Santario had finally braved coming back to her favorite spot. She wasn’t about to let someone else spoil the places that she loved. The best part of this specific moment in the evening was that it was snowing gently, and the world was blanketed by the calm that only the snow could bring. It wasn’t quite dark yet just on the precipice of the twilight hour as she sat perched on a ledge watching the snowfall. Her breaths were coming with ease in a soft fog indicating just how cold it was outside tonight. She was dressed for it though with a warm hooded dress, black pants, her usual converse, and topped with her winter coat and gloves. Both of her hoods were up to keep her face guarded against the cold, leaving her raven tresses coming over to rest on her shoulders.

It was times like this where she could typically be found with her camera in hand, but tonight she was taking the time just for her to enjoy it. There was no wind to cut the chill through her clothes, which made it even more perfect After she came back from winter break, she had found herself craving more solitude, not allowing herself to rely on her two closest friends for the support she knew they wanted to give her. She had been basically a ghost avoiding people whenever possible, not yet ready to open up to those who cared about her about what happened. She knew it was only going to be a matter of time before they ganged up on her, especially after the owls she sent them, but for now, she would revel in her solitude.

Seth smiled gently as he walked across the Courtyard. He liked this place and snow too, but he forgot to put on a thick sweater so he froze, although he wore his winter cloak.

As he realized that it was sonwing gently, Seth stopped walking and liftet his head, whereby the hood of his winter cloak slid back. Seth did not care, rather he enjoyed it, how the snowflakes fell into his hair and on his skin. He liked the feeling of the melting snowflakes on his skin and smiled more and more wider. It probaby looked funny how Seth was standing in the middle of the Courtyard, his eyes closed and smiling. As Seth realized that, he opened his eyes immediately and looked around, just to be sure no one saw him. But Seth realized that he was not alone and that the girl probably saw him, he blushed and dilated his eyes. Even strangers could tell that this situation was more than just embrassing to him.

Desperated, Seth thought about a solution to save this situation. The only idea he got was starting a conversation but he did not dare to introduce himself. So Seth just raised his hands with a shy smile and hoped that the girl would understand.

Movement grabbed her attention from the corner of her eye, and although she was disappointed, she knew that she would not have been able to remain alone for long. It was beautiful out, and this had become a popular spot. Then again, whenever she was taking alone time, she never really did get to enjoy it for long, someone was always popping up. Her black winter cloak would have been well speckled by sow as she watched the boy out of the corner of her eyes. He looked like he was enjoying the snow the way she used to before enjoyment had left her entirely. It was hard to find enjoyment in things when you lost the people closest to you.

The boy, however, just stood there, letting the snow melt on his skin. She turned her head so that she could carefully observe him. That was when he started to look around, perhaps her looking at him had caused him to feel uneasy. Her sharp sapphire eyes met his as he offered her a smile and a wave. She was taught that when someone greets you, you greet them back whether you wanted to or not, and by now, it was an automatic response for her. A small smile replaced the once stoic mask on her porcelain fine features. Her hand sheathed in a fingerless glove raised slightly enough for him to see as she returned his quiet greeting. However, she didn’t want to be rude, and it was disrespectful not to attempt a conversation with someone who greeted you. “Good evening.” Her silvery voice escaped from her lips in a little puff of hot air.

First, Seth did not know if he should go to the girl. He was afraid that he was disturbing her. So Seth hesitated shortly, before he decided to go to the girl. She has sapphire eyes, Seth realized, I wish I had such amazing eyes, too. He tried to study the girl while he walked towards her. He saw the school uniform of Slytherin and nearly sighted relieved. Of course he did like the other students too, but he was just happy to met another student of his house. He did not know many students of his own house.

"Good evening", Seth said smiling as he arrived, "I'm not surprised that I'm not alone here. It's one of the prettiest places in Hogwarts I think." Certainly, Seth tried to start a conversation. Actually, it was not the baddest attempt he had ever made and not the oddest attempt by far. Seth was almost proud of himself and kept smiling, a real smile in fact. In the last few days, Seth often felt bad because he did not knew many things about developing friendships or something like that. But now he had finally the feeling that he had done something right.

She wasn’t surprised when the boy walked over to her, and as he did, she would move her feet from their perch and sit up straight from her formerly leaned back position. “I am inclined to agree. This place is beautiful, serene, and overall just peaceful, especially right now. My name is Santario Martin, by the way.” She held out her hand in greeting. Her gloves were cut right in between the top and middle knuckles, exposing only the tips of her fingers to the cold. She noted the Slytherin crest emblazoned on his winter cloak and once again offered a small smile. “I see you are also a Slytherin. Are you enjoying your time here so far?” One thing that she had learned to do better while being at Hogwarts was speaking to her peers.

The time spent editing and writing articles for the Hogwarts Headliner, and working with that team, in general, had helped her learn how to communicate with people her own age. Before school, she had only ever conversed with adults and she found that that had severely ill repaired her for her time at school. She was one of those pureblood heirs that had been groomed by her grandmother to take over when she inevitably passed away.

