James stood in the cold evening air, in the middle of a dark abandoned playground. He was waiting. He was waiting.
James made his way to a park bench, still in the middle of the dark abandoned playground. He was waiting. He was waiting.
James pulled his coat tighter around him, attempting to shelter more against the cold wind. He was waiting. He was waiting.
Shaking his head, James cleared his mind of the third-person point of view poetry that was running through his head. He had almost forgotten why he was here. He was from California, all the way across the world, almost, it seemed. The only reason he was here, was because of something that had happened in the past week… something that he was still having trouble believing.
He had waited his whole life for something magical, something special to happen. He had hardly believed it when it had finally come. James had received a letter from an owl. That was the start of his magical exposure. The letter lead him to question his parents to see if they knew anything about this school called “Hogwarts”.
Since then, James had found himself in London, in Europe! James had been all over the United States, but never out of it. He had been on the border of Canada, at Niagara Falls, and he had been to Mexico when he was a baby, but to him, that really didn’t count because he couldn’t remember it. And if the trip to Mexico did count, James would revise his statement saying he had never been outside of the continent of North America.
James was in London, and had just spent the day in this place called Diagon Alley, and it was the most magical experience he had ever had. Diagon Alley was some sort of magical shopping complex, and now, after visiting it, James had possession of a wand (although he didn’t know how to use it) and back in the hotel with his parents, several magic books, an owl, and some sorts of potion supplies.
James’ thoughts were interrupted by a small movement out of the corner of his eye, and for a moment, he felt fear gripping at his chest.

ERI often went to this abandoned playground to gather her thoughts or just take a walk. Her aunt trusted her to protect herself. She had her wand stowed in the pocket of her fluffy white coat that also covered her hair with a white hood.

She seemed to be distracted since she was reading and walking. She sat down on the edge of the merry go round reading. Her book was a big leather back book with golden lettering. The lettering read Transfiguration.
She smiled reading deeply into her book completely unaware of her company. She looked up from her book.

Looking at the sky and watching the clouds move she sighed. She looked back down to her book and scanned over the pages she had read at least ten times. She seemed so distracted and with no care in the world.

She flipped through the pages reading quickly. Smiling she watched the clouds again. They seemed to float away like all her cares. She was so distracted she didn't notice the other boy looking at her.

She closed the book and traced the lettering with her finger deep in her thoughts. She frowned wiping a smudge off of the book.

James had a slightly prolonged moment where he was afraid that there really was some sort of danger only about fifteen feet away from him. It wasn't until he squinted in the darkness, his only light being the dim streetlights dotting the park, that he saw that there was no dangerous creature or magical monster. All it was was another person. Whoever was sitting a short distance away from James was doing so on the edge of the merry-go-round, covered with a fluffy white coat and their face was concealed by the fluffy hood. James could see that they were busy reading a book. James was too far away and it was too dark for him to see what the book was, but he could see that it was big, heavy, and it looked like leather, which indicated to James that this book was no ordinary one, and by his logic, the person he saw in front of him was not normal either. Maybe he had finally met another witch or wizard! He honestly doubted it, with his luck, but he took a deep breath and stood up, approaching the strange person. When he was a normal talking distance away from him, or her, he softly cleared his throat.
"Excuse me?" he simply prompted.

She was still reading her book. She flipped through the pages when she heard someone clear their throat. She sighed she can't believe she was completely unaware of their presence. She heard the person say excuse me and she looked up.

It was a boy her age that she had never met before. Maybe he was a wizard she would find out later. She continued to study him. "Yes."She smiled. She  looked at him with her green eyes. She wondered who he was. She realized she forgot to say her name. She closed the book, picked it up, and walked over to him. She extended her hand for him to shake. "Hi I'm Windstone, Eri Windstone. Are you visiting London so you can attend Hogwarts?" She asked genuinely. Then she sighed what if he was a muggle. He wouldn't know what she was talking about.

She smiled at him wondering if he was a wizard. She had to magical gifts I guess thats what they are. One she can bend liquid, two she could tell people's emotions. She looked at him trying to read his emotions. She couldn't she could just tell he was excited about something. Maybe he would say.

James breathed out a sigh of relief.“Oh, okay… so you’re a witch? That’s good, that’s good…” he muttered.James took Eri’s outstretched hand and shook it. “I’m James. Er, James Lachoneus. And yeah, I’m here for Hogwarts. I just finished up in Diagon Alley today. I live in California, so London, and even Europe are completely new to me! All this magic is new to me too, though, because I was raised Muggle.” James explained. Then, he suddenly feel silent.“Oh, uh, I tend to talk way too much, so sorry about it. You can just stop me when I do that…” James told her.It was after James stopped talking and slowed down that he got a proper look at the girl, Eri, that he was talking to.First thing he noticed were her green eyes… and her brown hair. She was about 4 feet, maybe a little taller, so about the same height as James, but just a little shorter than him.James also managed to notice a golden locket that she was wearing. Carved onto it was a beautifully designed tree. James thought it looked very pretty on her.“I like your locket, by the way.” James said, trying to make less awkward conversation.

