As Gem had slowly been becoming more aware of changes happening to his brain chemistry, his body, and the general way he thought, he'd been spending a lot of time alone to think about it. He wasn't at all lonely, and while he'd met some amazing people over the course of his time spent at Hogwarts, he felt just a little bit sad. Blueish.

The Great Lake was always a good place to collect your thoughts, and the water was always very good company. If you spoke to it, it had a very simple response; nothing. Soothing sounds, but not a single word. Nothing was better than empty words, and the water had nothing pointless to say. It was just there, making the dirt it touched a bit darker, nothing more, nothing less. Water was consistent, maybe that's why Gem liked it so much.

He was alone, again. He was smoking again, the second one today, but he felt a bit stressed - transfiguration homework had him all jumbled up and he almost cried because he didn't know the definition for a word. Right now, he was puffing on his cigarette and looking through the dictionary for something he would be able to say and grin about. His eyes landed on one word in particular;
lackadaisical
/lakəˈdāzək(ə)l/
adj.
Lacking enthusiasm and determination; carelessly lazy.
"Lackadaisical," He muttered, feeling the ends of his lips turn up at the pronunciation, his blem twitching up a little bit with his mouth. He liked that word a lot, he just couldn't wait to use it. Lackadaisical. That word and its definition killed him. So much so he almost laughed aloud, but he didn't. He was just very amused. He wondered how it would go if someone stumbled on him staring at a dictionary, laughing his bum off about some stupid word that was a synonym for lazy.

How stupid, he thought, how stupid, but how fun.

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

It wasn’t long before Leo felt his head drop a little. He jolted upright and blinked a few times. He was doing it again. Spending too much time on his Herbology homework, Leo was extremely tired and ready to fall asleep. Rubbing his face gently, Leo closed his books and stood up from his seat. Maybe some fresh air would do him good.

Having left his books on his bed, Leo exited the Gryffindor common room and made his way down the moving staircase, past a group of first year Slytherins he accidentally bumped into and outside, taking in the fresh air as it hit his face. This was his favourite part about being outdoors. The fresh air would hit his nose, the smell of fresh grass hitting him instantly. It was a sort of high. He’d always enjoyed the outdoors, even back at home. He would spend hours reading in the garden either laying on the grass or with his back perched up against a tree.

As Leo made his way towards the Great Lake, he failed to notice two of the Slytherin students he’d bumped into earlier. One of them hurried in front of him, stopping him in his tracks. “Hey,” the boy chimed “you bumped into me and made my books fall.” Leo was slightly confused but shrugged. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.” As Leo took a step forward, the boy stopped him. “You better be. I don’t like people who bump me.” With that, the boy shoved Leo, making him fall onto the ground before walking away with his friend. Leo managed to bite his lip as his body hit the ground, cutting it. He watched as the two boys walked away, standing up and brushing the bits of grass that stuck onto his robes. Sighing to himself softly, Leo shook his head and continued to make his way to the lake.

The lake. It was a beautiful place. The way the water was always calm, the light breeze that followed, it was the most peaceful place at Hogwarts. Leo had been here once already a few weeks ago. He’s decided to eat his lunch by the water while reading through his Potions homework. Taking his robe off and rolling his sleeves up, Leo watched the water for a moment before turning to place his robe down. He looked up and saw a boy, reading a dictionary? He tilted his head slightly but decided not to question it. He simply gave the boy a small smile before sitting on top of a rock, pulling his legs into his chest as he wrapped his arms around them. “This place…” he began, his eyes on the water, “…is so peaceful.”

Gem hadn't even taken much attention to his surroundings, which would be a very likely cause of death someday. He didn't want to think about his death, but it seemed like something that would happen if he didn't start looking around himself when he heard small noises.

This, however, was not taken into action until after he heard someone's voice right beside him. Just the very first word had made his spine stick straight up, his eyes all wide. He'd've thrown his dictionary if he wasn't careful enough. Ligyrophobia was the deathly fear of loud noises.

"Holy shit! Fook! You scared the piss out ov me, mate!" He wheezed, setting a hand over his heart, letting a loud exhale out when he'd caught his breath. He didn't really need to, but he felt the small need to capitalize on the fact that he had been spooked by this kid. He felt kind of bad, now that he realized all this kid really wanted was to find a serene place to sit and study. He quieted down, put his guard down, quit all the acts and drama he'd originally had, and curled up.

He sat criss-cross, the book splayed between his legs. He took a second long moment to look the boy nearby up and down - dirty blonde, greenish blue eyes, light skin - he was cute. As if Gem needed another reason to question his very own self all over again. Boys were driving him crazy as of late, and he wasn't sure if it was just him, or if it was the fact he was an idiot and that his hormones were going berserk. He decided he'd try and make himself seem like a normal person and speak - apologize, maybe?

"Aye, sorry- sorry about yelling, mate. I joost- ya startled me a bit there." He offered a kind smile, extending his arm out with an open palm for a handshake. "I'm Gem. Gem Stuart, who're you, laa?" He tilted his head, trying to avoid the fact that he was a bit flustered - embarrassed - about the previous events. He always acted like such an idiot whenever someone cute was around, why should he think now would be any different? He wanted to slam his head in with a dictionary until he became a vegetable for that. He couldn't believe he was allowed to breathe oxygen and walk the earth when he acted like this.

There he went, being all dramatic again.

"The water is real pretty, innit? I come down 'ere a lot. Helps me clear me head out." So much for that.
