the hogwart's library was more magnificent than anything enoch could've dreamt up. with seemingly endless rows of books and a peculiar scent of wizened parchment paper, it was reminiscent of the library back at the frostkeep estate. a pang deep within his soul was felt at the resemblance, perhaps the only time he felt homesick since he boarded the hogwarts express. the feeling was quickly dismissed, replaced by a feeling of wonder and a yearning for knowledge.

if it was up to enoch, he would spend sunrise to sundown in the magnificent room, reading up on everything from magizoology to hexes. the first evening he spent in the library was a welcomed solace from the crowded corridors and deafening chatter of the great hall. the blissful silence of the library gave him time to mull over his classwork and daydream until he was forced to return to reality.

tonight, enoch had found himself a particularly interesting book. the words first love, first loss were written in eloquent lettering, distinguishing itself from the rather drab and ancient books that sat with a layer of dust on their covers. intrigued, the boy climbed the steps of the ladder that leaned against the bookcase and tugged the book from its spot. his nose crinkled in disgust at the description written on the back of the book. a romance novel? merlin, who the hell would read this? enoch thought with a grimace, reaching up to put the book back in its spot. glancing to the end of the bookshelf to make sure no one was around, the slytherin had a change of heart and tucked the book under his arm as he descended the ladder. heh, i'll give it a read just so i can see how terrible it is. he mused, trying to come up with an excuse as to why he hadn't left the book for some other sap to read. still ashamed of his choice in literature, enoch hid the book in his cloak to avoid the gazes of his schoolmates. since it was nearly eight, there would hardly be any time to finish the book before curfew hit. the slytherin first year made his way to the librarian's desk and retrieved the book, clearing his throat that threatened to crack with embarrassment, "just one book to check out tonight. i'll bring it back in the morning."

enoch returned to his cozy spot towards the back of the room where a worn, yet comfortable, victorian chair sat. the slytherin boy kicked his feet up on the stool and leaned back in the chair, his chin propped up arm as he read the first page of the book. as time passed, enoch hardly noticed how empty the library had become and the low lighting as lanterns were snuffed out. engrossed in the pages of the book he was so quick to dismiss at first glance, the boy found himself in the middle of the book when he looked up at the clock. a curse slipped past his lips as he marked his place in the book and leapt to his feet, it's almost curfew! i'll be lucky if i can make it back to the common room. enoch quickly gathered his homework, his quill pen, and the book into his satchel as he snuck out of the library, hoping to make as little noise as possible.

whatever hopes he had about making it back to the slytherin boy's dormitory before curfew had been dashed the moment he stood at the bottom of a staircase he wandered over to, believing it to be the way to the dungeons. instead, enoch found himself in what seemed like a maze of corridors and a tangle of staircases that mimicked an illusion painting he once saw in a gallery. the boy hugged his satchel close to his chest as he continued on his way, hoping that the dungeons weren't too far away. after a few minutes of fruitless searching, enoch found himself in the exact corridor he had been in just a moment prior. gritting his teeth together in frustration and thumbing the fabric of his cloak's sleeve nervously, the boy turned sharply on his heel. in the dimly lit corridor, enoch collided with another person...or what he hoped was another person. the collision sent the slytherin tumbling backwards, his backend scuffing the cold stone flooring. grimacing, enoch stood to his feet and brushed the dust from his cloak, ready to scold whomever he bumped into, even though it was almost entirely his fault. "hey! it's considered rude to sneak up on someone like that-" his hushed voice hissed at the person shrouded in darkness.

upon realizing he had bumped into a ravenclaw student who probably hadn't realized he was there as well, enoch extended a hand to the girl to help her up. relief washed over him as he recognized the young girl as a second year ravenclaw he had seen passing through the halls during his first day at Hogwarts. the slytherin's scowl as replaced with the crooked, mischievous grin of a shark, "sorry for bumpin' into ya like that, i didn't realize you were behind me. looks like we're in the same situation, eh? the name's enoch weiss. what's yours?" the slytherin inquired, kicking the romance novel which had fallen out of his satchel behind him and out of the ravenclaw's sight.

