Amy entered the small hall and gave an uncertain look around. Everybody older then her was entering and exiting like they knew exactly where each door led, but she did not. This is so confusing she thought inwardly and began to walk towards the opposite side she had entered. Large, beautiful pictures lined the walls and she looked at each and every one with fascination. She'd heard of all these wizards and witches, and she was glad to see they were happy in their place on the wall. The further Amy walked the dimmer it seemed to get, and a small shiver went through her spine at the fear of being engulfed in complete and utter darkness.

I'm not afraid of the darkness. I'm not afraid of the darkness. I'm not- her thoughts were interrupted when a student brushed passed her and she yelped in surprise. The student mumbled a quick apology before continuing off in the direction they were going, and she went back to chanting. The young girl was not afraid of the darkness. No. She was afraid of the things that were in the darkness, waiting to snatch at someone the first chance they get. She willed her legs to walk faster and eventually she came to a large fireplace.

It was absolutely and utterly beautiful. The fireplace was large and made of stone, but it was bigger then any one she'd ever seen before. The walls were made of a red brick, and the fire roared and cackled, snapping and sending sparks into the space. The logs burning inside of the fireplace was held by a cast iron rack, and Amy wondered how one could have afforded something so beautiful. To the right of the fireplace was a picture of someone she knew of very well. Albus Dumbledore, and she would've stepped closer to admire it had someone not been sitting below it.

A fellow Slytherin was reading a book, and Amy instantly sighed in relief , hoping the girl would have some information for Amy that could help her figure out where she was going. "Um, Hello." Amy called out tentatively. "Could you possibly give me directions to the Astronomy classroom? "

Ruby lounged near the fire. She exuded a certain type of confidence, like she wouldn't back down for anyone and had a right to carry herself with this dignity and poise. Her movements were precise and elegant, and every inch of her hinted at her pure-blood upbringing. Her appearance was tidy, careful, and clean, and there was a cold, analytical intelligence in her ice-blue eyes.

A book was perched on her lap, and she had been working her way steadily through it until she was interrupted. Reserving judgement for a moment, her gaze travelled steadily upwards to meet the eyes of the newcomer. It was a Slytherin, and she was asking for directions. She looked like she was nervous to ask, and she was definitely new. “You're on the ground floor right now and need to get to the Astronomy Tower,” she began, and then continued giving detailed yet concise instructions. She offered, “If you have some paper, I could write the directions down or draw a quick map for you.”

This help was not given purely out of kindness or as a result of some preconceived notion of loyalty, but instead because she simply wanted the girl to leave her alone. She was not in the mood for conversation, and she figured that fulfilling her housemate's request would get rid of her faster than if she resisted. Besides, Ruby was a prefect. Helping people was her job, wasn't it? That didn't mean that her kindness had to extend to after the deed was done, and she didn't intend for it to. Give her what she wanted, and then go back to reading. How hard was that?
