Wildflowers

After classes that Friday, Madeleine lingered at the cabin her school was staying in. She had decided to finish a letter for her mother before heading to dinner, where she would meet up with her friends. In this letter, she told her mother all about the Blossom Ball last weekend - how there had been an insane fight that broke out among the other school students. She left out the part about Cassanora getting hit by a stray spell, so her mother wouldn't worry too much, and instead included the part about them enjoying a dance at the end of the evening.Friday June 4th 2021 - dinnertime

After signing the parchment with a flourish of her quill, the brunette left her cabin with the letter in hand. She intended to make a trip to the owlery after dinner. She walked across the expansive Hogwarts grounds towards the castle, taking in the sights like she usually did. It was a nice day outside, with the sun still in the sky illuminating the grass and the narrow paths all over.
After scanning the scene, her brown eyes landed on a girl in the distance sitting among some wildflowers. Hm. She hadn't really checked out any of the wildflower patches. Learning that there was no official school garden here at Hogwarts had been a bummer, and she hadn't paid these scatterings of flowers much attention.
Deciding that dinner could wait a little bit longer, Madeleine adjusted her path and headed towards the girl and the flowers. As she walked, she noticed the girl's copper hair looked especially pretty in the sunlight.
"Hello," Maddie greeted, a smile on her face as she stopped near the edge of the wildflower patch. Still in her uniform - a white linen shirt, sky-blue coat and a beige pleated skirt - she would easily be recognized as a Beauxbatons student. Not to mention the prominent French accent. With a natural grace, she crouched down beside the flowers and the other girl. "The wildflowers here are pretty... are you collecting them for a craft?" she asked, so enamored with the flowers that she forgot to immediately introduce herself. Her eyes just studied the different blooms, and she used the hand not holding her letter to gently touch some of them.
Madeleine is a Charmer. You are just distracting. Distracting to look at perhaps. Maybe it is your wit or your charm, your grace or something else about you that is intangible but absolutely present.

It wasn't an uncommon sight to find Winnie sitting or kneeling between the rows of bright wildflowers that grew on the outskirts of the castle's grounds. Winnie Harper was still dressed in her airy black uniform as she carefully plucked a flower from the ground. Her thumb gingerly caressed the pedals before she placed the flower inside the brown leather satchel bag that lay open next to her. Several other types had already been twined throughout the long braid that cascaded over her shoulder and lay just above her hip.
Winnie always made certain to slide pressed flowers inside of the weekly update letter she wrote to her mother to show her what was growing along the grounds of Hogwarts. During the autumn and winter months, she would often send a leaf or twig. Her mother enjoyed studying the various plant life and she claimed it helped her feel close to her daughter while she was away at school.
She hadn't noticed the girl approaching her and was instead busy humming a soft tune to herself. Because of this, the sudden greeting had given her a freight and she jumped a bit, whipping around to stare up at the girl. Her face would heat up to a pink hue when she realized she wasn't some kind of enemy waiting to catch her off guard. "O-Oh, hello. Sorry, I was lost in my own head." Her lips curved into a sheepish smile as she pushed herself onto her feet, reaching down to dust off her robes. If they hadn't been such a dark colour, they might have been stained by now, but there were bits of spiky heath bedstraw leaves clinging to the hem. "They're not for crafts, I'm sending them to my mother! Um, she likes seeing what sort of things grow near the castle." She explained, her blue eyes looking the girl over. She had a lovely visage, with warm tanned skin, brown hair that seemed to shimmer with amber hues underneath the rays of the sun, and gentle features that made the Ravenclaw feel inferior. It was as if she were talking to an ethereal being.
She had to remind herself that she couldn't just stand there looking at the girl. She had learned that people didn't really appreciate being stared at, even if it was for a positive reason. "Um... You must be one of the visiting students?" Winnie would ask with a tilt of her head. She was cursed to state the obvious, it would seem. "My name is Winnie, Winnie Harper." She reached forward to offer the girl her hand, which was sticky with pollen.

Wildflowers

Madeleine's smile morphed into one of slight apology when she realized she had startled the girl. But rather than bring further attention to the girl being spooked, her focus went to the flowers. When the Hogwarts student explained why she was collecting them, Maddie was practically beaming. "What a coincidence!" The French slipped out in her excitement, but coincidence sounded pretty similar in English, so she didn't feel the need to translate. "I'm writing to my mother, too," she explained, straightening back to her full height and briefly gesturing with the hand that held her rolled-up parchment. "But I never thought about sending her flowers... she's not so good with taking care of plants, so they wouldn't last very long," she added with a small giggle.
Maddie's brown eyes went from the shorter girl's pleasant facial features to the long braid over her shoulder. The flowers entwined in her hair looked really nice, and she wondered how long it had taken her to do that. The French girl usually just let her brushed hair be loose during the day, or she would put it in a very neat bun (particularly during dance practices). Any special hair accessories were usually reserved for performances, but this girl's hair was reminding her of a time before attending school. She used to run around her hometown absolutely obsessed with having flowers decorating her hair. She and her friends in Colmar would regularly do each other's hair back then, trying all kinds of different styles and finishing them off with flowers. Good memories.
"Yes, visiting from Beauxbatons. My name's Maddie Nakamura," she introduced, a soft smile back on her face as she took the other girl's hand and shook it. The slight stickiness gave her just a momentary pause before realizing it was from the flowers. She picked up on the blue crest on the left of the other girl's cloak - that meant she was a Ravenclaw, right? Like Vladimir.
"Is your mother very interested in plants?" Maddie asked after their hands had parted. Her gaze fell to the satchel bag that Winnie had been placing the flowers into.
