Nyx was born Persephone Aphrodite Dove on February 14th, 2010 in Darlington, England. From birth they lived on the outskirts of the town with their mother, Pasiphaë, and her mother, Medea. Their home had two story’s and a basement with a large, lovely backyard filled with plants or every kind— magic and mundane— and every room had its own sort of enchanting aura. Their family life had always been simple, filled with casual magic in everyday life and the mundanity of doing your chores by hand.
Everything came easy in their family and their first use of magic was no different. Their mother had been harvesting some plants while their grandmother made pie in the kitchen while watching their little sister Psyche and Nyx had been playing amongst the plants filled with the fearless joy every four year old deserves to have. That joy grew every minute as they rediscovered the wonders of fruits the same way they did nearly every day. For whatever reason, that day they were particularly excited. Possibly a butterfly they’d seen flying around, or perhaps they were filled with utter wonder at how red a tomato was. Whatever the cause, that day while playing in the plants, Nyx used magic for the first time— they giggled and a tomato right in front of their face exploded. They’d blinked in shock and their mother had come over quickly to see if they were alright. They were. The four year old quickly burst into a pure, joyful laughter at the exploding tomato and tried, to no avail, to make it happen again.
As Nyx grew, so did their family. At 4 they already had one younger sibling, an angel of a one year old, Psyche. In three more years the next sister, Circe, would be born. This one was a little demon child. Running around and causing mischief wherever she went. And then, again in another three years, a little boy was born: Morpheus. A child had never suited their name better— Morpheus slept easily and always smiled like he was having the best of dreams. His birth had certainly been a shock to Nyx who before then had not realized boys existed.
The children of the Dove family had what many might call an ideal childhood. Having never really interacted with anyone outside of their family, they’d barely been exposed to the cruelty of humanity and the world. It simply was not their world. They had a nicely sized family, a grandmother and mother and four siblings. The only problem someone outside might’ve had with that would be the lack of paternal figures. They did not go to school and therefore did not have to suffer the pains of homework. Though one could argue that for them, all work was homework. Their family was casual as one could be, living easily and freely with one another, their actions smooth and relaxed. They spoke freely about whatever they thought and felt; they acted freely doing, whatever it was they wished; they dreamt freely, wanting whatever it was their hearts desired. They never needed to explain themselves to anyone. Either it was understood or it didn’t need to be. Everything in the Dove family simply was.
For Nyx, that hearts desire was knowledge. As a small child they were filled with wonder at their mothers garden and their interests only grew from there. Nyx would watch her grandmother bake and decide they wanted to know how. They would touch a poison ivy plant and wonder why it hurt and how. They adored learning about the world around them. How everything worked was the simple, basic knowledge that surely everyone wanted. They read about Greek myths upon learning that their whole family was named after them and memorized pages upon pages of stories. They poked and prodded and every little thing they saw. They followed their every whim and let however the wind blew that day decide what they learned. Their hearts desire was knowledge and so they learned whatever it was their heart wanted that day, hour, or minute.
Their family more than supported this. Their grandmother was qualified for homeschooling children and could have become a teacher herself if she wanted to. She taught Nyx and their siblings about everything one must know before going to Hogwarts. Beyond that, however, Nyx had private classes with her on a new subject every week with occasional returns to a past one. Sometimes it was world history, sometimes family history, any science, maths, or such that her grandmother knew and Nyx wanted to was taught. It was what they wanted and their grandmother wanted nothing more than for her grandchildren to get what they wanted in live. Hearts desire and all that.
This following of their hearts desire and every second thoughts was what lead them to decide, at the simple age of 10, that they did not wish to be Persephone Aphrodite Dove. It was an easy decision to come to for them. A simple ‘I do not want to be this’ and so they went to find out what they did want to be. This was one of the very few, few times they ever consumed muggle media of any kind. They went into town, a rare occurrence on its own, and sat in the library for as long as it took them to find out what they wanted to know about this topic. The topic of not wanting to be what one was born as. And the moment they found the term ‘gender queer’ they knew that was what they were. Well. Not quite. That was just what they felt in the moment. And Nyx knew themself enough to know that the feelings of one moment did not always bleed into the next. They sat on the concept for a good while before concluding that, yes, this was them. And if it wasn’t, well they weren’t going to make any life changing decisions regarding it at the moment. Just a name and pronoun change. They could always go back if they really, really wanted. So they told their family and, like everything else with their family, it was accepted pretty easily with only a few questions from the adults, a hint of worry from those same adults, and an overwhelming amount of love an acceptance.
The next big deal in their life was the kind awaited Hogwarts letter. It was opened with the whole family present. The shopping for school supplies was done the same way. As was the goodbyes at their departure on the platform. They promised to send a letter at least once a month and to never, ever forget their tiny little siblings who were a bit too worried about that.

