Sorry For My Absence
It was time.
Ruka had done a great job avoiding everyone he knew ever since the start of term. He‘d been hiding out in the rehearsal room, feeding the squid during lunch and sulking in his bed while everyone else was out building snowmen and having fun.
After the bitter taste of complete loneliness for a few months, he finally decided that it was time to reconnect with the rest of the world.
Gathering all his energy to leave the rehearsal room and face people, he finally found himself out on the Quidditch training pitch, an old school broom from the shed in hands, staring up at the grey sky. It looked like it might rain soon so there weren‘t a lot of people around.
Good.
Good, he didn‘t feel like too much social interaction for one day anyway.
With a sigh he mounted his broom and pushed himself up into the air, revelling in the feeling of wind on his skin and ruffling his copper hair.
He did some figure eights mid air, getting some feeling for being back on a broom again, his face brightening a bit as the adrenaline coursed through his veins.
He did miss this.
Smiling to himself he landed back on the ground again, settling in a spot on the sidelines where he decided to just wait for now.
What exactly he didn‘t really know, but after months pf closing himself off from the world, he figured this was as good a place to wait as any.

OOC: Sorry for my late response, life happenedDonny was mildly happy. With the day not being too, freeze your ears off cold- he was finally able to enjoy a day in the sun, here on the Quidditch pitch. Quidditch. He loved it so, and with Hufflepuff in the lead, he couldn't feel any better. Even if he was on- second string. But-the bright was still that he'd made it. As he walked onto the field with ever much hated school broom, he noticed a new boy? I couldn't be, because he attended the ceremony and this face he'd-wait! He hopped onto his broom a few closer to the boy.
He then saw the copper hair, and familiar face the brought him home. Ruka. His best friend. He was finally here, Donny hadn't seen around-anywhere? But in shock, he had to get more answers.
"RUKA! How?" he said, scratching his bewildered. But his mind was going to fast. He threw out his arms and gave him a brotherly hug. He'd missed hi best friend, and this couldn't get any better. "Where-where have you been mate? I-I don't know what to say it's been so long!" he said, his voice getting higher with excitement.
It was then when he remembered all the journey's they embarked on together. The squid, the ball, and it was here too that they'd met. On the Quidditch pitch. He had so much to tell him, but he was still so confused. How could he have not said anything, or answered any of his owls over summer and school?

As he stared blankly up at the sky, Ruka drifted off into his thoughts far enough that he barely noticed the Hufflepuff‘s arrival. The voice that ripped him back into reality was familiar, and the face accompanying in caused a little smile to spread on the Gryffindor‘s face.
„Donny,“ he said, mild enthusiasm in his voice. It wasn‘t that he was unhappy to see his closest friend, but having stayed by himself for so long, he felt... out of touch with people.
He let himself be pulled into a hug anyway, returning it with a gentle squeeze before letting Donny go again, taking a small step back. „I know, I‘m sorry, I... I just needed some time alone.“ He shrugged his shoulders lightly and averted his eyes, fixing them on Donny‘s school broom instead.
He should have known the Hufflepuff was going to be here; Quidditch was one of the main things they had started to bond over, and this was exactly the place they had first met. „I swear, it was nothing personal, just...“ He sighed, not very eager to get into the topic of why he had been so evasive throughout the past few months. „It was a bit of a difficult summer,“ he finished lamely before smiling at the other boy in order to lift the mood again. „But what about you?“ he asked with an excitement in his voice that wasn‘t completely sincere but not fake either. „How was your summer? Went to see that Quidditch match you were talking about last year?“

Donny smiled at the Gryffindor. He couldn't believe his eyes. All this time...he had so many things to tell him. So many adventures and stories were between them, and he was afraid that there were no ahead of them. Ruka didn't seem himself really. He was, depressed, and somber. Almost like he wasn't looking forward to seeing Donny.
"A-are you okay, Ruka?" he asked, a slow frown coming upon his face. For reason he seemed distant, and quiet. Quite contrary to the Ruka he knew, that he knows. Then Ruka seemed to change the subject. He asked about the match they'd fantasized about last year. "No, my mum had other plans. She's been working, so I spent time with my Grandfather..." he replied. He didn't really like his grandfather. He was always very judgmental, and pessimistic. Unlike his gran. She was no longer here, but she was still with him, somehow. "But-" Donny smiled, and bit his lip. "I did it Ruka! I made the Quidditch team!" he said, pulling out his quidditch robes from his bags. "Isn't it what we've always dreamed about! Actually making the team!" he said, going back in his head. But Donny still saw something wrong. Something wrong about Ruka. His smile drifted again. "Did something happen, Ruka?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

