Attempt on Potter's Life in Azkaban

Harold Potter, best known as the "boy who lived" and the hero that stood against Lord Voldemort during the Second Wizarding War, fell from the public eye during his adult years. The next two decades, Potter worked as an Auror for the Ministry of Magic, many of his acts of heroism are not known to the public. Being an avid Potter fan myself during my youth, like many children I wanted to be "just like Harry."

However, disappointment seems to go hand in hand with adulthood. A little over a year ago Harold Potter was accused of murdering Dolores Umbridge. He was later convicted of her murder in a closed trial and sent to spend the rest of his days in Azkaban. This decision was wildly unpopular among the muggleborn and wizard born populations, however in statements by several older families 'the decision appears sound.' They call for consideration for the judge and his family as well as those involved with his case, commending the Ministry for keeping the names of those involved including key witnesses out of the public.

Critics complain that by hiding information it prevents the people from making an informed opinion. That the Ministry owes it to the public to divulge the records and the evidence that was used against Potter during the trial. A demonstration in front of the Ministry is anticipated next month.

However, not everyone appears to be supportive of Harold Potter. For the second time since his incarceration in Azkaban, an attempt has been made on his life. Relatively unharmed, Potter has reportedly declined treatment in St. Mungos according to his family. When asked for an interview, his wife Ginvera stated that he was unavailable for comment at this time but she has been endeavoring to find a means of open communication for Potter to discuss the trail as she has limited information regarding the proceedings and would also like to know more.

Ginerva has agreed to an interview with the Prophet in coming weeks.

SPEW Demands Wands

S.P.E.W., also known as the "Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare",  a society started by the former Minister of Magic Hermione Granger during her fourth year at Hogwarts. This society made strides towards securing house-elves fair wages and working conditions, both of which were considered to be controversial moves because of the social contract of consent and tradition that exists between house elves and wizards. There have been changes for house elves in larger public institutions such as Hogwarts, however the position of house elves remains largely unchanged in older, traditional wizard families.

It has always been an unusual dynamic for House Elves. Many House Elves are complacent in their servant role and find S.P.E.W.'s efforts to be a slap in the face of tradition. However, despite a unified front, as of late, S.P.E.W. is demanding that the Ministry change the laws about non-wand-use for house elves. They claim that as 'free elves' that are capable of magic, that they should be granted the same rights as human wizards.

The Ministry is hesitant to grant this privilege, but they do have a rule regarding partial human heritage. Those with more than half human heritage can use wands, however as the laws are presently set House Elves cannot own or use wands but they are capable of powerful wandless magic. Critics of the Ministry claim that these restrictions only exist to maintain the status quo because House Elves are capable of exceptional magic and that the Ministry fears giving a population that they do not have direct authority over power that might eclipse the human wizarding population.

A representative of the Rosier and Evans family claim that their House Elves are 'quote happy' with their roles and that they are 'well cared for.' And that the responsibility of managing their own affairs without direction is 'dangerously stressful to their fragile spirits.' They go on to advocate for a continuation of this ban, citing not only tradition, but also the fact that it is an 'unnecessary hassle' due to their inherent wandless magical skill as well as the fact that elves lack the will to wield such a magical device.

The unified statements by these two families has inflamed members of the magical community, however many minor families have acknowledged these claims. Stating that 'not all elves wish to be free' and that there is a reason for this. That perhaps we are placing our human standards on elves as we try to make them more like us, which is dangerous and inconsiderate moving forward.

There will be a rally taking place in front of Ollivanders next month. However, there is rumors of a potential counter-rally of wizards that plan to unify in London that same week.

Gideon Guerra to Bring The Students from the Castelobruxo to Europe

In an attempt to give the students of Castelobruxo an appreciation for the world at large, all 246 students will be arriving in Diagon Alley for a month-long vacation in Europe. They will be staying with the Yaxley family at the London estate for the first two days of their stay. From there they were supposed to take the Hogwarts Express to Hogwarts, however they will no longer be visiting Hogwarts because of recent safety concerns that have been submitted to the Ministry.

"The students should have been in communication with the Hogwarts students for months by now," according to Gideon Guerra. "They were supposed to be sharing a dorm with the student they have been writing to and get to experience European schooling first hand for the month," the Headmaster further explains. "However, we never heard back from their Headmaster and there have been reports of questionable security at Hogwarts which has given us second thoughts. You see, the safety of our children is always the priority." When asked to elaborate on the 'safety concerns' at Hogwarts, Headmaster Guerra declined to comment.

Instead, the students will be spending the month traveling between several pure-blood estates in the United Kingdom over the next month where they will be visiting various wizarding sites and learn more about wizarding culture in Europe first hand.

Malleus Maleficarum to be Modernized and Republished

Religious muggle organization, Mothers Against Injurious Magic (MAIM) announced last Saturday that they plan to review and publish the Malleus Maleficarum with the modern age in mind sometime in October. An outcry in the wizard community has begged the Ministry to put a stop to this 'unconscionable act.' Pureblood advocates, on the other hand, point to this as a sign that muggles are incapable of accepting magic into their world and call for Ministry-enforced separation of the magical and non-magical communities for the safety of wizards everywhere.

"Muggles can never understand the responsibility that every wizard bears that comes with their power. Like swine content to wiggle in their own filth, we are better off keeping our worlds entirely separate," according to Lucas Abbott.

The Malleus Maleficarum, also known as the "Hammer of Witches" was a treatise was written by Heinrich Kramer, a squib in 1487. This test resulted in a prejudice against witches and wizards, prompting many witch hunts the centuries that followed. Some of the victims of these witch trials were 'innocent' if one can truly call witchcraft a 'crime.' The violence resulted in a rift between muddles and wizards that follows some fanatical muggles to this day. The Malleus Maleficarum likened witchcraft with devil worship.

The Ministry declined to comment on this matter.

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.
