Midday

Ah, Christmas time, the most wonderful time of year. Snow is falling, baby it’s cold outside, and let it go, Piérre was all over it. It was his favorite season of all time (save for the Italian wine festivals he used to partake in, but still,) because of the bright colors, blithe spirits and the general feeling of happiness which surrounded those who were willing enough to let the spirit whisk them up and blow them away with the crisp winter sky.

As of now, his arms full of sparkling silver tinsel, Piérre was running back and forth, up and down the corridors, avoiding students and fellow decorators, as he went laughing from side to side, throwing tinsel between suits of armor and over portraits as if it were confetti. His green eyes were glowing with warmth despite his pale and pinking cheeks. He was rather cold, so cold he could probably loosen his jaw and have his teeth start chattering, and that was probably why he was running like a chicken with its head cut off. The castle, despite being magical and housing magic in all respects, was still very open to the elements, and very, very drafty, and the poor Mediterranean boy with the sparse tan and usually bronzed cheeks was feeling more like an icicle than a kabob.

”I SAW THREE SHIPS COME SAILING IN,
ON CHRISTMAS DAY, ON CHRISTMAS DAY!
I SAW THREE SHIPS COME SAILING IN,
ON CHRISTMAS DAY IN THE MORNING!”

The light, high voice of a contra-tenor in falsetto floated through the air, and skipping, Piérre jumped as high as he could as he neared a suit of armor, looping a gracious amount of tinsel around its neck like a stole before laughing gaily and moving on, throwing up an extraneous amount of glitter, which shimmered silver and gold in the frosty air. Snowmen, snowflakes, icicles, and frost, glittering white on the earth outside, even the Whomping Willow looked alright.

Still, he couldn’t believe how quickly the year was passing. It was almost a new year, and he would soon be heading back to London to reunite with Mathilda and Romeo for Christmas. He already had ideas in mind for both of them, and he hoped that maybe he could get some new DS games. The electronic, shockingly enough, had hardly been touched since he first arrived in Hogwarts, and it had a generous amount of battery life left in it still. Perhaps he could binge play when he was going on his way back? He still had quite a bit of progress to make in Pokémon Black and White...

Tinsel still thrown over his shoulders like a diva, Piérre unlooped another section of it and threw it around a knight’s hands which were placed on a wicked looking broadsword. The bells on Piérre’s green and red shoes and collar jangled with laughter as the Christmas elf kept bouncing down the hall. He was dressed like a medieval jester, with opposite shades of red and green gracing a three pronged hat with golden bells at their ends, breeches which cut off at the knee, and then striped red and green socks which led down to red shoes with pointed toes with similar bells on them. Flicking his bangs away form his eyes, Piérre held onto his hat as he turned a corner, starting up a new carol as he went jingling along.

”DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW,
IN A ONE HORSE OPEN SLEIGH,
O’ER THE HILLS WE GO,
LAUGHING ALL THE WAY!”

Piérre jumped and did a tight spin as he let out the cheery laugh, throwing his arms out in flamboyant show as the portraits on the walls all gasped simultaneously. Piérre, oblivious, though it only to be a simple expression at the boy’s excitement, but he had never been more wrong.

The boy impacted a suit of armor back first, nearly knocking the wind out of him and hitting his head on the breastplate. With a huff of surprise, Piérre crashed to the ground, the armor tilting back and forth as if to decide if it wished to remain steady or not. In the end, gravity won out, and with a clash like a cymbal, the suit clattered to the ground in about a three meter radius, scattering ancient metal across the floor, part of it landing on the poor Piérre, who was now pinned beneath a shield, splayed on his stomach and dazed from the adrenaline of the moment. Anybody nearby may have been hit with a bit of the armor, and perhaps their sights would be drawn to the young lad, who currently looked as if stars were spinning around his head as his eyes gazed unfocused and cartoonishly on the ground before him.

