A New Furry Friend Pet Finished

Dan took a deep breath and walked inside Magical Menagerie. His parents had allowed him to purchase and keep a new pet friend, whatever he wanted. Dan however, was nervous. He'd never made a purchase this big before. He was also plagued with a bit of worry. What if his new pet didn't like him? Dan didn't think he'd be able to handle that kind of disappointment and sadness. Though, his mom and dad assured him that that was not possible. If you properly cared for your pet and spent time with it, it will always grow to love you.
He still didn't even know what he was going to get. Last year, he saw that his friend Andy already had a pet rat.

"Well hello young man. How do you do?"
Dan was snapped out of his thoughts by the voice of an old man. Dan looked up and saw his smiling face, followed soon by a woman, assumedly his wife. Dan caught the scent of sugar cookies from her.
"Looking for a new friend?"
"Y-yeah... But I'm not sure what to pick..."
"Well, look around! I'm sure you'll find something to catch your eye!"

Dan nodded and started to look around the shop. He stopped and looked at many of the owls. They all looked cool and pretty, and the Eastern Screech Owl was cute. But, Dan was no enormous fan of birds. He always got REALLY tense whenever his uncle's pet Cockatiel would fly and land on his shoulder. He didn't know why, but he HATED that. And if he wouldn't be able to shower his pet with genuine love, Dan did not want it. A pity though, He did have a cool picture in his head of him standing with a cool owl on his shoulder. Oh well.

Dan walked right past the rats. On the list of things that were not happening, that was definitely not happening. Rats may make good pets for some, but not for Dan. Plus, he was terrified of losing his pet, and he'd never find a lost rat.

He was almost equally not interested in the toads, though a couple looked pretty cool.

That was when he saw them. The kitties. So many different kinds, each one so pretty and adorable. He could hear the Siamese meowing. And meowing. And not stopping. Ever. As much as he pictured he would like to talk to his pet, he figured that would get annoying pretty fast.
He saw the Bengals and pondered briefly on it. Maybe one would be cool, a dog-like cat.Mom and Dad DID say he could get what he wanted, although they would probably not be happy that he brought that home.
He paused at the Silver Siberian, looking like it was wearing a regal fur coat.  But, he decided against it, as that would be a LOT of shedding.

And there it was. He saw them, and immediately knew what he wanted. He went to the Egyptian Maus, and saw the little kittens. They couldn't have been much older than two months. They were the most adorable things Dan had ever seen. He was almost tearing up at the cuteness.
"Hey, can I have one of these kitten babbies?"
"Of course. Which one?"

Dan looked them over. They were all so cute,it was hard to decide. But then one looked up at him. They stared at each other for a solid minute, and Dan knew which one to pick.
"This one."
The lady nodded, and gently picked up the baby out of the enclosure. Dan was delighted to learn that it was a boy.
After Dan had paid, and accepted two sugar cookies that he quickly devoured, he was asked the all-important question.
"Well, what are you going to name him?"

Dan thought for a moment, and the answer came to him. He smiled and responded.
"...Loki."
