Jean is a sheltered child, the majority of her childhood was spent living with her mother Morgan who works as an apothecary in Stromness. Her father Angus works as a magical beast tamer, causing him to often be away from home and working in different parts of Europe. Though he still made sure to be home as often as he could, often enough that he was able to witness and in a way be the target of Jean's first accidental use of magic. Jean comes from the MacBluidoch and LaCroix bloodlines, the former being from her home country of Scotland and the other coming from France. Nowadays though the LaCroix's can mostly be found in Quebec, which is also where Jean's own mother comes from.
Both families throughout their respective histories are known for their crazier antics, especially from times all the way back during the 15th century. Though the stories would become more well known and a bit more frequent around the time of the Jacobite Risings and then not terribly long after, the Salem Witch Trials. It seems as if each member of the MacBluidoch and LaCroix families had some crazy little quirk to them, with the only two exceptions so far being Jean and her father. Compared to her grandfather and grandmother, Angus doesn't have a whole lot in common aside from the large build he shares with his own father.
Before her mother Morgan got into a relationship with her father she had her own instances of "inherited craziness", with some stories lingering around of her threatening would-be robbers with enchanted Muggle-firearms to scare them out of her apothecary. Though by this point they could be easily written off as rumors. Whatever the case may be, the birth of Jean seemed to have calm the woman down significantly.
Her parents did have friends with their own children who were around Jean's general age range, though the girl still struggled to make friends due to the bossy and perhaps too animated person underneath her shy and timid exterior. When being social proved to require too much effort, the young girl resigned to spending most if not all of her time with her parents. Picking up on little French language from her mother and a bit of Scottish from her father, though she was primarily taught and often only speaks English.
During her short time at Hogwarts she has kept almost entirely to herself, only talking to others when it was absolutely needed. Due to her past experiences with other kids, she had decided that keeping her head down and staying quiet was the best way to survive the school year. Focusing intently on academic pursuits and only really speaking to professors, other staff, and sometimes older students.
