Setting

It is the year 004 of the New Era. Four wars have been fought within the past century, and so much of humanity had been destroyed that the world has begun to start over, beginning with the tiny remnants of the surviving countries. Some areas that have been fought over using nuclear weapons are too dangerous to touch, so those are left barren while life is returned to other sectors of the world.
There are now six countries on Earth and two on the Moon, where colonisation had taken place, led by those who wished to get away from the warring Earth. The Columbian monarchy now reigns over most of what had been South America as well as three colonies on Antarctica. Its resources are the most plentiful of all the countries, and it is a very rich one although it has very few cities. Columbia trades mostly in fine silks and emeralds, but they also have an abundance of wood and food. Columbia’s territory is the least touched by the wars, for what has faded away was gone long before now.
The American Federation has taken control of both the former United States and Canada, but Mexico is nearly completely underwater by now, and what is left of it belongs to rogues. Out of 60 sectors, only about half of them are inhabitable, fit for the rich. The rest are used for the labour done by the poor. Those sectors are full of factories building electronic devices for those in higher, wealthier sectors closer to the northern capital, Vancouver. There is also a southern capital, but it is sparsely populated. It was called Atlantia, in the southeastern area of what used to be the United States of America.
The area that has taken the worst blow was what used to be Russia. It is barren wintry wasteland now, and the rest of Asia has thrived as New Asia, the capital being Seoul. This is the other technology industry, and it’s thriving much more than the American Federation. While the technology sectors in America are slowly polluting themselves due to receiving no help from those in better conditions, New Asia is a Democracy - the people rule. They work together to refine the trade that they have been working on for quite a long time, and they are now the universal provider of WiFi, electricity, and technological devices. Here in New Asia one can see cyborgs, androids, and the newest scientific discoveries.
Africa has turned into a wildlife reserve. What once was a desert has now been rained upon, and now it is difficult to look upon a single hectare of land in Africa without seeing life. Even though the majority of the other countries are now seen as barren, the wildlife ripped away from them, Africa has been largely untouched. Here reside the big cats that were once thought to be extinct or near extinction. Some groups of scientists have set up small biodomes to study the animals here, dig up fossilised remains of extinct species, and try recreating those that are long gone. Hunting, while still legal in the American Federation and Columbia, is completely outlawed in Africa, and the penalty for killing a single animal is death - what goes around comes around.
Most of Europe has been frozen over, but a small bit of land near the Mediterannean is still inhabitable. This 11,000-kilometre long stretch of land is rich and fertile, and it is used by many farmers. This place has been named Harmonia, after a Greek goddess, and has a monarchy. It’s not at all a rural country, but it’s made up of a great amount of farmland with skyscrapers dotting the horizon. The central area of Harmonia is all fertile soil, but the outer ring is all urban cities and skyscrapers, surrounded by a wall. The Mediterannean Sea is no longer used for anything, and it is difficult to find water travel except from the American Federation to Columbia and back, and most oceans are polluted by gasoline and war materials.
The small continent that used to be known as Australia has shrunk and is now very chilly. The people of Earth now know this island as Alria, and it is the place that those sick of the heat will travel to during the summer - if they can afford it. Even though sea travel is very outdated and almost impossible to use, air travel has become very cheap and unreliable. Most people use spaceships now, either in the Earth’s atmosphere to transfer things from landing pad to landing pad, or through interplanetary travelling. Ships, however, cost quite a lot to keep a hold of, and only rich elitists can manage to buy them.
Ships are what enable travel to the Moon, which is known as many different things by its inhabitants. The first country to send people to colonise on the moon was the UK, but many of the others soon followed. The moon, now called Rembulan, has plenty of racial diversity, but their resources have been dwindling. A group of elite citizens have decided that in order to keep production up at a high level, they must begin raiding Earth.
All the while, the dark side of the moon - known as Tenebris Umbra, has been quietly holding all that Rembulan could wish for. Tenebris has areas that are capable of sustaining life without too many resources from Earth. The people of Tenebris are used to nothing more than the basic needs of life. But their side of the planet has become almost as lush as Earthen Columbia. This is unbeknownst to the people of Rembulan, and their monarchy is too terrified of the never-ending darkness to venture out into the other side, where humankind has evolved.
Technology is what has forwarded society to this level. Humans, once living in caves, have twisted and warped the world into just what they wanted it to be - an alliance and a rift, a paradox in itself. Something that never could have been.
But all the same, something that is.