@Enoch Weiss
The sound of light quick feet echoed through the hallways as River made her way through the winding corridors of the castle. Her small hands gripped two large books, and her knuckles had turned even paler than her skin usually appeared. It was cold in the castle during winter, and even though she was wearing her woollen jumper, and her blue-detailed cloak over, she was nearly shivering. As River walked past a row of large windows, she glanced into them ad saw her reflection clear as if they were mirrors. The red, curly hair bouncing about her shoulders, her small frame and short height. She could even notice the very small red owl, securely perched on top of her right shoulder, hooting softly every ow and then. It had already become quite dark outside, and one could barely see the faint orange line over the trees of the forbidden forest, as the sun was about to set. As the darkness outside grew thicker, the corridors grew less and less crowded. Many students liked getting to the warm dormitories early, and the time moved closer to curfew with each second that passed.
The redhead was not going to head back just yet, she really needed to get the two books to the library before nightfall, and she was hoping to find a book to help her out with her transfiguration homework that she was struggling so desperately with. Transfiguration was for sure not her best subject. Actually, it was probably the one she had the most issues with, out of all her current classes.

The second year's feet moved even quicker though the halls now, she would probably make it to the library and back just in time before curfew, but only if she hurried.
Finally, she could see the entrance to the room filled with shelves upon shelves with knowledge, one of her favourite rooms within the entirety of Hogwarts. The library.
She quickly stepped inside, and put her two books down on the librarian's desk, before she carefully made her way into the large room with towering bookshelves from all sides. The ravenclaw knew exactly which isle to head to, as it was not her first time searching for a book on the art of transfiguration. River's blue and grey eyes scanned the shelves before her, but she could not find her intended book. After a bit, her eyes finally landed on the large book, with the blue binding detailed in silver. Her elegant fingers reached up, and carefully slipped it out of the row of books. She figured it must just have been misplaced or something, as it was not placed in its usual spot.
She pulled the book up to her chest and began heading out of the library, waiving quickly to the librarian as she passed. Man, the corridors really emptied out fast, she thought as she reached the stairs. Now, it was even darker than it had been earlier, and she could feel the cold creep up her spine once more. As she began walking the steps of the stairs, she glanced down to the watch on her wrist, Perfect, I'll still have some time to get back before curfew.
As River had gotten to the top of the staircase, the little owl on her shoulder hooted carefully, like usual. Before it, to the surprise of River, flew off though the corridors. The young ravenclaw watched with large eyes as the owl flutter away into the darkness. "Hoot!", she hissed quietly. "Hoot, you better come back here this instant!", she called in a hushed voice down the corridor, as she started up in a swift jog though the halls.

As she ran as quietly as she could, River had no chance to slow down before she was knocked over by something... or someone. "Ugh!", she had gripped the book tightly, and it was still clutched in her grasp as she found herself now on the cold marble floors.
"hey! it's considered rude to sneak up on someone like that-", she heard a voice speak up right after the crash. As she looked up, her eyes met a young slytherin boy. The young Dhampir stared up at the boy, as he stretched out a helping hand. She ignored his attempt to help, and got up on her own, book still in hand. Her cold eyes scanned the slytherin up and down, her eyes furrowed slightly as his face twisted into a grin. "sorry for bumpin' into ya like that, i didn't realize you were behind me. looks like we're in the same situation, eh? the name's enoch weiss. what's yours?". River looked at Enoch, a slightly annoyed look behind her grey eyes. "I'm River", she answered him too untrusting to give away her last name. "And to be clear, I hardly snuck up on you", she added, as she remembered how she'd literally ran down the hall chasing after her owl companion. "What on earth are you doing out this late anyway?", she asked, as her curiosity began tickling the back of her mind.
