Everlasting pathway Solo

Fyriel Starlingword”, it sounded through the Great Hall. Fyriel looked up and swallowed nervously. It was her turn, finally she would know if she was truly a Hufflepuff or if the Sorting Hat had something else in mind for her. She tapped on the shoulders of the students in front of her so she could slip through the group closing her in. They all gasped at her with a certain look in their eyes. As if they thought she was strange and different. Some had a slight panic in their eyes too, as if they were scared they would be called up next and they weren’t ready to hear their fate. She shuffled forward and managed to escape the cluster of students. While moving forward, Fyriel looked toward the stage where the Sorting Hat was waiting. The path to the front of the Great Hall appeared to grow longer with every step she took. She sped up her pace trying not to seem too nervous to the other students. While walking to her destination, she caught a glimpse of a young witch at the Gryffindor table. The girl reminded her of her younger sister Olivia. She tried to imagine it was she who sat there. She imagined her sister walking next to her to the stage and telling her not to overreact. “It’s not that big of a deal Fy, just stay calm and listen to what the Sorting Hat has to say. No matter what house you end up in, you’ll be a great student!”, she heard Olivia say in her daydream. Fyriel felt more comfortable now and that was just in time because she had reached the front of the Great Hall.
The Sorting Hat waited for Fyriel next to a small wooden stool. Unsure if she was supposed to sit down before anyone giving her permission, she hesitated to move toward it. She glanced at the Headmaster and he gave her a reassuring nod. She decided that was a sign to sit down. Her legs were twitching non-stop although she tried really hard to keep them still. She rubbed her hands on her upper legs to ignore they were feeling clammy. Fyriel saw so many students staring at her. She started to feel a bit dizzy from the nerves. It felt as if she was about to perform a solo dance choreography and she hadn’t rehearsed in a week. “Thank god that’s not the case”, she thought relieved. This was it, the moment she had waited for since she received her Hogwarts letter. The Sorting Hat was placed upon her head.

The Sorting Hat spoke:
Aah! I see a very talented young witch! With a certain passion for helping those in need. You have the wit and resourcefulness to be in SLYTHERIN... but leadership and determination are not your forte... So that’s no match for you.
Fyriel outed a relieved sigh, she had nothing against Slytherins and had a certain fondness for their House, but she desperately wanted to be in Hufflepuff.
The Sorting Hat continued:
Hmm I see a spirit who is true and loyal... a spark of courage and curiosity that could cause trouble in some cases... but most off all I see virtue, fairness and sympathy... HA! If I were to argue with myself, I would have to agree! However, as I answer only to myself! I sort you in…
HUFFLEPUFF!”
Fyriel was so excited; she almost hopped off the stool. She rapidly clapped her hands and had a grin from one ear to the other! “How wonderful, this feels like a dream come true!” she thanked the Sorting Hat. He replied, “I only said the truth and a Hufflepuff is who you are in heart and soul.
Fyriel jumped off stage and had to contain herself not to skip to the Hufflepuff table. She could not have been happier. All the nerves she had before were instantly vanished and she had left her thoughts already. Fyriel couldn’t wait to send an owl to her family to tell them the great news.