Nicky was falling down from the sky, everything around her blue and shining. It was scary, but she kept counting fluffy clouds that flew by - in German - ein, zwei, drei, vier... Whatever waited for her in the end would be good, she wanted to believe it with all the might of her heart. But she never found out what it was because her eyelashes fluttered, her eyes opened and her brain reminded her that it was not the right time to be curled up on a couch in the common room. A disaster had occurred. She had fallen asleep in the middle of the day. It was probably the aftermath of staying up late for the first time in forever to finish her huge and incredibly interesting transfiguration homework. Nicky had barely made it to the last letter of the last sentence and when she had woken up the next day she kept stumbling over her own feet like a lunatic before she fell asleep. And now she was awake and fully aware of the horrible thing that had happened - she had missed a whole HOUR of her life, now it would be practically impossible to catch up unless she moved twice as fast!
She grabbed a bag of beautiful decorations that was lying beside her and rushed out of the common room to help others decorate. However, she didn't get too far because as she turned around a corner in one of the corridors there was a terrifying thud and she barely dodged an iron helmet that was flying her way. After quickly observing the scene she caught a glimpse of a head pinned to the floor by a massive shield. And it wasn't just any head - it belonged to one of her teammates.
Nicky gasped and approached him in one frantic jump. The decoration bag flew to the floor and there was a shatter sound - probably one of those glass snowmen. But it didn't matter.
"Piérre? Hello? Are you alive? What are you doing under the shield? Did it fall on you? Does it hurt? Should I get it off?"
However, she immediately realized how stupid the last question was.
"Of course I should get it off! Wait a second, I am going to rescue you!"
And Nicky pulled on the shield with all her might. Unfortunately, it was way too heavy for her to lift alone, so no matter how she tried to move it, it stayed in the same place.
"Ugh!"
Nicky took a second to catch her breath and pulled again but the thing didn't move an inch. She looked around, searching for anything that could be helpful to her and suddenly noticed a familiar silouette in the other end of the corridor, headed in their direction.
"Hellooooo Evelynn!" - she yelled happily at the top of her lungs.
"Could you please give me a hand with this thing, it won't move!"
And she took another second of rest, breathing heavily and preparing for the final battle with the treacherous piece of armour.

Another week had passed. Another week closer to the holidays. In fact, it was barely a week remaining now before she'd be loading up onto the train, settling into a cozy little compartment with some snacks off the trolley, and eagerly awaiting her reunion. Evelynn could hardly believe that the time had flown past so quickly. Arguably, she'd learned more this term than she had in all of her previous school years put together. Well, maybe that wasn't quite true, but it certainly felt that way at times. Probably owing to the nature of the knowledge.

As much as she had struggled with casting in the first couple of months, it was like a flood gate had opened. She was finally getting the hang of calming her mind and "feeling the magic" as she liked to call it. Her spells still weren't all that powerful, persay, but rarely did they fail to cast anymore. The hint of a smile tugged at her lips as she mentally worked through, as she often did on her lunch break, all the spells she knew and those she had read up on ahead of time. She was just thinking back on the etiology of the Levitation Charm and its proper pronunciation, when--

CRASH!

The echoing impact of what she could only assume was metal on stone jolted her from her thoughts to the present. At the end of the hall, Evelynn barely had time to register the scene before witnessing a suit of armor topple over, right onto…

"Piérre!" She called out in surprise, easily recognizing the victim of the downed steel suit. Not only was he also a fellow first-year Gryffindor, but he had tried out for the Quidditch team at the same time she had -- and got in -- but had also played a couple of little roleplaying adventure games put on by one of the older students. Plus, his outburst with the news of the Potter trial verdict wouldn't easily be forgotten.

"Coming!" she shouted in reply, relieved to see Elsa -- another Gryffindor first-year who had also tried out for the Quidditch team -- rush forward to help the prone Pierre. Hitching her bag on her shoulder, Evelynn hurried forward to aid her classmates.

"What happened?" she inquired, trying to keep from grunting with the effort of lifting the shield.

Academic and artistic, she wasn't exactly burly to begin with, and the shield was deceptively heavy. Like her mother, all her strength could be summed up in her legs, courtesy of her years of riding. She put them to good use and gave every effort to work with Elsa to joist the metal monstrosity off the boy's back. With a minute or two of struggling and at solid, synchronized hoist, they finally managed to lift it off of him. It clattered to the floor beside.

W-hoooo… Evelynn breathed as she wiped her hands on the front of her robes -- they had grown slick with effort -- and rolled her already achy arms. The impending danger of suffocation by armor now behind them, she straightened and looked around. It looked like Christmas has vomited all over this area of the hall. With no sense of order, symmetry or eye for aesthetic as far as she could tell, tinsel could be seen just about everywhere, clinging to just about everything. It was horrifying.

