Eri's favorite subject was transfiguration. Mainly cause her aunt was an animagus. Her aunt also taught her a lot about the subject. She was very well equipped with knowledge to be able to pass the first year with flying colors but she didn't want to seem like a show off. Eri yearned to become an animagus like her aunt. She had read it was very difficult and you needed to know plenty of things. So she thought she might go ask her transfiguration professor if he would be willing to help her out. She remembered from the first lesson he had admitted to being an animagus. So she knew he had the knowledge to help her. What she didn't know if he would be willing to help her but she was willing to take the chance in order to achieve her goal.

She walked along the corridors and up a flight of stairs to the second floor. It was a long way from the study room to the sixth floor where the transfiguration class rom was located. She kept walking up some stairs until she reached the sixth floor. She was a little out of breath but she was almost there.

She went up to the door and knocked hoping he would be there.

If Sergei could, he'd enchant his quill to have a mind of its own and do his grading for him. When he signed up to become the Transfiguration professor for Hogwarts, he had forgotten the fact that he would be bombarded with papers to grade. He dreaded when he would get the next wave of papers, he actually increased the difficulty this time around. A single open window was creaked from high above, letting some gust of wind as the professor worked away. By force, his workspace was neat and tidy as opposed to his personal quarters. His messy manners didn't always translate to the classroom and he was made clear of that from the beginning. For a man his age, he also was in no need of glasses either and seemed to be just as nimble as his younger colleagues.

Yet the grizzled features said otherwise, he definitely didn't look like himself in his Durmstrang years. Like a lot of older wizards, he was old fashioned and dressed as such. It was easy to mistake him for a man who was stuck in the past, perhaps for good reasons. "...transfigurationem, not transfiguratio, Mr. Eaton." he softly spoke as he corrected the homework. The sound of a knocking prompted the birds in his classroom to squawk a little, hushing as Sergei motioned for them to quiet. What time was it? The grey hues took a quick glance at his stopwatch, noting that it was still his after class hours. "Come in, come in." he called loudly.

His voice was surely loud enough for the person to hear, plus he didn't see the use in coming over. The walk was a long one the student would end up at his desk anyway. What question would they have now? Perhaps it was about the magical alphabet, he had gotten a few letters asking for clarification. The man put everything he had down and folded his hands on his lap.

She heard the professor tell her to come in. She opened the door and quietly vlosed it as she walked towards his desk. She still pondered what his response would be and how she should ask it. Je did seem busy maybe she could ask another time. No, now was fine.

She walked past the rows of desks. His room was one of the most organized. She smiled and walked calmly over to the professer's desk. She looked at the birds near his desk.

When she got to his desk she tried to figure out how to ask her question. "Excuse me, Professor? Would you be willing to help me learn how to become an animagus? Its been a really big goal of mine. I will work as hard as I need to to get to my goal. If you are willing to help me." She smiles and waits his answer hoping he wouldn't say no or think her not focused enough on her school work.

It really was one of her goals. To become an animagus like her aunt. It would shock her parents and make her aunt proud. She really thought she was ready to learn how to be animagus but she knew it wasn't taught until third year. She really work as hard as she needed to acheive her goal. She also would do anything to prove she was ready. Hoping he would say yes.

Sergei nodded to the student as she came closer, he had folded his hands on his desk as she began to speak. His brows immediately rose at the request, it was quite a bold one. What would a student so young want to become an animagus for? It was a dangerous process, especially for someone so young. The man brushed his thumb across his brow, " ... For someone so young, that's quite the request. It's a dangerous and tedious process, not to mention it is quite a bold request at your age too."

From what he understood, the young student was looking for a mentor - perhaps he shouldn't have mentioned he was an animagus in his first class. It seemed to spark curiosity and in this case, it felt like too much curiosity. Yet he was never one to turn down a curious mind, the man fell silent for a moment. A far off expression spoke that he was thinking, pondering whether he should even consider teaching it.

