A New Opportunity
Lily was nervous. Very nervous. She had never been this nervous before, not when working with the animals at her Mor’s work, or when her far took her to Diagon Alley. The nerves filled her, forcing her to pause as she stood in front of the train station, looking towards where her Mor was helping her Far out of the car. He had broken his leg while doing muggle work with one of his muggle friends, meaning that it would look suspicious if it magically healed overnight. Especially because the hospital had the records.
She watched as he used the crutches to manoeuvre himself towards her, his wife next to him as he smiled at his daughter. She smiled back at him, turning towards where everyone else was heading, a light bounce in her step as she pulled her trunk along. She was disappointed she couldn’t bring any of the cats to Hogwarts, however, in her Mor’s words; ‘The cats bite and scratch anyone other than you, Lily. They barely tolerate us. Taking them to Hogwarts would be a disaster.’
They slowly made their way into the station, dodging the other people who glared at her Far for asking them to move over a bit so he could fit through. They eventually made it to between platform 9 and 10, before Lily bolted into the gateway, excitedly, coming across platform 9 3/4, her eyes widening as she stares at the massive train. She looks back to her parents, the nerves coming back.
“Promise to me you will write every day, Lily.” Her Mor stated, her eyes hard as she pulled her daughter into a hug, burying her nose into Lily’s hair, holding her close.
“Why every day? Why not every second? Every day will be hard.” Lily said, fidgeting, her hands tapping on her leg.
Lily swallowed, ignoring her Mor’s voice as she looked towards the train, eyes widening as she watches students get on the train.
“Mor... Far... I’m scared.” Lily whispered, looking down at the floor as she shuffled her feet. “What if I mess up? What if I end up getting expelled and get bad grades? What if everyone hates me? I don’t know? I don’t know how to act, what to say to any of them! They’re wizards and witches...”
Her Far places his hand on her shoulder, looking at her and pulling her into his arms, cradling her. “I guarantee, Lily, the way you act is perfect. Remember, you come from a long line of Hogwarts’s schooling. And I may not have gone to Hogwarts, but I know how to act around witches and wizards. You are a talented young witch. And when you get home, we can go out and buy you an owl, what do you say?”
“Nope!” Her Mor stated, pushing her husband as she nudges her daughter to the train. “No owls in the house please! Something other than an owl, Lily, please.”
“I know, Mor. I know!” Lily smiled, before taking her trunk and bag and walking towards the train. She pauses to wave at them, before moving into the train, stashing her trunk where the trunks go. She smiled to herself, before walking down the train, ready for the new schooling term to begin.