Seth clasped Santario's Hand and smiled friendly. Santario? What an interesting name. I never heard of that name., Seth thought but still smiled. "Nice to meet you, Santario", Seth said, "My name is Seth Reed."

As Santario asked him, if he was enjoying his time so far, Seth hesitated. Of course he had fun, but still it this new life was unfamiliar. "I... I enjoy it", he answered, "although all of this is really unfamiliar for me. There are so many new things and..." Seth sighted and shaked his head. "Sorry, I'm speaking too much again. That happens often in the last time." He said apologizing and looked shortly to the side. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment, then he looked again to Santario. Everybody could tell that Seth was nervous, even Seth knew that. But anyway, Seth was proud of himself because he carried on a conversation.

"What about you? Are you enjoying your time here in Hogwarts?", he asked and put his freezing hands back into his pockets. Inwardly, Seth cussed himself because he did not put on thicker clothes. But he did not have experience in such things. At home, Seth had never to worry about such things because the staff would choose what Seth put on.

She would smile in return when he introduced himself. “A pleasure to meet you as well, Seth.” The pauses in his speech were noticed quickly, and she wondered what had the boy so nervous. It was already January, and she thought that nerves would have worn off by now, somehow. “You don’t have to apologize for speaking too much. We are not in some kind of boring formal situation with our guardians watching over us, making sure that we politely speak only 5 words at a time to one another.” There was his clue to understanding that she had been groomed in a similar pureblood fashion.

“In the beginning, I was sad coming here, leaving my home behind, but now it’s like this is my second home.” In fact, after her parents' murder over winter break, she’d do just about anything to escape her grandmother’s clutches. “I was isolated a lot before coming here, so I understand how everything seems new. I’m just very fast at adjusting. If you have any questions about things I’m sure I could assist you” Although she spoke earlier about not having to be formal it would feel like there was always a formal way in how she spoke. Almost as if she were making sure to keep everyone around her at a decent arm’s length away.

Seth laughted a little bit as Santario said that he don't have to apologize for speaking more than five words and that they don't have guardians watching over them. Then Seth smiled and listened what the girl said. He was curious, Seht noticed, what the girl would answer. As she said that she she was sad coming here, he impacted his lips and stroked his arm with his right hand.

Then Santario said that she was isolated before she came to Hogwarts, he immediately raised his eyebrows. Seth always thought that his parents were the only one that educated him this way. Seth felt compassion but he was afraid to show it. He did not like it when people looked at him with compassion or something like that. So he just smiled very slightly - it probably was hard to recognize it as a smile. "I understand", Seth said tentatively, "and thank you, that's really nice of you."

Of course Seth felt that Santario kind of tried to keep him away in some way. So Seth cough slightly and tried to speak careful. "Is everything alright? It seems like... Like..." Like something is wrong, he finished his sentence in though. But I can not tell what exactly is wrong. Then Seth realized that his question was probably too much for this first conversation.
"I... I probably should not have asked this, I'm sorry."

Bold… Shy and bold at the same time. She thought as she appraised him while he spoke. Of course, the boy was right something was wrong… off. This would definitely be something that he could pick up on if he knew her well. Though this boy didn’t know her at all for all, he knew she was just some random strange girl hanging out in the snowy courtyard in the twilight hours. Her sharp sapphire eyes flitted over him before finally resting back on his face. “No need to be sorry. I just used to be homesick, and I learned not to be. You’ll get used to this place eventually. I know a boy who still isn’t used to it here, and probably won't be for a good long while if he ever does.” A small smile came to her lips as she thought of her friend Jake. The little Hufflepuff boy was probably afraid of his own shadow.

“I’m just not homesick anymore.” The lie was easy because she didn’t have a home anymore as far as she was concerned. Her French grandmother was an insufferable and horrible woman. It was a place that she would never call her home. She would have no real home now that her parents were gone because if you didn’t put down roots if you didn’t maintain friends, and if you stopped yourself from caring, it couldn’t be ripped from you at a moment notice. Friendship and caring were now a weakness, and she refused to be weak. “Have you yet gotten used to it here?

Seth surveyed Santario as she smiled and thought that she should smile more often. She looked more friendly when she smiled.
"I hope I will get used to this place and all the new things", Seth answered. Actually, Seth thought that he would never get used to this place. It was just too different, just too new and too unfamiliar. But his "real" home was not better. Everytime he thought about his home in Malin Head and his rich family, he knew that he did not thought of a home where he felt safe and comfortable. Seth wished he would have a place like that and a normal family. But some wishes were not meant to get real.

"You can be glad that you are not homesick anymore", Seth said, although he did not believe her. Then he hesiteted before he answered her. "I don't know if I am used to it here. There are still many things that I have not experienced and... uhm..." Seth did not dared himself to explain more. He was afraid of boring Santario with his long explanations. His mother and his father were bored, everytime he talked more than five words. It was hard to forget his habit of speaking as few as possible.