And it trailed right back to…

With a groan and a not-so-subtle roll of her eyes, Evelynn bent down to help the self-made Piérre elf jester to his feet, unraveling the coils of binding tinsel from around his shoulders and neck as she did. "You've really gotten into it, huh.." She said tersely. On the one hand, she admired what was a very clear enthusiasm. But on the other hand, he looked ridiculous and had obviously forgotten the cardinal rule of doing anything anywhere ever. Safety. "You're lucky you didn't get skewered like a kabob," she tutted through pursed lips, glancing over to the broadsword nearby. "Did you want some help with your…decorating?"

Was this his idea of decorating?

Wren had a long day ahead of her. She had decided to start decorating her dorm room as none of the other girls, had any time to do it. She was walking down the hall with an armful of ornaments, to decorate the designated Christmas tree when she heard a noise that sounded like someone had fallen down with a loud Crash.

Wren rushed over to the boy, who had two other girls already helping him, she still would not, ignore someone in need.

"Hey, do you all need anymore help? I'm Wren by the way."
Wren leaned down to pick up the fallen tinsel that, the boy had probably been holding before the fall. She heard one of the girls mutter the boys name, which she thought was Piérre.

"Is your name Piérre? I thought I heard someone say that."
She looked to the other two girls

"What are your names? I think I might have mentioned it but my name is Wren, Wren Caster. I am a Gryffinodor first year, and I was on my way to decorate the girl's dorm room, for Christmas because my dorm-mates, I guess you could say, have not done it yet."

Wren looked over to one of the girls. She had honey brown hair, and looked a bit Asian, she thought she might have seen her around the Gryffindor Common Room, but she had never actually talked to her. The other girl with them Wren thought, was also Gryffindor. Her hair was pretty much just brown and she looked to be a pretty young eleven year old.

"Hey, I'm sorry for bothering you all. I sometimes tend to be a bit straightforward, and sometimes I even can get a bit insensitive. Anyways, both of you are Gryffindor right?"

She gestured towards the two girls

"Maybe when we see that Piérre is alright and that he does not need to go to the hospital wing, we can all of us. Even you Piérre, go decorate someplace together. I think that would be fun don't you? We could all have fun with each other instead of all going our separate ways, and decorate each on our own.

Wren thought that decorating all together would be a pretty good idea, seeing as she didn't really like to be alone, despite the fact that she was an introvert. Plus maybe she could get to know some more people in her own house too.

Truth be told, Piérre had not expected anyone to come over and help him, let alone a squad of what appeared to be three girls, all of whom appeared to be Gryffindor. They would have to be, wouldn’t they, to be brave enough to attempt to lift the medieval shield, which would have to weigh at least a hundred pounds, all of which belonging to tempered iron and probably some rust for extra weight.

The breath had been knocked out of him when the shield had landed on him, his ears ringing as he realized the situation. Within seconds, much to his surprise, a girl had shown up, asking him if he needed any help. It was Elsa, one of the chasers for the Gryffindor team. Piérre wanted to respond to her quick, perhaps a little frantic line of questioning, but all he could manage was a tiny nod as he attempted to lift the shield from his back. He must have looked like some sort of sad tortoise, one of the kind he would have found in his garden in Italy.

Elsa called out to Evelynn, and Piérre lifted his head to spot the redhead nearing. He recognized her as another quidditch player who had signed up, and a player in one of the games that a prefect had set up. In a heartbeat, she was beside Elsa, looking down at the mess that Piérre had gotten himself into. She asked him what had happened and it was all Piérre could do not to immediately burst into laughter. ”I need to work on my aerial acrobatics, evidently...” He chortled, recalling the wold spin he had performed before ramming into the suit.