"Thank you. My aunt gave it to me." She paused. "If you would like I could help you understand the magic stuff or at least help you out with anything you need. By the way I don't judge people on their heritage. I am a witch by the way. I don't think you talk so much." She smiled and looked at him. She stood up and walked over to him."I hope I could be some help to you if you need it." She thought he was nice to say something about her locket. She smiled at him.

She saw looked up at the sky and watched the clouds it looked like it was a very sunny day. She smiled and looked back down. She couldn't wait for him to make it to Hogwarts to be amazed. She wanted to share everything she could about the wizarding world to him. She thought he would be so amazed about everything. "What are you most excited about? The magic? Going to Hogwarts? Going to school with others like you and me? Its going to be so exciting. Sorry I get exciting sharing things about the wizarding life." Her face turned red and she hope he didn't realize she was embarrassed.

(Lol, 1: You had already stood up and walked over, and 2: It’s pretty much night time right now.)

"Thank you. My aunt gave it to me." She paused. "If you would like I could help you understand the magic stuff or at least help you out with anything you need. By the way I don't judge people on their heritage. I am a witch by the way. I don't think you talk so much." Eri said. “I hope I could be some help to you if you need it.” she added.
"What are you most excited about? The magic? Going to Hogwarts? Going to school with others like you and me? Its going to be so exciting. Sorry I get exciting sharing things about the wizarding life."
James nodded, smiling.
“That’s okay, and thanks for the offer!” James spoke as he pulled his wand out of his pocket. It was dark out, and he didn’t see anyone else around, so he figured it was safe enough, and no Muggles would see. Even if they did, they would most likely think that he was just some weird teenager holding a strange stick. “Yeah, the only thing I know how to do with this is turn the wandmaker’s hair yellow, which I accidentally did, and I honestly don’t know how to replicate it.”
Before sounding like a crazy person, he continued.
“Oh, but he fixed it! His hair, I mean. Yeah, he fixed it, and he just thought it was funny. I did too, and I pointed out that if he kept it, we would have matching hair. We laughed at that…” James trailed off.
“I don’t know much about what there is, so I guess I’m most excited about the magic in general. I always did magic tricks, uh, Muggle magic tricks, before, so I’m really excited to see REAL magic!”

She smiled and pulled her wand our. "Lumos" The tip of her wand lit up. "Thats fine. I broke a vase with a wand before he found this wand." She used the wand as a light scource for the two of them. "So where are your parents or are you staying by yourself?" She asked wondering if his parents accepted his magic side. Some muggle families did some didn't. That was just sad. Seeing families get split due to magic. Horrible, magic was a great thing not one to split families apart. She hoped he had a nice. It was getting dark.

She smiled and breathed it was getting dark and she was getting tired. She smiled and looked around. "I can't wait for Hogwarts. Its going to be amazing! Its going to be a great learning experienve. I heard the library there is huge and has a lot of books. I really want to read all of them" She smiled. "Which house do you want to be in? I could either be Ravenclaw or Slytherin." She walks to the bench and motions for him to follow and she sits down. She really can't hold in her excitement for the school.

As soon as Eri whispered the strange word, which, if James heard correctly, was “Lumos”, the end of her wand lit up with a dazzling beautiful light that allowed James to see her face more clearly. James’ first thought was nice, but his mind did a sort of reflexive snap and the word changed to:
“Cuuuute?”
“So, where are you parents or are you staying by yourself?” she asked.
“Oh, well, I’m here in London with my parents, but I’m here at this park, right now, by myself. My parents… they… they’re off doing something, and I felt like looking around a bit… outside of the hotel.” James replied.
“I’m actually mixed blood. My mom was a witch and my dad was a Muggle. Professional Muggle, might be more accurate. He- he tolerates magic. Sort of… it’s… well, nevermind.” James finished.
James decided to answer the other things she said instead of continuing with what he wasnot going to say.
“You like books? So do I!” James exclaimed, excited that they had something in common other than being magical and attending Hogwarts. “That library sounds really cool! I do think I’ll be in Hufflepuff, and I kinda hope so, too. My mom was a Hufflepuff, well, I mean… she- oh, nevermind.”
It was then that James noticed Eri motioning for him to sit next to her on the park bench. It took a few seconds for James to realize she was actually inviting him to sit with her, before James took his place next to her on the bench.
“It’s kinda cold out here…” James observed as they sat there in the night, aided by the light from Eri’s wand.

She smiled at him. So his mom was a hufflepuff. Okay so he wasn't a muggle born a half-blood to be precise. "I want to go to Ravenclaw but I could also be slytherin. Though Slytherin has a bad reputation it isn't a bad house." She says. "I hope you enjoy Hogwarts. It sounds very amazing in my opinion." She smiles and takes a minute to think wanting to hear what he thinks about Hogwarts. "What class are you most excited for? I am excited for transfiguration." She asks softly not wanting to sound to excited about going to Hogwarts.

As she waits for his answer she sits silently in the darkness. She knows it is getting dark but her Aunt doesn't mind het staying out late. Its not like the abandoned play ground is five miles away from home. It really is just a five minute walk to her aunts house.

She debates over asking if he needs to go home but if he came out here late his parents probably don't care.

She looks around the abandoned playground. They were still alone. She thougt she had heard something but it was probably her imagination or the wind. She continues to think.
