click with "Yes, you're correct that we will need to use it. But it doesn't mean it's just for that particular path alone. I'm sure if we bring it with us through the middle we will still find a use for it." he commented while walking up to the bucket and picking it up from the handle with his right arm.
"My choice still rests on the middle, so by all means blame it on me if I'm wrong." he said back to his partner, before walking to the edge and looking into the distance once more "Try to stick close. I can't promise I'll be coming back for you if you get lost" Gray said sternly, a deep breath coming from his mouth as he took his first step into the unknown.

"Percival Gray?" She repeated the name. It sounded familiar, but she definitely would have remembered Mr. Grump’s face if they had met before, right? How did she know him... "Oh!" She suddenly snapped her fingers, a figurative light bulb going off above her head. "You’re one of the Slytherin prefects, right?" She paused when the end of his sentence hit her. A flush crept up onto her face, colouring her cheeks a light pink hue. "F-Finally...? You’ve heard of me?" How? She wasn’t a troublemaker... "O-Oh um... Does Jack Warren talk about me?" Prefects had meetings, right? "We grew up down the street from each other..."
If not Jack, who else would ever bother to talk about her? Surely he hadn’t heard the mean whispers about her. Wait, he was a Slytherin Prefect, so maybe that meant... "Was it Mattie?" She asked, a smile lighting her features. Of course, Matt might have mentioned her! "I mean, Mathias Pride; he’s my boyfriend." She quickly added in so the boy would understand the context if she was incorrect.
"I thought there would be more of us. We can’t be the only people who like strawberries. Or maybe they chickened out or--... Oh! Could they already be inside the maze?" She walked closer to the entrance, peering inside of it as if the entire group would suddenly appear. Unfortunately, it looked like they were a team of two for the time being. It was definitely disappointing that no others had arrived, but if Winnie had to embark on this adventure, at least she wasn’t completely alone. It was possible the others could eventually catch up to them when/if they arrived. With a sigh, she collected the rest of her badges and stuck one against the hedge near the middle entrance as a sign to any future teammates that the two of them had gone this way. “Now they’ll know we went this way.” Especially if they were strawberry lovers.
Percival’s suggestion to take the bucket with them was appreciated by Winnie. Her option usually wasn’t taken into consideration when she had to work with a team and the boy had not only listened to her but had created a compromise. "Good idea. I would hate to get caught without it if we needed it." Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad after all! Perhaps they, as opposites, could manage to traverse this maze together.
"It’s not entirely your fault. I’m following you in here. I could have gone off on my own." Winnie grabbed her aspen wood wand from her pocket. It had been intricately carved with a set of wings at the base and vines circling the handle. Gripping it tightly in her casting hand, she would follow Gray into the middle entrance. "For what’s it worth, I would come back for you if you got lost, but I’m planning to beat this maze, so make sure you stick close as well."

Moderation
Middle Entrance
@Percival Gray, @Winnie Harper
Well, it seemed that the note left at the central entrance was no deterrent for two of the students. It seemed that they would be having a little forced date in the spooky maze. Sure did they just meet, who cares, a maze can dream that it brought together true love... Regardless however, the two brave students would need to keep their wits about them.
As soon as Winnie crossed into the central path there was a low rumble from behind. Suddenly tendrils of roots and vines erupted from the opening. Branches weaved and pulled together as the hedges quickly closed off the entrance to the middle path, leaving the students standing in the dark corridor with no way to get out except through the maze. But perhaps they would welcome the shared alone time. Would there be sparks? A massive inferno? Who knows...Perhaps they would just want to make it through the maze without a hedge eating them.
With the entrance now closed, the path became darker and more still as the hedges offered no more movement. The path inside would quickly weave to the right through a winding, but open path. A short way down the path, however, the students would be faced with a new option. A narrow path branched sharply to the left while the main path seemed to continue forward for a short way. In the darkness, which path would they choose?

Maze Day! How could he almost forget Maze Day? Maybe it was because by this time during the Summer, he had enough sun. The meals were held in the sun, the games were held in the sun, and even the meals were outdoors in the sun. It wasn't that Simon wanted everything in darkness, it was just that he was a dhampir and he usually did his best to avoid the sun - not torture himself with it.
He had taken a break the last few days, spending much of his time either doing an indoor activity like arts and crafts or spending some extra time in his cabin. That, along with some cream that a third-year Slytherin gave him to use, he was feeling much better.
So when he realized it was Maze Day, he definitely wanted to go check it out because the idea seemed quite intriguing to him. It would be early in the evening by the time he got there and perfect, the sun lower in the sky so not to be as harsh for him. He could focus on the task of the maze.
Three ways to get in... Simon looked and there was a middle entrance with a note on it, but there seemed to be no way of getting in. Surely that couldn't be the right way."Anyone want to join me? I'm headed this way." He would choose the Northern Entrance, stepping inside and following the pathway to the left.

