Just Look Away PV Eris Fawley

These days, Rosie found herself scared to walk alone.

She felt like a baby for it, but could she really blame herself? (Yes, she could, but for a few other reasons.) Rosie had never been beaten up, or even yelled at like that. She had taken multiple opportunities to walk to classes with a friend of hers. Quinn, Reid, Rhea, none of them knew what had happened yet. At least Rosie didn't think so. She knew if Quinn or Reid found out in particular, she couldn't control their temper. (More specifically Quinn, that man could throw five people out a window at once.)

But here she was, walking down the hall towards her common room. She was only a little shaky, but her face didn't show that. Rosie was the ultimate master at hiding her internal expressions. Not because of some emo stuff, but just because it was easy. Smiling was a reflex, and her resting face wasn't necessarily angry or sad. She simply walked as she always did, hopping on the stone with one foot occasionally. It was a way to pass the time. It felt like a long walk to the commons, sometimes.

But as she did, her mind wandered. To what Eris said. Personally, she thought everything she had said wasn't true. First of all, she wasn't even aware of her being burnt. Second of all, Rosie didn't support violence. She didn't support students attacking other students. Anyone attacking someone else, for that matter. Rosie supported the truth. And the truth was, it wasn't Ben's fault. He was manipulated, he was a puppet. She just wanted people to attack the right person. Not the person behind the mask, the person behind the glove.

But oh well, Rosie was in the wrong anyway, right? She always was, apparently.

Not the point, she wasn't bitter, no! But the comment that stung the most was, 'you deserve to be hurt'. That stopped Rosie in her tracks, her heart slowly sinking. She didn't think she ever deserved to be hurt, nobody did. Not Eris, either. She stared at the ground for a moment and sighed, continuing to walk on slowly. She had been thinking about it for a while. Rosie wasn't a bad person, right? She wasn't.

"I'm not." Rosie mumbled, turning the corner. She put her hands in her robe pockets and fell silent, unaware a certain someone was about to approach.

Walking alone essentially was the most depressing thing to ever exist. It gave Eris time for her mind to wander, and wandering thoughts were never ideal. Not when there was so much to think about, and not all thoughts were welcome. Silence often led to prolonged periods of dwelling upon her thoughts and emotions, which was a slippery slope even on the best of days.

So, to preserve what little integrity left in Eris’s mind and eliminate any of her troubling thoughts, Eris had taken to finding ways to distract herself while she walked alone. First had been chucking her Ever-bashing Boomerang at the heads of unsuspecting statues. That had quickly gotten boring, however. And, after hearing approximately twelve lectures from neighbouring paintings about respecting the castle, Eris had thrown her Boomerang at a particularly annoying portrait of an old auror and gotten it lodged in the fabric of the painting. No more boomerang for Eris, then.

So, Eris had taken up singing.

It wasn’t like anyone was ever going to hear. When she walked alone, it was only because nobody was around. So why not entertain herself in a way that would not get her in trouble with the staff of the school? There was nothing bad about singing, but hitting statues with boomerangs was probably not allowed. Knowing how stupid the staff of Hogwarts were, Eris was willing to bet a sickle or two that there was a rule about not hurting statues. (But of course, no rules about anything important.)

Eris wasn’t very good at singing. Her voice was mediocre at best. It wasn’t particularly horrid but wasn’t innately lovely either. It just was. A little bit more on the dreamy and dreary side, there was not a lot of structure to her singing. But, Eris tried her best. That was, at least, until she tried to hit a lower note. Having a decently high-pitched voice, as she was yet to go through puberty, anytime she tried to sing in a lower pitch, Eris sounded like a troll or a pubescent boy going through the motions with voice cracks.

So, naturally, she was singing in a lower pitch as she ventured through the hallways. She was completely oblivious to her surroundings, spinning and dancing around as she walked. The song she was singing required very high energy and Eris was willing to give said energy towards singing and dancing. It was far better than focusing on the recent events of the castle.

“Can you dance like a hippogriff?” Eris warbed along, jumping up into the air. Attempting to spin while she jumped, doing so engulfed much of her attention. So much of her attention, in fact, that Eris did not notice Rosie Parker. The situation certainly would have been different if she did notice Rosie.

Because Rosie was rounding a corner and Eris was currently also rounding the corner while screlting her heart out, it was almost inevitable that Eris would slam into her. As Eris leapt up into the air to attempt to spin again, she kept singing along. “Na na na na-” She slammed violently into Rosie, interrupting the song. “AHH! SHIT.” The redhead turned around, face just as crimson as her hair in colouration.

“Uh, you never saw anything! So-” Eris started to say sorry, but seeing who she had slammed into, choked on her words comically. Red face turning even redder, Eris crossed her arms.Oh. Eris’s eyes narrowed, worry that Rosie would use Eris’s horrible singing against her turning her face even redder.
