The Ruins:
Deep in the Woods of Darkness there lies a castle in ruins. The people that live around this dreaded place just call it "The Ruins". Once, the castle portrayed glory and splendor. The place was destroyed in what looks like a massive battle. The grand palace resembled a quintessential fairy-tale palace before it was devastated. Many turrets had collapsed and only one still stood. The large wall that had once surrounded the edifice had crumbled in the passage of time. Even though the castle appeared to be destroyed decades ago- loot still covers the place.
The few rooms that remained- beside the tower- is the grand hall in the center of the building, a large storage room, a ballroom, and a bedroom. The rest of the mess is impossible to navigate. All of the rooms have large scorch marks, fractures like a building caught in an earthquake, and cannonball holes.
The grand hall is set up as you would expect it to be for a feast. Plates and goblets were once there, but now scavengers- called "The Rouges" have picked that room clean. A chandler hangs haphazardly ready to fall on the next person to walk under it. No skeletons are present, but it seems that people left in a rush.
A large storage room is the only room that is intact on the second floor. It is full from top to bottom with various sacks, boxes, and crates. The room was once organized, but now is a jumble of mess where nothing could be easily found.
The ballroom is open and completely intact. Nothing obstructs it and no marks or cracks are on the walls. Even the Rouges that scour the Ruin stay far away from that room. There are enough ghost stories to keep any sane person far away from it. Even the instruments in the room are set up ready to play.
The House:
The main characters live in a quant house in the center of Washington state. Large mountains surround their 3 acre estate. The rest of humanity lives a 30 minute drive from them. The house is two stories with a large garden and greenhouse. The house has five rooms: a living/dining room, kitchen, bathroom, master bedroom, and other bedroom.
Upon entering the house, the home has an open feeling with high ceilings, hard-wood floors, and lightly colored painted walls.
The Kitchen is to your immediate left and the living/dining room is to your right. The kitchen is worn down and is clean despite it's bad look. The living/dining room is much cleaner and has black-out curtains drawn back to reveal large floor to ceiling windows that look over the valley below. There is a large table set against one wall and large leather couches on the opposite side. The wood floors are covered by a woven rug passed down for many generations.
As you go down the hall past the first two rooms- there lies a large bathroom (the only in the house); with a shower, and the stairwell. The bathroom is always clean- as the mother of the household is picky about the state of her bathrooms. The stairwell however is the realm of the family cat. Her long orange fur covers the carpeted stairs that were once colored black- and are now peach.