Evelynn rolled her eyes at him and Piérre lowered his head in embarrassment, his cheeks pinking as his ears lowered like they usually did whenever he was scolded. Fortunately, with a little help and a good stroke of fortune, the girls were able to lift the shield and with a kind gesture, Evelynn helped Piérre to his feet, quickly unraveling the tinsel that had been around his neck. Truth be told, the only reason Piérre had had it there was for one, it added to his Christmas outfit, but it had also helped him keep the decoration together.
”You've really gotten into it, huh? You're lucky you didn't get skewered like a kabob.”
Piérre finally managed a small chuckle, his head spinning from the events which had taken place. ”Yeah, but don’t I always?” He shrugged, trying to force some sort of creative energy into a joke. ”Funny thing is, I was just thinking that I would rather be a kabob than an icicle. It’s really cold for a magical castle, yeah Eevee — I mean Evelynn?” Piérre bit his tongue as he accidentally called Evelynn by one of his favorite Pokémon. He looked at his rescuers, scratching the back of his neck. ”Um... thanks a lot for helping me, dunno what I would have done if you hadn’t been here...”
”Hey, do you all need anymore help? I'm Wren by the way.”
A new girl ran up to the small group, scooping up some of the tinsel Piérre had dropped in his fall. Piérre wracked his brain, trying to figure out if he had met this girl before, but nothing came to him. She was certainly pretty, with thick brown hair that seemed to be lighter on the underside. Alas, Piérre couldn’t recall. She had to be a new person, even through she was a Gryffindor.

Well, whoever she was, she was chatty.
”Is your name Piérre? I thought I heard someone say that. What are your names? I think I might have mentioned it but my name is Wren, Wren Caster. I am a Gryffindor first year, and I was on my way to decorate the girl's dorm room, for Christmas because my dorm-mates, I guess you could say, have not done it yet.”
Usually, Piérre would have been spiffy enough to respond just as brightly as Wren was talking, but at this point in time, lightheaded from the event and a little more than off balance, all he could manage was a small, bright smile. ”Nice to meet you, Wren. I’m a first year too. I was actually heading up to the boy’s dorm to decorate there too, but I got a little distracted.” Piérre was surprisingly quaint in his speech, so unlike the caffeinated, talking at a million miles a second as he usually did. It would be a little more than off-putting to those who knew him well enough to be a bundle of energy as he usually was.

Evelynn asked Piérre if he wanted help, and Wren quickly agreed after offering a small apology for her fast talking and straightforwardness.

Piérre waved a hand, laughing lightly. ”Oh, don’t worry about the bluntness, Wren. I do it all the time. Only reason I’m not doing it now is because I almost got squashed like a bug.” He smiled at the three girls. If he had been older, he may have been pleased that they had been interested in helping him, but alas, he was far too young for that right now, and so he only saw helpers. ”I think it would be a WONDERFUL idea if you all helped! I would love to have help! I’m not a one man army, despite what many people think...” Piérre twirled a piece of tinsel around like a lasso, throwing a generous amount over the armor which had fallen.

”Where do you guys want to start? Maybe we could stop by some classrooms and tinsel up the doorways or something?” Piérre jitteriness from almost being crushed was slowly leaving him, and with a small shake, Piérre got rid of the shaking he had been expressing until that moment.

With Evelynn's help, Nicky finally felt the shield moving. Whenn Pierre finally was set free she let out a sigh of relief and wiped her sweaty palms on her skirt.  It seemed that sweat was everywhere now, she could feel a thin stream running down her back.
"They sure made high quality shields back in the good old days, didn't they?"
Seeing that Pierre had suffered no damage to his bones or other body parts she felt another wave of relief wash over her. She wouldn't want her teammate to end up in the hospital wing on Christmas and besides, it had to be a happy day full of decorating, chatting, running around and being happy. Pain and suffering definitely wouldn't support the festive mood.
Another girl approached them, offering help and introduced herself. Nicky had seen Wren before but never heard what her name was. This was the perfect opportunity to befriend her.
"It's great to meet you, Wren, I am Nicky and I am from Gryffindor too!"
After Piérre said that they could decorate together, she immediately grabbed her bag and jumped up and down.
"Yes! Let's all go decorate together! Maybe we could go to the common room first? It will look so pretty if we tinsel up that fat lady portrait and decorate the windows!"

She didn't know Pierre well, but she knew him enough to be one of those that held to the more stereotypical characteristics of Gryffindor. Dramatic, loud, comical, center of attention. It usually annoyed her, these types; but Pierre had proven himself to have a keen eye and a quick wit, and so she didn't mind him quite as much as some of the others. Evelynn flashed him a warm smile as he recovered from his extravagant fail, and even went so far as to chuckle at his kabob jest.

