Compartment 20 PV Ava Silver Closed

Private with Ava Silver

It was difficult finding a place to sit on the Hogwarts Express as a new student with hardly any friends.

Phaedra's parents had gotten her up early to ensure she'd be early for the train, yet she still found herself shuffling around aimlessly on the train for an open seat. Some compartments were full of upperclassmen, who she knew better than to ask to sit there. Others had room, but she bypassed them, much preferring to have a few moments to herself before the inevitable friendly introductions were expected of her. After a few stressful minutes of dragging both her luggage and an increasingly irritable cat in her arms, the girl eventually found herself a seat in Compartment 20, surprisingly empty and close to the back of the train.

Placing her suitcase containing a change of school robes in the overhead bin, Phaedra plopped down onto the red seats exhaustedly. Her cat, Ophelia, jumped out of her arms onto the seats across from her and stretched.

Phaedra looked around the compartment. She knew of muggle technology and transportation but actually sitting inside one for the first time was unnerving. Her feet lightly tapping on the metal floor, Phaedra wondered if muggles had deathwishes to sit inside such claustrophobic and dangerous metal contraptions. She thought of how the ride would be hours long and huffed, imagining how quickly she could make it to Scotland through magical means instead.

Phaedra glanced out of the compartment window. Of course, she couldn't see her parents through the crowds of parents and students, but she imagined they had already turned to leave after their short conversation beforehand. "Have fun," her father had said before kissing her on the forehead. "Behave," he added, straightening up to stand over her. Her mother smoothed out the flyaway hair on her short braid, finishing with "And make good grades. Write to us. Σ' αγαπώ." They helped lift her trolley and its contents onto the train, waved goodbye when she climbed up, and that was that.

She couldn't say she was sad to leave her parents for the semester. With increasingly tense family relations-- her mind immediately went to her sister--  she wanted nothing more than to leave that environment. Phaedra loved her parents, she really did, but she was excited to begin this new chapter of her life and gain some independence in the process. Afterall, she had been prepped for this moment as early as she could remember.

Leaning an arm against the window and resting her head on it, Phaedra's eyes began to close. Maybe a quick nap was in order before the train started moving.

Compartment 20 PV Ava Silver Closed
Ava walked around the whole train, trying to find an empty compartment. She could sit with the older students - because of her family and last name, they would probably let her with no problems. But she did not want to. Why? It felt weird. And she was pretty sure that it could look like she was showing off to some people and she certainly did not want to have a bad reputation even before getting to the school she was going to be in for the NEXT SEVEN YEARS. She actually realized it only now and... It scared her.

The young Silver walked towards another door. Compartment 2. She opened it and saw only one person inside. "Uh... Excuse me, is this seat taken?" she said, pointing at the seat opposite to the student that was already in and shyly walked towards her with her trunk.

The person she was in the small 'room' it appeared to be a girl. She had a cat - just like Ava! Great, a topic for a conversation! she smiled and looked at her. "I see you have a cat," she said and took her jacket off, placing it next to her. "I have a feline friend myself."

A small black kitten jumped out of nowhere. Ava had him in one pocket of her jacket - yes, that's how small it was. She started playing with it with a fake mouse and looked at the girl. "His name's Bambo."

Phaedra had nearly dozed off against the window, until the shrill screech of the compartment's sliding door prevented her. Lifting her head, she looked to the door and saw a blonde, slender girl standing there, her hands full with trunks. She asked for permission to enter and Phaedra granted it with a nod.

Phaedra give the girl a tiny grin, and she then sat up in her seat at the new company. Her parents always lectured her about bad posture. "Hi. No, none of those are taken. You can sit here."

Ophelia, having her personal space invaded by this new face, let out a soft noise and jumped down to the floor to put some space in between them. She hid behind Phaedra's legs, under the seat.

"You do?" Phaedra leaned a little forward in excitement. "...Where is it? Did you bring it?" If there was one thing Phaedra loved most in the world, she would have to choose between cinnamon sweets or cats - except cinnamon couldn't return affection, not like animals could. There were too many instances of being comforted by Ophelia in moments of stress that Phaedra could recall, and she was grateful to have her.

Not so soon after questioning the girl, a small, black kitten popped out of the other girl's pocket, and Phaedra sat back a little in alarm, the sudden movement startling her. Her surprised expression quickly faltered after she realization that it was a harmless cat. She had to force herself to not let out an undignified squeal, but settled for a much quieter coo instead. "Aww, oh he's so, so cute," she said in delight, her hands moving up to cup at her own cheeks. "May I pet him? Hello, Bambo!" One hand went to stroke behind his little ear.

Still petting the kitten, she looked up to Ava. "This is Ophelia. I've had her for four years. She's very sweet but it takes some time for her to warm up to others," she said, motioning her head towards the gray and white cat, who was inching closer to sniff at the kitten. "Oh, and my name is Phaedra Stavrou. What's yours?"
