Sola felt the grass crunch under her feet as she walked out into she courtyard with a self-inking quill in one hand, parchment in another, and a copy of The Daily Prophet tucked under one arm. She walked, distracted, and occasionally stumbled as she looked for a place to sit down.
After she found a place to sit she spent a good minute staring at the parchment, blank save for the words "Dear dad" written at the top. She frowned, folding up the paper and tucking it away before taking out her copy of the Prophet. Nothing new, really. Lorcan d'Eath was putting out a new album... oh, and the regular news on Azkaban.
Ever since the war ended, there had been talk of partially de-Dementoring Azkaban. They were cruel, unnecessary, and dangerous, as the Ministry had found out when the Dementors had sided against them. Sola didn't really have any strong opinions on the subject. They hadn't tried this since Eldritch Diggory, and he hadn't been successful either.
She sighed, sitting back. There were several people in the courtyard, like always. Some people reading, some tending to plants, and a group of boys over in the corner trying to throw Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans into each others mouths. She frowned, pulling out the paper again. How would she word this?

The girl found herself in the courtyard, quite the nice day perhaps. The winds shook the trees in a dancing movement, the streaks of feathery colors flew overhead, the only down-side was the fact that it was a bit chilly. However, the redhead was searching, begging for a day like this, sweater weather didn't bother her as much as it might have a day or two ago.
A few moments later, she took out her book, previously tucked under her arm for safe-keeping. The noise in the courtyard was drowned out by unshushable winds that kept up their constant chatter, she didn't know what they were speaking of yet, who was she kidding though, she'd never learn the language of these natural things. Instead she just curled up on a bench book resting in her lap, there was a girl she had passed by before who was mumbling almost incoherent nonsense. Saoirse was too stressed to focus on anything else though, it was just the girl's similar expression that caught the Hufflepuff's eye.
She began flipping through the yellow pages, that looked as though they should be molded off yet they weren't and she was here using magic herself, it seemed so surreal, so unlikely that she would be here in this position. Looking up she observed the courtyard once again, it was beautiful, things like this made her glad she was in this position.

What would she say? Dear dad, I got sorted into Slytherin-- no, no, she couldn't be that blunt. She had to be smooth about it, but she was also freaking out inside. She wasn't a Slytherin! She couldn't be. Hmm, well, maybe she shouldn't have been that upset about it. After all, her aunt was a Slytherin, and she was pretty nice. Sola's mum and her got on great. Sola was even named after her (middle name, of course).
But then there was the other side of her family she was worried about. Her aunt formed a singular genetic barrier between Sola's mum and Sola's uncle, whom Sola was not like in any way. And she kept telling herself that, but she just kept getting reminded of him. First in the Trophy room with that one Ravenclaw girl, and now seeing him frequently in the paper. Never directly. Always in the background, but she saw him quite a bit, despite the fact she never wanted to see him again.
A girl passed by Sola, snapping her out of her deep, frustrated thoughts. She had a book tucked under her arm. Hmm, maybe that's what she needed: a book. That could take her mind off things.

The little redhead continued on with her merry way, scrolling through the pages of her book, it was uncanny to her at this point, one of those thing that just gave her comfort in the sound. Her mind kept drifting to that girl though, she had seen stressed students before but that girl...it was obviously than just schoolwork, or who knows maybe she was a second or third year who really was just stressing out over endless amounts of schoolwork professors had given them.
She shook her head, attempting to focus more on the words that moments before flew out of the golden pages of her crimson book. There was no need to focus on others except close friends at this point in time, she needed to focus on herself, but she couldn't help but wonder what that poor girl was doing in that hurried motion trying to get wherever she was trying to go, do whatever she was trying to do.
Saoirse's mind began to swirl off into wherever she went when she refused to dwell on the humanity around her. Instead let the inky letters surround her, placing themselves in even the far corners of her mind, it was dangerous, yes but she didn't mind at this point.

Sola huffed, her cheeks puffing out as she ran a hand through her hair. She had begun by listing a bunch of things she should include: her teachers, her new dorm, her friends... except she didn't really have any yet. She felt so isolated where she was. Everyone in her new House tried to make her feel welcome, but she couldn't get close to them. She was worried she might end up like them... like him.
Sure, not all Slytherins were bad. The ones she'd met were actually quite nice. But it was something she couldn't shirk off. And she was worried to befriend other Houses because, how would they look at her as a Slytherin?
She looked down at the paper and realized she'd crumpled it up in her fists. She pulled it open again and saw the ink had been smudged, and she just snapped. Sola angrily crumpled the paper into a ball and tossed it blindly away from herself, anger finally taking hold.