His slip up in calling her Eevee left her feeling a little flushed. That moniker hadn't been used for her in many years, but it was one that had always been used fondly by close friends. She couldn't quite explain why, but it left her feeling a little giddy that he had used it. Even if it was a mistake.

"You're welcome," she replied, attempting to suppress a grin. She was just about to ask if he was okay when they were approached by a new face.

A mosquito.

It was the first thing that came to mind as the trio became practically accosted mid-effort by a seemingly endless line of questioning. Several times, Evelynn had parted her lips to reply to the over-energetic girl only to close them again as she started right back up with another string of commentary. Even had the first-year gryffindor -- for now that she had stepped back from Pierre, Evelynn recognized her from the Dragon's Den -- had paused long enough to catch her breath, both Pierre and Elsa answered before Evelynn could.

Which was probably for the best, if truth be told. It gave Evelynn a chance to take a few breaths and clear her mind; all of the presumptions and incorrect self-labeling that this Wren had spoken had left the redhead just a touch bristled. So much so that she couldn't quite suppress the twinge of annoyance at the corner of her mouth with the prospect of having to actually spend time decorating with her, as both Pierre and Esla had already agreed to do.

"Why not?" Evelynn added, smoothly turning the tug of her lips into a smile while steel eyes scrutinized this fourth addition. "The more, the merrier, isn't that what they always say? And what a merrier time of year than Christmas?"

Fake it til you make it, right?

"I'm Evelynn," the redhead continued, stooping to grab her dropped bag and hitch it over a shoulder. "Nice to meet you." Then, turning to Elsa with a smile, "The common room would be a great idea. I was just thinking this morning it could use some holiday flair, and I have a few spells in mind to practice that could do just the trick."

When the Asian looking girl answered her question, Wren had a feeling that she was a bit annoyed at her endless stream of words. Wren could admit she had a problem talking too much. It was a personality trait.

"Why not? The more, the merrier, isn't that what they always say? And what a merrier time of year than Christmas?"

“Yup! Oh, and guys? I’m sorry if I talk too much. Please do not hesitate to shut me up in one way or another. I will not get offended, honestly, I’m pretty used to it”
Wren laughed, her merry high pitched laugh.

The Asian looking girl introduced herself as Evelynn.

“I think your name is really pretty, Evelynn.”

The other girl with them introduced herself as Nicky.

”I think it would be a WONDERFUL idea if you all helped! I would love to have help! I’m not a one man army, despite what many people think...”

Pierre chimed in, evidently excited to be presented the option of helpers.

As Evelynn was presenting her idea to Nicky, Wren decided that even if she wasn’t directly taking to her, she would go ahead and clarify that she really didn’t care where they went or what they used. They could just go on and decided and she would follow them to wherever.

“Hey, um, Evelynn? I know you weren’t talking to me but I’m really okay with wherever we go. I-I’m sorry for interrupting, but I just wanted you to know that you all don’t have to ask me. I’ll just go with y’all”

Even though her southern accent slipped out a bit when she was nervous she was not embarrassed. To be honest, this girl, Evelynn, intimidated her. Wren was very good at noticing things and she could tell that Evelynn was examining her. Now, Nick on the other hand, looked like a super friendly person. Wren didn’t think she’d have any problem with her in the future.

"The common room would be a great idea. I was just thinking this morning it could use some holiday flair, and I have a few spells--"

Evelynn's words cut off abruptly as Wren spoke up, interrupting the redhead in the process. A pregnant pause hung in the air, the only sign of an inner turmoil as Evelynn forced down the anger that had flashed suddenly to the surface. Yes. This particular individual, it seemed, knew how to push her buttons without even trying; and likely without even realizing it.

Steeling herself, Evelynn pulled her gaze away from Elsa and panned it back to she-who-had-dared-interrupt. Grey eyes met brown, once again scrutinizing in unblinking silence. One breath. Then another. Evelynn was finding it very difficult to find the words to articulate herself in a way that wouldn't make her lose face with the two others present with whom she had already built rapport.

The more she thought about it, the more her mind circled. The more she over-thought it, the more her hackles bristled and the longer the silence spanned. She could feel the heat rising in her face, feel the constriction of her throat like fingers curling tightly about her neck. Despite all effort, her anger was broiling, and the pressure of its heat was quickly overcoming her control. Eventually, it snapped.