I told her. I want to play it solo so that's what I'd do. I want to play it solo so that's what I would do. But she has to follow me. She has to "protect" me because it's her "big sister' responsibility". Like I need protection. I'm not afraid of anything! That's what I keep telling her.
We are still arguing when the Middle Entrance closes. I wanted to go that way. It's a shame. But hey. I have to escape from Lin. Otherwise she'll end up killing me with all her stupid advice! I'll give her one last argument and then I'll run to the bucket to escape. I prefer a bucket to watermelons. A bucket is useful.
- Okay, Lin. You're going to let me go my own way. Before you get upset, I'll tell you again that I'm not afraid of anything! How could anything happen to me?
Then I turn towards the Southern Entrance to run towards the famous bucket, which I grab before stopping dead. My damned sister has caught up with me. I look back wearily. She frowns.
- Rikki. Anything can happen to you because you are not afraid. You take too many risks. You shouldn't go alone.
- You take it too seriously, Lin. This is a school! A school! Why would the teachers want anything to happen to us?

There was a charm to mazes. On any other occasion, becoming lost was worthy of alarm, and hitting dead-ends was typically a cause for frustration. In a maze, these otherwise upsetting incidents were turned into a sort of game. As with any puzzle, there were tricks to solving it, means to cheat or tactics to ensure one's success. There was also the tried and true method of simply seeing where it took you, and having a bit of fun along the way. As Pericles approached, he speculated the entrances and their curious clues with a mellow intrigue. This wasn't a competition, nor an assignment. He was entertaining the idea of picking a direction without any rhyme or reason, for once, when he was approached by the redheaded Ravenclaw Winnie. Surprise flickered in and out of sight through a bounce of eyebrows when he heard his name called. He answered with a low "Hello," questioning and oddly cautious, when the silly strawberry badge was placed in his hand. Instantly the traces of underlying wariness were replaced with warmth, and without question, he began to pin the googly-eyed thing to the front of his camp shirt, adding an airy "Thank you, Winnie." Where before he would have automatically taken off on his lonesome, the act seemed to remind the recluse that alliances were always an option.
The arrival of the newest Slytherin prefect, Percival, was met with a overly formal workfellow's nod should their eyes meet. When the snake suggested the middle path over Winnie's decision, however, Pericles' lips pressed into an uncertain line. No explanation had been given. The girl, on the other hand, had bribed them with badges. She went a step further with a logical note, equating the fruit theme with a possible goal, to which Percival implied they would probably find some sort of use for a bucket at some point in the maze. Pericles did not contribute any wisdom, or anything else of use really, aside from a dubious hum. Maybe he meant to instigate the back-and-forth with that hmmm. Sadly, there wasn't much more time to take in the spectacle. An abrupt rumble sent his slender hand flitting for his wand, jostling the pale pureblood out of his sleepy state. It was difficult not to live a little on-edge with all the spontaneous chaos of Hogwarts. But ultimately he was set at ease, the tremble nothing more than a magical hedge (the least of his problems). Fleeting thoughts that this was some sort of death trap were calmed with a moment's reasoning. He liked Groundskeeper Céspedes well enough to not presume he was a hag in disguise.
Their choices had been reduced, and if they didn't decide soon, the opportunity to partake in the maze might be gone altogether. A duo of ladies gathered buckets and took to the Southern entrance. Pericles pondered the path, though a relatively unfamiliar voice- that of Simon- asked if anyone was looking for a partner. Well, Team Strawgoogle had been brought to an unexpected end before it could begin. Why not pick a partner all the same? Simon had arrived at the Frog Choir auditions, though he hadn't sang, and they now shared Thestral Cabin. As the saying goes, birds of a feather, or in this case... horses of a wing? "Alright," came the answer and approach, inviting smile set on display. "I'll come with you." The sweet smell coming from the North was inviting enough. Perhaps it was a trick, something to lure them into a false sense of security, or perhaps Winnie had been on to something with her fruit theory. Only one way to find out.
