This was it! This was it! This was it! A perpetual grin of pure joy was etched on Katrina's face. Nobody would ever deny the fact that this was the happiest day of Katrina's life. Her entire life Katrina had begged for a pet. Her parents had always declined because they were too messy. With them gone, she now had no one to say she couldn't (it was morbid but true). She was almost squealing with excitement. her bag of gold coins lay heavy in her hand. Katrina felt her heart racing.

How could she ever choose?! First: cat or owl. She had limited her pet choices to that. Katrina was biting her nails in worry.

A kindly lady walked up. She had a kind smile and an odd aroma of sugar cookies. Katrina recognized her from her four previous visits. She was wearing a modest pink rose dress and had her wispy cotton-candy hair in a tight bun. "Hello sweetheart, looking for a pet?"

"Yes, I am!" At this point Katrina's smile was so big it was almost popping out of her face.

"Well, my dear you certainly are excited!" Katrina nodded, "Let's see now cat or owl? I'm guessing by the fact that you keep looking between them."

"Yes!" Anyone could have seen that it was gut-wrenching for her to have to be caught in the balance. Katrina pointed to the two beauties' that were begging to come home with her.

First, the owl. A paper on the cage read, "Eastern Screech Owl". It was big and fluffy with big golden eyes. It gave a small hoot and Katrina almost died on the spot, it was so cute.

But then. She knew. It had to be the kitten. Katrina put her hands against the bars of the cage and he stood up and rubbed himself on the edge. He gave a small content 'murp!' The adorable little fluff of joy stole Katrina's heart on the spot. She kneeled down and almost cried. The lady opened the bars of the cage and the kitten practically jumped into her arms.

He had sweet taffy colored swirls of tangerine and cantaloupe with a touch of pumpkin and peach. His sweet fruit medley made Katrina's heart ache. She had the perfect name for him: 'Boomerang'. Because his cute little furry face made Katrina's heart do boomerangs in her chest. He sniffed her check and gave it a little lick. Katrina melted again.

"Well, it seems our little Red Classic Tabby has a new home," the lady chuckled returning to the register, "Follow me and we will sort everything else out."

Katrina smiled and carried him in her arms. His little fuzzy head rested on her shoulder and he gave small content purrs as she pet him. His silky fur was bright and well groomed. His little frame melted more and more with Katrina's stroking hand.

"I'm quite fond of this little fella," the lady smiled, "What are you going to name him?"

"Boomerang, his name-- is Boomerang" Katrina smiled looking down at his fuzzy face.

"Mewl!"