Just as the girl's mind began to become that of a wanderer's a small piece of parchment paper landed by her shoe knocking her out of her mindset. She placed her book down beside her and picked up the piece of paper, it was horibly crumpled up and a few tears here and there. It was hard to make out what was wrote on it, as it looked like someone had been crying above it and smudged the ink. However she could make out 'Dear Father', what looked to be Slytherin and dorm, that was all, another word was crossed out but she had no interest in trying to decipher what else the student had written down.
Frantically she began searching, for the owner and some place she could dispose of the paper. Suddenly she remembered the girl from earlier, frustrated and upset, she had parchment and a quill with her maybe this was her letter. Was the girl out of words, was that it? Saoirse couldn't really tell what was coursing through her mind when she had passed by her earlier. The girl simply folded the paper and set down, before picking up her book once again, it made a good bookmark after all.
Just wanted to say this will probably be my last post in this thread tonight, not sure though.

Okay. I probably would've replied sooner, but I kinda wanted to make the note...
Sola just sat there for a moment. She hadn't realized she'd been crying until she felt the cold feeling of the wind on her face. She blinked, reaching up to wipe away the tears with her sleeve. Why was she getting so emotional?
Maybe because she'd never really felt like she belonged. She had been sent to Muggle school as a kid, but when her "Underage Wandless Magic" incidents began, her mum and dad pulled her out and began homeschooling her. She'd been with only them her entire childhood, except those times she visited her Aunt with her mum, or the other family friends they had. She'd even once gotten to visit the Ministry of Magic on Take Your Kid to Work Day, which had been neat.
Now she missed all of that terribly. Her aunt's children would be around her age, if a few years older, but they went to Beauxbatons, so Sola didn't even have them.
She sighed, unclenching her fists and putting away her quill and her Prophet. Then she remembered the paper. Maybe she should go retrieve it before someone else found it. She wouldn't want anyone to see her shoddy handwriting.
After a minute or two, she saw a folded piece of paper on the bench next to a Hufflepuff girl. The paper had been crumpled. Maybe that was it... so, she mustered up her courage and approached.
"Um... hello," she said quietly, pointing at the paper. "I... I think that m-might be mine..."

All of a sudden a figure stood before her, it was that girl, that same girl from before. With her bobbed hair and dark eyes. Her eyes were watered, the cold winds would be a contend if it weren't for the few little streaks of tears left on her face. "Oh! I'm sorry!" She picked up the paper and popped up to face the girl, about the same height, she didn't feel awkward, being too small or too tall next to..an almost unwanted stranger. The redhead held the paper towards the new arrival, "are you...alright?" Saoirse piped up, putting on her best people-person smile.
The girl did not look as though she was having a fun time, looking lost for a lot. The Hufflepuff felt horrible for her, it was such a nice day too, however she lightly shook her head, this girl's problems were not her own, unless they concerned the school. She attempted to look as warm and friendly as she could, in hopes of keeping the mood of the conversation lightened, ignoring the fact that both girls weren't in the best of moods. Taking a deep breath she awaited the girl's response, as though she had other things to do, she didn't, this is all she did for free-time these past few weeks.

Sola pursed her lips, fidgeting with the hem of her grey sweater. She worried for a moment it wasn't her paper and the girl would be angry, but she seemed quite kind. She appologized and picked up the paper before standing up, rather quickly. Sola hadn't been expecting that, so she jumped a bit in surprise.
The girl held out the paper and Sola accepted it quickly, trying to put aside her nerves. Of course, her nerved came right back when the girl asked if she was alright. Sola realized her face was still shiny from the tears and her eyes were slightly puffy. She instinctively reached up ti wipe them, even though she had earlier.
"I... no," she replied. "N-not really, but it's fine." She didn't want to bother anyone else with her problems.

Saoirse's heart sank, she felt horrible for this girl considering how bad she looked, her eyes were drowsy and horribly puffy. The girl however just shut down the redhead's help, "o-o-oh okay..." The Hufflepuff nodded, attempting to ignore the sniffles that came from whoever this newcomer was, she hadn't seen her around school before and it wasn't the appropriate time to ask if she was a transfer student or not. The stranger seemed more upset than before, did something happen to a family member, or was she talking about being sorted into Slytherin, the letter was hard to read and only gave her a bit of context to work with.
Even then she didn't want assume, they was a whole bunch of stuff this girl could be going through and she had no right to stick her nose in it. Sighing she picked up her book and tucked herself up,"enjoy your day." She gave a wimpy grin towards the girl before turning back to her book. The Hufflepuff hoped the girl wouldn't take that to offense and would just carry on her day, happier if some miracle came along, nobody deserved to be that sad right after a break. She looked up at the girl again though, wondering how she could help.