About Being A Metamorphmagus
Reducio
Before the age of six, Nyx never really had a reason to think about or question their talent. They’d known about it before then but they hadn’t ever seen it as something unusual. The fact that their eyes changed colour with their mood or their freckles danced across their skin like the ever moving starry sky was not strange.Yes, their grandmother didn’t do it but why would she? She was cool looking and didn’t seem like the type who wanted to change anything about herself. And of course their mother hadn’t done it before but she had so many spells that changed the form of other things that Nyx saw that as basically the same thing. And neither of them really said anything about it. Not anything that indicated that it was strange. Not in front of Nyx, at least. Not that they could remember.
So is it really a wonder that the first time they questioned it was because of their growing but still tiny little sister? By then, Psyche was already three and filled with that same curiosity everyone has as a toddler. She’d pointed at Nyx’s face one day and asked rather plainly, “Why pink?”
Of course, Nyx explained as much as they thought was necessary and said with a shrug, “I feel pink,”
They thought that would be the end of it.
It was not.
That simple question sparked a discussion with their whole family and after it, Nyx had a million and one questions and twice as many ideas.
That day they learned that this power came from their oldest documented ancestor— from their mothers side, of course— Aphrodite Dove. She had been a beautiful woman and rather skilled with the Metamorphmagus talent. She changed her form often, her appearance as fluid as she wished. Most of the time, she changed it to what others desired. Rarely did she do what she herself wanted. This was very important to their family history. It was one of the reasons why they treasured a persons wants and needs, it was why they were a matriarchal family, it was the start of the family tradition to name their children for Ancient Greek deities. But in this moment, the most important part of it to Nyx at that time was that she was where they got this ability from.
For about a week after that day, they tried and tried and tried to change something deliberately. It didn’t work out. Then, they decided that they didn’t care too much about that. It was super cool regardless.
Their talent remained a constant in their life that they did not think much on, just like before that conversation. However it became more important to them afterwards.
As they grew older, it was this talent that allowed them more easily understand themself. After all, isn’t it much easier to live your life when you don’t have to over think what it is you are feeling? Their eyes changed colour based on their emotions and once they figured out approximately what each one meant things became so much simpler. It was easier to figure out that you didn’t like long hair when your body essentially told you by making it shorter. Part of the reason that they chose Nyx as their name was because of a comment Psyche had made about their ever changing freckles— how they looked like stats in the night sky.
Freckles that they wouldn’t have behaved that way if it weren’t for them being a Metamorphmagus. Sure, not everything changed all the time and it wasn’t as if everything they learned about themself was because of this talent. But it certainly made things easier.
So while Nyx didn’t have a reason to ever think about their talent before the age of six and didn’t actively consider it very frequently afterwards, it was still very much an important part of who they were.

PERSONALITY
As Of The First Day Of Year 1
Reducio
Nyx Eros Dove, like all people, has very many personality traits and interests and such. But if they did not, if they were simply boiled down to one trait, it would be curiosity. Curiosity is the most natural thing for them in the world. Every moment is filled with questions of how and why and where and who. On every topic they could have endless questions. About every person they could think up a million possible things to ask them about themselves. They are always curious, always interested, always wondering about something. It is simply how they are.
There are, of course, things they are much more interested in than others. Namely, herbology and potions. This is simply because they grew up surrounded by both. Their home was filled with plants, both magical and mundane. Their mother was always making potions for something or the other. Potions to them are the most wonderful form of magic. It combines natural resources of all kinds with magic and can even depend on astrology. Any subject that combines the fundamentals of the world(to them, plants, magic, and the ever growing universe) is absolutely astonishing and oh so interesting. They cannot help but be pulled in, especially considering their exposure to it from a young age.
When it comes to plants, Nyx holds a special love for them. Their first use of magic involved plants and they spent much of their life before Hogwarts in their family's oh-so large garden. They have come to consider plants just as worthy of life and care as humans, perhaps even more. They absolutely adore learning about them and it is their dream to spend their whole life around plants, learning about them.
It’s a rather simple dream, but not necessarily an easy one to achieve. They have responsibilities as the family heir after all. Not many, but certainly enough to keep them busy. Their main responsibility was to ensure that their family had the resources to continue on living their simple, desire based life in the future. This meant that spending their whole life surrounded by plants, while immensely appealing, would not be an option. At least, not until they had a stable career.
They barely worried about that though In fact, Nyx barely worried about anything at all. Their life was simple, casual. Their family knew each other as well as anyone possibly could. They never had to work hard for anything beyond homeschooling and chores and most of the time they did not mind either. They had no reason to worry about a thing. All they needed in life was to remember that they were Nyx Eros Dove, their loyalty would forever and always be to their family, and that they could do whatever they wanted whenever they wanted so long as it did not hurt their family or themself.
This led to Nyx being rather unreactive to certain things. Things like getting in trouble, being asked many questions, work, et cetera. Not in a bad way, just a way that implied that really there was nothing odd about it or they had very little to no experience with it.
