Another adventure to the grounds it was, Gem supposed. He'd had a pretty shite week, figured that taking a deep breath would do him some good. He'd even considered a good ole' ciggie, but that didn't seem like such a good idea. He'd been chuffing at his pack of Dunhills like a chimney, all to stop the shaking in his fingers, the clamminess in his hands, to get his brain to function properly.

His sneakers hit the cobblestone floors rather quietly, since he didn't really pick up his feet. He reckoned he'd fall face-forwards if he kept that up, that's what his nan always said. He sighed loudly, feeling the beginnings of a headache start to creep up in the very back of his mind. He stopped, practicing the deep breaths Leland had taught him about. One, two, three, four, inhale... one two three for, exhale. One, two th--

"What the h-" Gem blinked back, rubbing his face where the piece of paper hit his forehead, staring at it on the ground, right at his feet. Just as he was about to pick it up, a gust of wind had swept it away, carrying it the opposite direction he'd come in. For whatever reason, he found himself chasing the letter down the path, gripping at the air that so carefully whisked it away. When the wind stopped, he snatched the letter up greedily, staring at it with his face tight and frustrated.

On the back, it seemed like it was addressed to no one - for you, it said. He chewed the side of his cheek, a morbid curiosity crawling up his back, into the tips of his fingers as he pulled it open, sliding the parchment out carefully. As his eyes scanned the neat handwriting, he realized that this had no proper receiver, it went out to anyone willing to have it down. In a hurried motion, he stuffed the parchment into his pocket and fled up to the Ravenclaw Dormitory, feeling the anticipation of a new... thing, right in his chest.

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.
