Lusia always liked to start with the most difficult tasks, and what other than to start off a day of school shopping than with getting her school books? She hoped it wouldn't take too long because she had an appointment at Florean Fortescue's. Her hopes dropped a little when she entered the shop and saw the dreadful amount of customers.

Following behind Lusia was her mother, an alluring Spanish woman named Catalina Blest who was dressed in a long, flowing purple gown and a black robe that matched her daughter's. Unlike her mother's classic look, Lusia was wearing a navy blue flannel and a pair of black jeans underneath her cloak, completed with her new pair of combat boots.

Lusia made to pull forward her hood but it was immediately snatched back by her mother. If looks could kill, the one her mother was giving her would've definitely done the job. Mrs. Blest liked to look presentable among other wizards, especially the elite ones, and her youngest daughter's reputation for "grungey" looks didn't help at all. Since her father didn't care for modern fashion, as long as it was presentable, Lusia was left to her own choice in the matter, which upset her mother deeply. But she couldn't do anything about it, and that pleased the young girl very much.

“It's not cold in here, Lusia,” she purred, as if that were reason behind her actions. Lusia of course knew better and smirked at her forced smile, ignoring her. They didn't like each other, unsurprisingly.

She pulled out her list of supplies from her pocket and studied it. After a minute, she looked up and around, deciding on where she would go first. The books were relatively organized but that didn't make the task any more trivial.

Lusia sighed and headed off to the section marked "Dark Arts”, leaving her mother to talk to some people she didn't give a hoot for. Better to start of in the least vexing area.

Less than five minutes later she was standing there, combing through the volumes even though she already had her Defense Against the Dark Arts copy in hand.

Erika strode by store after store, blindly guiding her mother, Brigette, around Diagon Alley with confidence. She wore a bright yellow tee and blue boot cut jeans with worn black tennis shoes. Her hair was pulled up into her usual messy ponytail which swished back and forth behind her as she walked. It was a simple outfit but something about it made her stick out like a sore thumb.

Truth be told, the stout woman in the long skirt chasing after the young girl probably knew her way around the place better, thanks to her enrollment in Hogwarts in her youth. It had been years since she last visited Diagon Alley though, so her memories were a bit foggy. Thankfully, the place hadn’t changed much in that time and as she hurried down the street after her daughter, she would randomly see, hear, or smell something that sent a wave of nostalgia washing over her. It usually sent her back to when she came shopping here with her own mother. She wanted to share those memories with Erika, but they didn’t exactly have the same relationship she remembered having with her mother before she passed.

Brigette had stopped trying to wrangle her daughter a while ago and now struggled to keep her insight. What she didn’t realize, however, was that the girl was moving so quickly not because she was bubbling over with excitement, but that she was actually trying to evade her mother.

And, after multiple attempts, she was finally successful. Just as her mother passed Olivander’s, a sight that caused her to pause and reminisce, Erika slipped around a corner and ducked through the first door she saw. There she found herself in a room stacked high with books on all sides and full of people. She had never seen a book store so busy! Granted, she didn’t normally go to bookstores… But still.

It wasn’t like she was complaining though. In fact, quite the opposite! The more people there were, the easier it would be to blend in! She smiled and quickly slunk further into the store.

It didn’t take her long to find a section to lie low in. While most of the aisles were brimming with people, one labeled “Dark Arts” had a surprisingly low amount of people mingling about. Just one, in fact — a small, angular figure shrouded in black. They stood with their back to Erika, paging through various volumes on the shelves. Erika made sure to stay on the other side of the aisle from this mysterious person and began to awkwardly run her fingers over the spines of books like she had seen people do in movies. She didn't think any of these would open up a secret passageway though. Probably.

As Erika's fingertips grazed the various shelves, she briefly wondered why this section in particular was so barren. To her, anything with dark in its name automatically seemed badass. Dark Side, Dark Knight, Dark Web — you get the picture. By her logic, this place should be packed.

But she shrugged it off and pulled out a random book, mindlessly flipping through the pages. She contorted her eyebrows as she pretended to read the book, trying to look like she was doing something incredibly important and probably failing miserably, but the last thing she wanted was for people to get suspicious.
