Calling @Erik Tharaldson
Date: February 20th, 2020
Time: Lunch hour
One hour. One hour of blissful peace all to herself. If she were being a little bit more disciplined, Evelynn probably would have been spending the lunch hour in the library to work on that week's assignments. Perhaps that's where she should have been. Unfortunately, she had given in to the temptation of nature's draw. It was an uncharacteristically warm day, the rays of the sun beating down unimpeded from the clear periwinkle sky to paint the castle grounds in full saturation as it hadn't done since well before the onset of winter. Thus, rather than confine herself to the artificial light of candle and stain-glass, the little lion allowed herself a modicum of freedom and had instead set up below the dappled canopy of a tree at the edge of the lake.

With a handkerchief serving as a makeshift seat to protect her school robes from the worst of any dirt, she leaned back against the cool bark. Ahead, her legs extended, feet crossed at the ankles, just barely visible beyond the hem of her uniform. To her right, she had pulled from her bookbag a selection of school texts. To her left, she had arranged some notes and prepared a pot of ink and empty scrolls for the assignments she intended to begin. Eventually. And in the distance, waves rippled lazily across the glass-like surface of the Great Lake as the giant squid basked in the heat of the midday sun. For all her well intent, however, the lot of it remained neglected by her attention.

Instead, upon Evelynn's lap lay open notebook.

There wasn't anything particularly special about the notebook, at least not at first glance. It was relatively small (no larger than a paper-back novella), and leather bound, with a strap that when closed could be wound around and tied about its middle. Pen — not quill — in hand and the spine supported by slightly bent knees, Evelynn began to write. As she did, she leaned forward slightly, head angling down. Auburn tresses shifted from red to golden whenever they caught the fleeting rays of sunlight through the gaps in the tree above shifting gently with the breeze. Sliding from her shoulders, they fell to hang over her work, like a curtain veiling some mysterious treasure.

Naturally drawn to the outside Erik had found himself once more on the grounds. The last few minutes he had spent at the Great Hall, but after quickly devouring his lunch he had grabbed an apple and went outside. He was wearing his usual school attire. A plain white shirt adorns the Slytherin crest, a tie covered in green and silver hanging loosely around his neck and a messenger bag hanging around his shoulder. He was glad to be outside the confinements of the castle. It wasn't like he hated to be inside, but too long would mean he diedinside. The werewolf just needed his daily doses of nature and fresh air. He craved for it. Oh, how much he didn't love it when a lesson was taught outside on the grounds. If you asked him it was far better to do it like that than be stuck in a stuffy, old classroom. Alas, you couldn't always get what you want, so Erik made due with the small moments he could afford to go outside. He actually cherished them.

As the blond boy got lost in his train of thought, and wondering just how lucky he was to find a moment for himself, it seemed he had found his way to the Great Lake. One of his favorite spots if he was fair. There was just something soothing about the lake, especially when you saw a few of his fellow peers feed the Giant Squid from time to time. Today it seemed the squid had decided to get a tan as it seemed to be enjoying the midday sun and the heat it provided. As Erik looked around which inhabitants of the Great Lake he could find more he saw a lonesome figure sitting against a tree.

Interesting., he thought to himself. Slowly and silently he made his way towards his prey. As he got closer he noticed she had to be doing some homework. There were a lot of papers and books scattered around. My, my. Don't we have a little overachiever on our hands here. Erik shook his head as he stood behind her. He pulled the apple out of his pocket from earlier and took a loud and huge bite out of the fruit. So, he spoke. What are you up to, little Gryffindork?

Interacting with @Erik Tharaldson
It had become something of a project for her, the musings of the Potter trial. Of the tapestries. Of the letters and the hags. If she wasn't in class or practicing her flying in order to prove herself a capable Quidditch player when the time came for it, then she was thinking about this. Even when she was supposed to be working on assignments, like now, she could rarely focus for more than half an hour before she was struck with some idea or another and had to jot it down before it escaped her. Perhaps project was an understatement. Obsession was more like it. It was a mystery to be solved, but one with missing pieces.

This was one such occasion where the drive to accomplish school work had been temporarily overcome by her need to clarify a few curiosities. Pausing in the trailing of her pen to the notebook in her lap, she reached over to pull closer one of books among those strewn about her. A book of potions, in particular. Single-handedly flipping it open, she had to cycle through a few pages before finding the one she was looking for. Eyes darted over the surface to quickly take in the information as fingertip slowly dragged down with the progression of her reading. Moments later, she was back to her notes, hastily scrawling in a few others.
Draught of Living Death — sleeping draught
- Puts drinker into deathlike sleep
- Powdered Root of Asphodel, Infusion of Wormwood, Valerian Root, Sopophorous Bean, Sloth brain
Sleep. A deathlike sleep. It was something she had read before, when reviewing the information from the initial Liberation meeting, but something she had overlooked. In light of the recent one, however, and the information that Aurelius had uncovered, something had occurred to her. So engrossed in thought surrounding the possible implications of this small detail, Evelynn failed to hear the approach of the curious Slytherin. Quite the shock to the system it was, then, when he spoke. Forcefully pulled from her thoughts, a jolt of surprise shot up and down the length of the girl's spine as her shoulders jerked in surprise. Posture straightening rigidly in an instant, she snapped her attention in the direction of the voice, notebook tipping to upside-down in her lap as she did.

"--Studying," she replied after a moment of delay, the boy's words taking a moment to be processed properly in her adrenaline-addled brain. Brows furrowed in annoyance at the interruption, her ire spurred further with the realisation of the insult slung.

In the brief moment of silence that followed, storm-grey eyes dipped to take proper stock of the individual who had dared encroach upon her space of solace. Slytherin, she noted, spying the crest. Lovely. Just what she needed. Until now, most of the students she had met from the House of Viridian had been every part the snake that represented them. The corners of her mouth turned down in a slight frown. That wasn't what really struck the cord of concern within her, however. It was the fact that she didn't recognise him at all, which could only mean that he wasn't a first year. And because she didn't know him, she wouldn't be able to anticipate anything.

"What does it look like I'm doing?" she asked rhetorically, tone dismissive as though that were answer enough and he could be on his way thank-you-very-much. Expression still reserved, she allowed her frame to relax, at least a little, and rest back against the tree as she had sat prior to being startled. Closing her notebook, she set it on the ground beside her — opposite to him — and slid is slightly under her thigh. "You're welcome to carry on elsewhere," she invited as demurely as she could muster given her defensive impulse, and pulled the potions book into her lap to replace the one she'd just tucked away.