The Bulgarian leaned his elbows against his desk, "There is going to be a supplementary course in the process of becoming an animagus beginning in your third year. I am not entirely trying to discourage you from pursuing it, but why are you in such a hurry to begin, miss ..." What was her name? He had barely learned anyones name, yet he'd actually remember if he was given the time and chance.

"Eri Windstone." She kept her emotions hidden. He hadn't refused nor accepted. "Well professor. I had already had this goal since my aunt is an animagus. I also know it is difficult. My aunt has taught me a lot on transfiguration but I still don't know everything."She smiled at him. She hoped he would take her seriously but being a first year he might not though. So she stood silently awaiting his answer for her.

She thought how she might be able to prove to him that she was ready, but that might not be possible. He was the professor and she wasn't so he knew best. Would he help her learn early or would she have to wait. She knew not to teach herself if she wasn't ready or there would be consequences. It would be very foolish of her to do it on her own. Would he help her or would he ask her to wait until third year. She really wanted help.

She stood there for a small moment pausing her thoughts. She looked around his room noticing all of the orginazation. Then her gaze was directed at him when she snapped out of her thoughts. She continued to ponder her thoughts as she waited.

"Miss Windstone." he echoed, nodding slightly. He was interested by her answer, she sounded like a bright young witch. It wasn't impossible to teach her, but it wasn't possible either. "Well ..." He also needed to perhaps take up the request with Blackburn, just to keep him up to date. Sergei pulled a small black journal over, a red seal had been pressed into it - worn with time if she could distinguish it, it was the seal of Durmstrang. He made a noise in the back of his throat, taking a quick few seconds to skim the contents of the page with his gloved hand.

"When I was learning to become an animagus, I began quite early as well. So, perhaps there's no harm in doing the same for you." He kept his eyes on the journal, reading his old notes as he carefully replied to Eri. How would he go about this? It was also difficult to fully know what she was capable of at this point in time. Yet he took her word for it when she said that she had previous experience with transfiguration, even a relative who was an animagus. He didn't know a lot of animagi, simply because most seem to be allergic with registering themselves to the Ministry of Magic.

He had been unregistered for the longest time, wandering most of Europe undetected. Yet for the sake of his employment at Hogwarts, he hesitantly registered himself to the Ministry's slowly growing roster of animagi. She'd probably have to do something similar when or if she did perfect the skill. But he wanted to test her knowledge first on how much she truly knew.

He moved away from his desk and thought about what he would exactly begin her with. "I'm willing to teach you Ms. Windstone, just know that I will refrain from teaching you certain things till your next year. When I was around your age, my professor at the time had go gauge if certain students were ready to study it and that's one of the things I need to figure out with you."

He picked up a piece of chalk from the board and used his other free hand to pick up the eraser. Sergei slowly began to erase what was on his board. "You seem mature enough to ask me at least, that's a good sign. But I'm curious, why do you wish to study to become an animagus? The common complaint I get is that the process is long and arduous, with a skill that's limited mainly to subterfuge."

"I want to become an animagus because My aunt told me it gives you a sense of freedom. I want to because I know its possible and I am not afraid of hard work. I will do what it takes to acheive being an animagus." She followed him over to the chalkboard. She recognized the durmstrang seal on his journal but thought against saying anything about it. He actually agreed but he said he would keep some information away from hwr cause she might not be ready. She wondered what he was going to write on the chalkboard. She smiled a small smile.

She had to refrain from letting her emotions overwhelm her. She looked at the board waiting for him to write stuff on the board. "Some people are not prepared to do something hard in fear of failure. If you do not fail you do not learn. In this case failure to complete the transformation can be fatal." She replied softly. She wanted him to think she was ready. She knew she was ready to start learning.

She stood silently watching the board.  She knew she wouldn't be able to talk him into teaching her everything but for now this would do.

