From the Muggle to the Wizarding World
It was Jack's first night at Hogwarts and while he was ecstatic, there were still so many mixed feelings about the place and the world he had found himself in. Unable to sleep, he snuck out from his dormitory and slipped into the library - the first place he had made sure to note the location of after the lavatories. At least this library didn't look so different from the ones back home, even if pretty much everything else about the place did. With shelves of books piled high all around, the newly-appointed first-year could curl up in a corner and imagine he was still at his local library.
It was so strange having grown up as a normal - well, what they called 'muggles' here - and then all of a sudden getting mail by nocturnal predatory birds and being made to buy pointed hats and cauldrons and being told he could do magic.
At first, he was sure his parents had been messing with him, but their grave faces quickly disposed of that certainty. It seemed they had been pre-warned, though they hadn't told him when or by whom, and he couldn't help feeling the slightest bit contemptuous that they had had so much more time to process the whole thing than he had.
Then again, without him there any longer, they probably needed the extra time beforehand to get used to the idea of their son's fate. He, on the other hand, still had plenty of time to process all this; seven years, he'd been told, if he didn't get expelled partway through.
He felt he'd been sent back through time. Drafty old castles, no internet or computers...inconvenient as it was, the whole setting seemed unreal, like a dream. He still kept reaching for his phone and wondering what use it would be here if any. But the strangest part of all of this was that as much as he didn't know about the wizarding world, the children who had been born and raised in it seemed to know next to nothing about the muggle world.
That was the impression he had been given, anyway. Who knew? Perhaps there were a few children here and there who were as savvy with one world as with the other. The differences still fascinated him, however, and he wondered if there were any other muggle-born children like him who found themselves missing the comforts of modern muggle living. The lack of internet would take some getting used to...but so would the sight of the various owls swooping in every morning to deliver mail, and he didn't think he'd mind getting used to that.

From the Muggle to the Wizarding World
I walk into the library still a little confused with the whole mess of things. I was raised in another world with only little knowlage of the other world...the magical one the one that died with dad when I was so young...I knew about this place the possibility that I could be sentenced with the chalenge of learning what only a small part of the world had the ability to learn. As I walk through the empty library I see so many books more than my pathetic school library could ever hold. I brush my fingers up against the binding of these old books. I imagined dad walking through these book filled shelves how much he probably loved it, he loved to read. he would read me stories every night. As I walked into a small closed off section of the library I found a small boy probably the same age as me wearing slytherin colors "Hi...are you okay"
* sits down next to the boy * "my name is Alex Tyler I'm in Gryffindor wanna be friends...I know Slytherins and Gryffindors are supposed to hate each other...but hay...all traditions come to an end right?" This makes me laugh a little inside, dad always believed that

The Slytherin glanced up at the inquiry if he was okay, surprised to see a girl there, and from Gryffindor, no less. Before he could answer her, she was seating herself next to him. He raised a brow at her forward behavior. Then again, hadn't there been something about Gryffindor students supposedly being known for their bravery or their boldness or something?
Regardless of his thoughts, he put on a friendly smile and shrugged. "Can't sleep. Just been a lot to take in today. Both mentally and...all that food from dinner." He pat his belly meaningfully. "What about you? You here 'cause you couldn't sleep, either?" Thinking he might have heard her name called during the sorting hat ceremony, he wondered if she had the same or similar reasons he did.
When the girl introduced herself, Jack nodded slowly in acknowledgment, but couldn't help smirking at what came after. "I don't know much about traditions and I know even less about whatever silly rivalries the houses have. But I don't really...make friends." He reached out idly to one of the nearest bookshelves, scanning the titles on the spines of the books until he found something of interest. Plucking it out, he added, "They just end up hurting you in the end. You're better off without them."

"yeah I hear that there's only so many times you can be stabbed in the back"
I glance down then put on a cheery smile. Taylor...Brit...Josh all of my class mates stabbed me in the back and yet I'm here in a completely new enviroment with completely different people that I know I most likely cant trust trying to make friends with a Slytherin who probably will stab me in the back solely because I'm Gryffindor although he seem reluctent to make friends he probably learned after being stabbed once and I still seem to think I can make a friend, maybe its cuz' that's what dad would have wanted...for me to make friends and have fun at hogwarts although I should probably give up now
"but hay I guess you learned...I sure didn't"
I start to remember my old 'friends' yeah hes right all friends do is hurt you
"so are you new here as well...I am I always wondered what it was like here but I do miss waching netflix and playing vidiogames"
Ha video games the one place where I wouldn't have to be scared of bullies or betrail the one place I was safe when I wasn't with dad

Hazel eyes cast Alex a dubious look, his own smile faultering as he searched her face. "Who'd you hear that from?" he asked, referring to how many times one could be stabbed in the back. The comment about not having learned perplexed him as well. "Has someone betrayed you before?"
Perhaps there was more to this house thing than he thought. From the sounds of it, Jack had thought the description of Gryffindors sounded pretty foolish, which was what he considered a synonym for 'bravery'. He had doubted all the people in a house could share the same trait or values.
But if this girl was openly admitting that she had been hurt before by so-called friends and hadn't yet learned, that seemed to fit what'd he'd considered the stereotype of a Gryffindor pretty well.
So...they had just met, barely become aquaintances, and she was already asking to be his friend? Well, he was fairly sure she'd be singing a different tune real fast. Either that, or she was just desperate.
The mention of Netflix and videogames caught him by surprise, though. Had she been raised in the muggle world, too? Could she possibly also have been a muggle-born?
Deciding to be difficult, the redhead gave Alex an uncertain grin. "Uh...yeah, I'm new here. I'm a first year. But...what's Netflix'? And...what kind of games did you say you miss? They sound weird."

