It was a drab January day but at least it wasn't as freezing cold as before so Arienna could go outside comfortably. It happened to be a day where she was looking for some time to think and she best thought while moving so the logical decision was for her to go out to the courtyard.

The courtyard was rather crowded with students of all ages swarming to get some outside time. There were snowmen being built in one corner, a snowball fight going on off to one side, and some people reading on the other. She examined these people, wondering whether to join in on something but she passed on by.

As she was walking along, she stumbled and fell onto her hands and knees, "Ah, crap," she muttered to herself, checking to make sure that she wasn't injured. She looked down to see the cause of her stumbling and jumped back slightly in surprise. Lying in the snow was a perfectly intact diary. Whose it was, she did not know but she still picked it up, tempted to see what knowledge could be lying inside. She took a whiff of the book, it had clearly been in the snow for a while since it didn't carry the smell that other books normally did.

Sitting down in the snow, she flipped through the pages, not reading them because she felt guilty about the snooping. The person in here could catch me at any second if they are still at Hogwarts. There was only one solution to this issue that she could think of at the moment. She got up and tapped the nearest person on the shoulder, "Excuse me, is this yours?" She asked, sort of hoping it would be so that it could be returned to its rightful owner but also hoping it wouldn't be so that she could take a peek inside.

Since his talk with Jack on the Astronomy Tower, Ruka hadn‘t really gotten a lot of time to himself; the Slytherin boy had stuck to him like glue whenever he possibly could, mothering him at meal times and accompanying him on his way to classes.

Today, however, Jack had classes where Ruka didn‘t, so the Gryffindor had decided to use his time to go down to the courtyard, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them clutched to his chest.
For a change, his feet were actually clad in uncomfortably small and broken shoes to make sure nobody could scold him on freezing his feet on the cold ground again, and he was wrapped in his winter cloak to fight any cold that might still arise throughout the day. His wand was stuck in the pocket of a pair of old jeans he had gotten from a second hand store before leaving for Hogwarts, and his fingers were covered by the thin fabric of a pair of gloves in Gryffindor colours.

Spending time with his new Slytherin acquaintance had clearly made him take better care of himself, even if it made him feel a little restricted in some ways.

Once in the courtyard, Ruka stood to look for a nice spot to maybe settle down and read for a little while, but just before he thought he hd found one, someone tapped him on the shoulder, making him turn around to face a blond girl with freckles scattering her pale skin.
She must have been around his age, standing only slightly taller than he himself did, and her light eyes seemed to be frantically looking for someone.

It took a moment for her voice to register to Ruka, and once it did his eyes fell on the book in her hands. A diary, he thought upon closer examination, and he reached out for a second to touch the leather binding of it before shaking his head. „No, sorry,“ he told the girl with a slight shrug, pulling his hand back again to not seem like he wanted to grab the book from her hands. „I‘ve never seen that before. Where did you find it?“ He looked around the courtyard for a moment, trying to find someone who seemed like they might have lost something.

Nobody seemed to really pay attention to anything but the snowball fights they were involved in or the books they were reading.

Ruka turned his attention back to the girl, offering her an encouraging smile. „Have you checked if there‘s a name inside?“ he asked, suggesting the first thing that sprung to his mind. „Maybe you can find the owner that way.“

Arienna paid attention as the boy spoke. If it wasn't his it could still be one of the many other students on the grounds'. She just couldn't resist taking a look inside any longer. "I found it in the snow over there," she replied, pointing to a spot in the grass not too far away, "It was just sitting there so I picked it up to see what it was." She purposely left out the part where she had tripped from the equation. Who manages to trip over a small book? Well, it wasn't that small but still, too small for a normal person to trip over. Whether Arienna was a normal person was questionable but still, it embarrassed the young girl to have been that clumsy.

The boy's suggestion made sense to her. The only reason that she didn't try that earlier was that she did not want to be a snoop but she had already given in to her curiosity so she may as well just give in a bit more. She flipped open the diary and looked at the front page, "No name present," she muttered, flipping to the next one.

She went through the entire diary in that way but there was still no name to be seen anywhere in any of the text whatsoever. There were names in the text of the pages, some that sparked faint memories but she couldn't place where they were from. Probably just some older student's journal, it looks like it has been sitting there for quite a while. "Well, no name to be found but there were some names in the text. Do you know anyone with the names Elias or Amy who go here?" She knew that this boy was a 2nd year so maybe he knew some of the older students better.

Ruka looked over to the spot the girl had pointed at, brows furrowing in thought.
The Courtyard was full of people all the time so he thought it unlikely that the book had actually been in that very spot for very long, no matter how old it looked. Maybe someone had found it elsewhere and then dropped it again while walking without noticing.

Ruka hummed thoughtfully, looking from the diary to the girl in front of him and back at the diary again.
If it had been him, he would have most likely handed the book to the caretaker or a teacher to keep it until someone came looking for it, but this girl seemed really determined to find its owner, and Ruka didn‘t actually have anything better to do anyway.

He watched curiously as the girl flicked through the pages but didn‘t seem to find anything particularly helpful. Her question about the names in the diary made him gnaw on his bottom lip thoughtfully.
I think I may have heard of an Amy,“ he said, thinking of all the names he‘d heard throughout his classes and whether they matched the ones the girl had mentioned. „But I don‘t think I‘ve ever heard of an Elias.“

Granted, Ruka wasn‘t the most social butterfly around, so maybe he just had never met those Amy and Elias from the diary before. „The book looks pretty old though, did you find any dates in there at all?“ he asked curiously. „Maybe if you know some dates you have an easier time figuring out which year the person it belongs to could be in. Maybe it even belongs to one of the teachers!“