Her aunt had taught her. It was quite an interesting fact to hear, he didn't get a lot of students who had prior exposure to Transfiguration. Not only that, he regarded this section of the wizarding world to be a bit more conservative with what they taught their students. Perhaps he was wrong. He couldn't help but also smile what she said, it was quite wise for someone her age to say. "That's keen of a young witch to stay, not a lot of young students like the prospect of possible failure. Well said, miss Windstone." he remarked.

His tone wasn't so stern and firm, it came off as a simply as a mentor. Sergei was slowly becoming more confident in guiding the young witch, although he still had hesitance. He's had a pupil in the past whose path to becoming an animagus didn't turn out so well. Perhaps if he was more careful this time around, Eri wouldn't end up with the same fate as his old pupil. What was he writing?

He grunted and took himself away from the board for a second, turning around to face the student. Where should he begin? Perhaps he needed to give her a preview of what she should expect. "Very few witches and wizards become animagi. Some do not find the trouble worth it and others do not have the discipline necessary to learn it." he began, slowly taking the gloves off his hand.

The Bulgarian's accent was heavy, so he spoke slowly to the girl in order for her to understand. He stood and spoke with discipline, a trait instilled by his years spent in Durmstrang. "That does not mean you cannot do it though, becoming an animagus is very much a wandless type of magic. In fact, in the wizarding school of Uagadou in Uganda - they can perfect such a skill by the age of fourteen. But this comes with years of training and guidance, do not think you are too late to learn it. It just takes a certain mindset and forged discipline to become one. I'm sure you expect a lot of failures Miss Windstone, there will be numerous factors that will force you to start over." His lesson was more of a personal lecture to the young witch on the standard.

This was his misstep with his old pupil, not preparing him enough for the hardships of becoming one. Sergei took the chalk in his hand and spoke what he wrote. "You have one month to complete the whole cycle, if you do not complete it by then - you must begin the next month. So to prepare you for this, you must have patience and perseverance. The step that wizards and witches tend to actually fail at is the first step." The man drew a quick rendition of a leaf. He then stopped to walk over to his desk and pull his book bag from the floor. Sergei deftly rummaged through it to pull out a vial with a leaf within it. He walked back to the student, footsteps heavy as he held it out for her to take and look at.

"Some cannot stand to have a leaf in their mouth for a whole month, some do not even know what this leaf looks like sometimes. You must have a mandrake's leaf in your mouth, pure mandrake. It cannot be a crossbreed of the plant. But the hurdle most student encounter is keeping the leaf within their mouth. You must eat and sleep with it; tedious even by my standards." He didn't want her to attempt any of it now, so he refrained from speaking of the rest of the steps in the mean time. Sergei paused to look at between the young witch and the board, what else?

There was something on the older man's mind, wondering for a moment before speaking once more. "I will teach you how to fully become an animagus on your spare time if you wish. For now, you should learn how to develop such patience and concentration. So when come your third year, you will be ready. How you do that is up to you, my methods may not work with you." The chalk was set on the holder, he didn't think he'd have much to write past this.

But he was willing to have a discussion with the girl about the subject. The man placed his hands in his pockets of his dress pants. "However, is there anything you would like to ask me at this moment?" Did he go to fast and give her too much information? He didn't know for sure, but he didn't mind repeating himself for the young student.

He had given her more information than she thought he would be willing to reveal. She nodded to what he said as she listened. "The first step is what most fail on? Well I don't have any ideas on learning patience. If you don't mind I wouldn't mind using any of your methods."  She smiled. He was actually teaching her. In her spare time. She didn't have much spare time she didn't use so she would have to drop a few things that she normally did. "Failure is what makes you excel. If you do not fail, you do not learn." She had learned that from her aunt. Her aunt always taught her giving up was not an option. If you failed you tried again and learned from your mistakes.

She watched him carefully and looked at the board. She wanted to make sure she didn't miss any of the lesson. She made mental notes of everything he said so she could write it down later. She put her hands in her pockets and watched him. He held a vile with a leaf in it. She wondered what it was for. She waited patiently for him to explain the leaf.