Ruka offered Donny a little nod and a smile when he was asked if he was okay. He didn‘t want to keep anything from the other boy, but at the same time he wasn‘t sure if he wanted to have this particular conversation right now.
Instead, he smiled, a glint of genuine happiness for his friend on his face. „That‘s awesome, Donny, congrats!“ he said, a little speck of pride in his voice. He knew how much it had meant to Donny to be part of the Quidditch team, and the fact that he‘d actually managed to make one of his dreams come true made something like happiness bubble up in his chest.
Of course, Donny didn‘t sound too impressed by the summer he had had, but Ruka figured it was probably a small price to pay for the victory of making the Quidditch team so soon after.
As much as Ruka had wanted to make the distraction last, it wasn‘t long before Donny questioned again whether there was something wrong with Ruka; whether something had happened.
A part of him wanted to just deny things, to act like things were fine and he was just tired, but another part of him could tell that Donny was genuinely worried, and he didn‘t want to leave his friend stumbling in the dark.
„My dad died last summer,“ he said quickly, like he was ripping off a band-aid, eyes focusing on a spot above Donny‘s left shoulder to avoid direct eye contact. „But I don‘t... I don‘t really feel like talking about it much if that‘s okay?“ He sighed, shaking his head a little at himself. „I‘m just going to need a while for things to go back to normal again.“

Donny had no words. He heart fell as he absorbed the news. He was-shocked to say the least. He didn't know how to take this. Ruka's father just-died? There was obviously a reason, but Donny knew it wasn't in his time to ask. They did have something in common. Both of their fathers were gone, but Ruka's was-dead. Donny couldn't imagine what it must be like, to actually know pain for his father. He'd never really met his in his lifetime, and it was actually a good thing. If he'd already met him, the remorse would be as great as Ruka's for his father. But no...all Donny knows is that his father was a criminal. Unlike Ruka's. He sounded like a great man.
Donny swallowed and looked at Ruka's blank expression. One that he knew was one of sadness. "Ruka...I have no words I-" he began, his eyes watering up with empathy. He still knew his friend would want some moral support. "I'm so sorry Ruka. That's terrible." he said, lacking choice of words. He did wish he had something better to say, but nothing came to mind. He just hoped he could support Ruka. Besides, he was like the brother Donny never had in a way. "If you need anything at all-I'll be here mate." he said, patting Ruka's shoulder softly. "I'm here for you. Your dad was a wonderful man. That's probably where you get it from mate." Donny said with a sincere smile. But he knew Ruka probably wouldn't want to hear much about it anymore, Donny could agree. What would cheer him up?
"You know..." Donny began, thinking with a smirk on his face. He looked down at his broom. "We could fly around-for old times sake?" he said, trying to do anything to cheer his best mate up...

Ruka could anticipate what Donny was going to say before he even started muttering wayward words of condolences. This was exactly what he had shied away from for such a long time; That look in other people‘s faces that just made him feel worse, the sorries that didn‘t do anything but make him feel like he needed to respond with a forced It‘s alright when it was anything but.
Ruka took a deep breath and put a little smile on his face. A month ago he would have probably started crying and screaming on the spot, would have probably let his anger out on his friend just because he was here.
Now, however, he had prepared for these situations, and his eyes remained dry, his hands steady. Donny just wanted to be nice and helpful, and Ruka couldn‘t possibly blame him for that.
„Thanks, Donny,“ he said lightly, nodding along to the Hufflepuff‘s words with a faraway look in his eyes.
His dad really had been a great person, and he wished he could have introduced him to Donny at some point.
Well, no use mourning the past.
When Donny suggested flying around a bit, Ruka‘s eyes lit up, a little bit of life flowing back into his system. „Yeah,“ he said eagerly, taking his school broom in hand and mounting it. „Yeah, come on, you can show me some Quidditch moves you learned now you‘re on the team!“

Donny smiled brightly at Ruka's change in attitude, it now being the positive, happy Ruka he once new. He nodded, and pulled out his robes, throwing them over himself, and looking around for a broomstick. Even as a quidditch player, he didn't quite have his own broomstick yet, as odd as it was. But he just could afford one yet...or at least a good one. He spotted one right at the end of the pitch, under a bleacher. "Just a sec-" he told Ruka, as he skipped over to the broom, reaching down and retrieving it to Ruka. The he realized, Ruka didn't have one either. "Oh, well do you know where to get one?" he asked scanning the field for another.
He knew Ruka's family, or just Ruka now...was not necessarily accommodated with these things. Or anything really. So it was important that Donny helped out his best mate. "Oh I see one there!" he said, pointing to a tree in the distance, where the distinct figure came to eye. He put his leg over his broom, and shot up like he did best, zooming over to the sight. He reached down, and with one hand he scooped it up, trying carefully to stay balanced with one hand on the broom. "Catch!" he said, tossing it in Ruka's arms...