"netflix is an app you can watch movies on and video games are a type of online game...Oh you must be a wizard born...I'm half-blood I've been raised by a muggle mom my dad was a wizard he told me about the wizarding world that it was amazing"
The mention of dad hurts me a little and I resist the uge to cry.I cant do that not now that I'm a Gryffindor...I'm supposed to be brave they honistly put me in the wrong house I'm scared of so many things but for some reason I'm not scared of this boy like I am with most people. I'm not scared of trusting him for some reason, and that IS scary. maybe I'm supposed to trust him. I can feel the tears well up but I rub them away before they happen
" and yeah I have been betrayed before but I'm trying to let people in instead of shutting them out cuz' if you shut everyone out you'll never find anyone good"
I smile warmly at the boy maybe he is good...I hope he is...apparently all Slytherins do is hurt people
"also I just realized... this is kinda random...but uh...Whats your name?"

"What's an 'app'?" he asked, brows furrowing in feigned consternation as she continued to try to explain. Ah, there was the information he was looking for - she was a half-blood. That always seemed to Jack like an intriguing background. But just as he thought he was starting to get a better understanding of Alex, she looked like he was about to cry and he frowned. Was she feeling like crying because of the talk of her parents? Or because she had been betrayed before?
Jack was contemplating whether to make a show of comforting her or not when she Alex spoke of the consequences of shutting everyone out and he snorted. "'Never find anyone good'?" he repeated "For what? Why do you need anyone at all? You're your own person, aren't you?" Shrugging again, he added, "Besides, who's to say a 'good person' exists at all? Humans are selfish by nature. It's a survival tactic to look out for number one first and foremost."
Taken aback by the question about his name, Jack blinked, mildly surprised. He hadn't expected her to ask about him at all. With a small smirk, he decided to reward her with an honest, direct answer - the sort he rarely gave otherwise. "Name's Jack. Jack Burnett. But you didn't answer my question earlier about why you're out here in the library so late at night. Shouldn't you be sleeping?"

" I cant sleep...I don't sleep often anymore...I have nightmares"
At the mention of nightmeres I realize I'm sharing way too much with this boy I'm trusting him way too much I need to stop...but this boy his name is Jack...I imidately think about Jack Miller...the only boy I ever knew I could trust but I pushed him away...Maybe the world is telling me to trust this boy...the problem is getting him to trust me
" how old are you...wait that was a dumb quetion your probably 11 like everyone else although I'm turning 12 soon. okay what kind of music do you wizard-borns listen too"
Ha now I'm asking about his preferences I'm stupid I should just go to bed an accept that I'm probably gonna have more nightmares. Maybe I can still leave school soon although mom would send me back as soon as posibable she wants me to studdy magic more than she misses dad probably. Although I will get to go for christmas break, or so I hope
"we do get to leave for winter break right I mean you would know that right being a wizard-born and everything that was probably fun being raised knowing your magic"
I can tell we've been here way too long by now and I know that students aren't alowd to be out of bed at this hour...I feel my hart race quiken along with my breathing pattern...I hope no one finds us...and I'm starting to panic... I hope I don't have an anxiety attack in here I'm not sure if I can trust Jack not to take the oppertunity to attack me.

"Nightmares? Um..can't you take pills for that? Or, uh...can't they cure you magically or something? You should ask the school nurse." He gave her a crooked grin at the question she asked before immediately answering it herself. Shaking his head, Jack sighed.
"Listen...you don't really care how old I am or what kind of music I listen to, do you? I mean, what's the point? Aren't you just trying to avoid your own problems?" He didn't have the patience for this. If she wanted to make a friend or have a chat with someone, it seemed like anyone would have been fine. The only reason he was the one being asked, of all people, was probably just because he was the only other person she had found who was awake at that hour.
Sneering as Alex seemed to talk nervously, Jack opened the book in his hands and perused the pages as he leaned back against the bookshelf. "I don't get why being wizard-born would mean I know anything about winter break. I'm still a first-year and I don't have any siblings, so it's not like I know anyone else who's gone to this school before me." Gesturing with a hand, he continued, "But weren't you also raised knowing magic since you're a half-blood?"

"Not really...my magical parent died when I was really young so I had no one to teach me"
I'm shakeing now trying to keep up the conversation with this boy. This is the other reason I don't make friends because when I talk to people I don't know it triggers my anxiety
"oh and as for...for um the whole avoiding my problems there's not much I can say about that because I do care...I...I think that your...probably a nice person that people just don't...don't really like you often....and um...no I cant take pills for the nightmares because I'm allergic to a certain type of medicine in the pills and....and as for the magical treatment I've only been here a day...so..so I haven't been to the hospital wing yet"
I'm gasping a little now...we should be in our dorms but I don't want to leave...I don't want to leave Jack or the place dad probably sat, so I pulled out my owl pendant from in my shirt and thought about dad holding me close while we watch the nightmare before Christmas and then turned to face Jack
"Are you actually a wizard born Jack because for a boy who was...was raised here sure you don't really know anything about the wizarding world...I....I mean why are you reading tome three on potions and cures that's a fourth year book that by rule your not supposed to read until your actuall third year if you want to study it early"
I looked Jack dead in the eye shaking and trying to breathe normally
