Promise
As the pale sun hits his face, Virgil lays back against the grass, not caring about his black robes in the slightest. All his belongings are scattered around him and he holds a crumpled letter close to his chest. His dark eyes find it difficult to sustain the staring contest against the sun, so he decides to analyze the dancing clouds in the sky, instead. In a dull gray tone, the clouds blend with the rest of the gray expanse.
The weather seems to be growing colder as the seconds go by. It's autumn — there's no vibrant orange, and fiery red leaves, though. Only dark brown and moss green, mixed with the boring gray, like a rainy spring evening and a winter sun. Virgil's sure that he'll meet the grounds covered in snow soon enough. The cold wind pierces through his clothing, but he tries to ignore it. He's sure his skin looks paler than usual.
There aren't many students outside, Virgil noted once he decided to get out of the castle. Staying inside those walls was starting to bore him, and he's still not comfortable enough to just stick around the Slytherin common room. It's around 2 p.m. Most of the students are probably catching up with their friends in the common rooms or walking around the immense castle. He's glad that he can be alone for some more.
He opens the letter above his face, using it to protect himself from the sun.
Virgil lowers his arms, crossing it in front of his stomach, eyes lazily blinking to the clouds. One of them looks like a cat holding a flower. He sighs, relaxing under the weak sunlight and closes his eyes for a second. There's a weak smile on his face. It takes less than a minute for him to fall asleep..."Virgil,
Dude. I gotta say, you always manage to impress me with your complete lack of social skills. How do you do it? Do you run away when people approach you? Is that it? It's been weeks and you're telling me you've only interacted with one person... Man.
In all seriousness, though, I know it's hard for you to make friends and talk to others and I totally get it. You're scared and you're an awkward mess. But come on now, this isn't doing you any good. You have to try just a little harder. You said Sarah isn't talking to you (she's been acting weird all summer, so don't overthink this, alright? It's not you! I'll write to her later), and being alone isn't nice. I'm sure there are a lot of new students that don't have friends either! You just have to find them and befriend them with your Virgil charm.
And I know what you're doing right now. You're crunching your face that way you do whenever I say something you find embarrassing. Yeah, it's cheesy (I sound a whole lot like Mum), but it's true. You're great, dude. (No, I'm not saying this because you're my cousin). So, stop being so tense about everything and do your best, alright? (Promise me you'll try and write to me when you get a friend. Not a best friend, though! I'm number 1!)
Yes, Mihyung's still around. Haven't seen him much because I had to go to school, but Dad said they went out together last Saturday. I think he's coming to the weekly Sunday lunch with the rest of the family, which is nice, I guess. Why didn't you just ask your mum?
Yes, I am a little better. Unfortunately. (Yes, unfortunately!) My wrist isn't broken anymore, which sucks because now I have to do all my homework. Sabrina isn't even letting me copy hers. She says I'm lazy. A bad friend, indeed. Now that I think about it, you two would get along really well! She loves muggle books and she can be a bit of nerd, just like you. Remind me to invite her to spend a few days with us this year, ok?
Take care,
Trent Armitage."
