How To (Not) Be Awkward

Just be yourself. It was an easy enough sentiment, though Cadance worried about her first time surrounded by complete strangers all alone. At least at muggle school she knew who the teachers were on the first day, there was always a Meet the Teacher day sometime before school began. With Hogwarts, she didn't really know what to expect.

Sure, her parents had both explained the basics, from the train to the sorting ceremony and receiving schedules the next day. They also mentioned that every year there was always, inexplicably, some life threatening situation. A tradition they said began years ago when the famous Harry Potter attended classes in the very same building. Pish-posh, she thought, no one really cares about that old coot anymore. Harry Potter had fallen into the strange area of famous where only those who were obsessed with Rita Skeeter every paid attention to what he did.

The brunette's mother couldn't make it to see her off, and her father ensured that absolutely everything would be perfect for his little girl's first trip to Hogwarts. It was truly a coming of age moment, it had to be perfect. He helped her set her luggage up on the overhead shelf in an empty cabin, knowing she was too short to reach it, let alone strong enough to lift her trunk up that high. After ensuring that she had everything she needed one last time he gave her forehead a kiss and straightened her hair one final time before exiting the train to wait on the platform and wave her off.

Caddy, however, was so focused on waving to her father that she failed to notice if anyone had entered the cabin looking for a free seat. She knew that she was on a carriage dominated mostly by first years, and was excited to make friends she'd get to be with for the next seven years, but still mildly apprehensive about meeting new people. No time but the present though, and she faced whoever had entered with a welcoming smile.

"Hello," her voice was soft and sweet, though not obtrusively, "you're welcome to sit here if you'd like-"

A circle is round, it has no end. That's how long I want to be your friend.
How To (Not) Be Awkward
Hogwarts, here I come! though Aria as she boarded the train, her trunk in hand. Smiling, she twisted around, grasping the handrail tightly, to wave goodbye to her parents and family friend, who was also her now former homeschool teacher. They waved back. Aria clambered up the rest of the steps, and as the train started to move, another goal drifted into the black-haired girl's mind: find a compartment and make a new friend.

Aria started to walk slowly down the hallway, peeking into compartments as she went. Peering in one, she realized it was most definitely taken, as several Slytherin Fifth-Years were having a heated conversation about hexes inside. Aria jerked her head out quickly, and hurried along, not wanting to draw attention to herself. She peeked in another, and realized that one was taken up, too, this one by a group of First-Years who Aria considered joining for a second, but realized the students inside weren't the only inhabitants of the compartment - their pets were too. Not wanting to be attacked by a cat, Aria moved on. Finally, she came across a compartment near the middle of the train. This one was nearly empty, as there was only one girl sitting inside. Aria entered, knowing this compartment seemed right. "Hello!" Aria smiled. "My name is Aria. Can I join you?"

"Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."