"You're right..." She said quietly, the hint of a sneer tugging below her nose. "I wasn't talking to you. And if you're saying sorry for interrupting with the same breath you used to interrupt, then you knew it was wrong before you did it," she continued with a calculated ice to her tone.

Too harsh. Evelynn knew she was probably feeling unreasonably perturbed. That little vent had been enough to let some of the steam off, at least, and she managed to rein herself in again. If even just a bit.

"We hadn't even asked you yet if you were okay with decorating the common room," Evelynn's eyes squinted a bit as she cocked her head and some of the stiffness in her words faded. Instead, she could easily pass as incredulously bewildered. "Not that we wouldn't have...but you could let a fellow Gryph get a conspiratory word in before cutting in. Kinda makes it so people around you might not want to bother trying to talk if you're just going to interrupt them..."

Again. Too harsh. Evelynn scolded herself internally for being so defensive about it. She wasn't even really sure why she was, really. Maybe she was projecting. But communication was the foundation of all things, and the single most important skill her mother had attempted to instill in her. The way Wren acted was just downright rude. Evelynn was doing her a favour, she rationalized; educating her.

"Glad you don't mind, though," Evelynn said, lifting her brows and flashing Wren a sarcastic thumbs up. "Makes it easier for the rest of us.

"So, what do you guys think,"
Evelynn tried again, without waiting for a reply from Wren. She had already used up all of her alloted verbal word count as far as Evelynn was concerned. All the edge had now faded from her tone as she glanced over to Piérre and Elsa. "Start here, decorate the halls on the way back to the dorm, and finish up with an exquisite masterpiece of festive décor in the common room?"

Piérre was just bruising himself off before he heard the small spat between the two girls, Evelynn and the new girl, who was evidently named Wren. Wren reminded Piérre of himself in several way, mostly in the way that she seemed to speak everything that was in her mind, interrupting when she found it convenient and wearing her feelings on her sleeve. Energetic and bouncy, just like the Britalian.

However, it seemed that Evelynn didn’t really have a fancy for people who interrupted or made out of turn statements, as she turned to Wren and began to lecture about having etiquette during conversation. That was mostly why Piérre had stayed out of it. He hadn’t wanted to be caught in the crossfire of two bickering girls, which he knew form experience was a recipe for disaster if he were to attempt stepping in and breaking thighs up. He bit his lip and glanced at @Elsa Veronica Bennett with slight concern in his gaze. ”Should we try to break them up? Do they have bad blood?” He whispered, trying his best to desperately remove himself from the bickering. He was never one for fighting, through he often ended up in that position against his own volition. When it came to fighting or struggles, his tactic was to evade and get away. He knew he was likely to get hurt as opposed to cause hurt, and he would much rather prefer that he didn’t add more to a tense situation than what was already provided.

When there came to be a pause in the bickering and Evelynn had calmed down a bit, she put in her final opinion, asking if the group would prefer to spruce up the area here or if they would like to go to the common room immediately. After a pause, jut to make sure nobody else would make an I put or interrupt, Piérre finally spoke, smiling assuringly in an attempt to dissipate the tension. He knew he was unlikely to change people’s moods in a snap second, but it was worth a chance if it meant that everyone could take a deep breath and calm down. ”I wouldn’t care if we went to the dorms now. Let me just do one more thing and I’m ready to go!” So saying, Piérre tossed an especially large loop of tinsel over a nearby statue so that it wore a stole of silver before reaching into his school pouch and throwing a handful of silver and gold glitter into the air. It slowly fell to the ground like precious powder in the place of snow.

When he was quite finished, Piérre dusted his hands off and gripped the strap of his satchel, looking at his small posse. ”Alrighty! To the commons?” he asked brightly, flicking his bangs away from his eyes with a small jerk of his head. ”Maybe we can get to know each other better?” He of course said this to passively point out the discord between Evelynn and Wren. Piérre didn’t want any fighting during the festive season, and besides, with extra hands the work would likely only take a few hours at the most.

He took a few steps past the group, looking at the fallen suit of armor spoof a second before shrugging. Someone would end up cleaning it up. Many of the students around would likely be a little too weak to assemble everything the way it was before, and chances were than an adult or a house elf knew how to piece the medieval suit together better than any of the people present. He would wait for everyone to be ready to leave before moving on, and now he was swaying back and forth, humming Silver and Gold under his breath as the rest of the group interacted.
