Interacting with @Desdemona O'Sullivan

After an engaging Potions class, Thomas sat for a moment as the boy next to him (and most folks in the class) began packing up. Often, after a particularly rigorous lecture, the boy needed some time for all of its content to fully sink in. As a result, he was often one of the last few students to leave the room. Belatedly, he began cleaning up his materials, occasionally pausing to double check his notes from that day's lesson. Potions was remarkably similar in principle to muggle chemistry, a course of study he'd been excited to begin before he was whisked away to Hogwarts. The same academic passion he held prior to his discovery of his wizardry he carried into his new coursework. Throughout most lectures he was prone to asking many questions, though he always managed to not seem stupid as he did so. Despite being raised practically as a muggle, the extensive extracurricular studying he'd done for his classes almost made him pass as a pure-blood.

In short, Thomas was a nerd. A nerd with high standards for his own academic success.

Some onlookers may have seen him as an elitist. The assessment wasn't far off, and honestly who could blame them for thinking so? His shyness manifested in how he avoided conversation at all costs in the classroom. When anyone, even his partner or his friends, asked for help, he was poor at explaining and easily frustrated when they didn't pick up on it right away. Perhaps most damning was the confidence he seemed to exude: all of his words were measured and he wasn't one to hesitate even slightly in an academic context. Plus, he always seemed to have a smile on his face when answering the Professor's questions. Who even acted like that?

Despite being a fairly infuriating individual to interact with in the classroom, Tommy was totally oblivious to his habits. He hummed quietly to himself as he packed up his things, paying little attention to his surroundings.

As per Desdemona's usual routine, she'd always be one of the last students to leave. She didn't like any attention being brought to her so she figured it was best to move when no-one would notice her. That's what it would usually be like.  Except, in this particular class there would always be a Ravenclaw who'd still be there a little longer than Des liked.
She'd noticed him in the other classes she had with Ravenclaw's and he'd sometimes sit a little longer on those too but it happened especially often in her potions class.

Although potions and herbology were by far her favourite classes they were also the most attention-grabbing ones. A single mistake and the entire class would be aware. She'd always hide away from the teacher as much as she could so she'd be the least likely person to be called up for demonstration. So far, her plan had worked.

Except, today it hadn't. Today Desdemona had been unlucky enough to be called on by the potions professor. Her anxiety had gone through the roof and she had managed to knock down a particularly explosive ingredient in the professor's cauldron. Whilst everyone else had winced or giggled this very particular Ravenclaw had had a very snarky remark about the situation. This very particular Ravenclaw was someone Des never ever wanted to be noticed by again but he was sat there and she was in a hurry.
She knew she would have to be the first one to leave if she wanted to be in time for her dorm's book club.

Des took a deep breath and packed away her stuff as quickly and quietly as she could. She figured she could quietly run past the boy without him noticing her. He seemed to be pretty concentrated on looking over his notes from the lecture.

1, 2, 3, GO!

Next thing she knew she was tripping over a rogue flask. A loud yelp and the sound of broken glass followed next.

The clash of glass breaking brought Thomas out of his daydream almost immediately. Nearly dropping his own things as he was startled, the boy looked over to the scene on the other side of the room. A look of confusion was plastered across his face, though it was almost immediately masked. While typically one to keep his head down and mind his own business, this particular circumstance piqued his interest. Well, interest was probably the wrong word. In truth, he didn't want to seem like a total degenerate, and if the Professor walked in on him leaving the scene of the crime while someone else was left to sweep up, that'd almost certainly make him seem lazy.

So, against Thomas' better judgment, the boy walked over to Desdemona and began wordlessly attempting to pick up the larger pieces of glass without cutting himself. After gathering as much as he could hold without hurting his hands, the young wizard looked at the girl and asked, probably belatedly by her standards, "Hey, are you alright?" Rather than resuming what he was doing immediately he paused, waiting on her answer. There was a look of concern on his face, though it wasn't mirrored in his flat tone and closed off body language.
