Saskia Nicholson,

Hi there! I'm Phylicia Stanwood, but you can call me Phyllis. I'm from Ilvermorny (duh) but I grew up in England and my parents attended Hogwarts, so I am aware of a few things about your school. From what I know, it sounds like we aren’t too different. We’ve got four Houses too. I’m in Thunderbird, the House that represents the soul and favors adventurers, our House matches up with Gryffindor I should think, and that’s probably where I’d end up. The other three are: Wampus (stands for the body and favors soldiers or something), pretty much the tough, competitive people, likely would end up in Slytherin. Pukwudgie (stands for the heart and favors healers), the nice people (OK, maybe not necessarily, but the couple I’ve met so far have been really nice), would probably match up with Hufflepuff. And Horned Serpent’s the last one. Sounds like Slytherin with the whole snakey thing but as they favor bookworms (sorry I don’t remember what it was actually called) and represent the mind, they match up with Ravenclaw more. Sorry if my pairings don’t make much sense for whatever House you’re in. What House are you in, by the way?

Anyways, a couple things about me. I was born November 5th, 2007 at 11:29 p.m. A rather rainy night, or so I've been told. I'm a 1st year. I like flying (like, a lot) and hope to be a Chaser. My wand is 12 inches, supple, larch wood, and jackalope antler. Favorite color is maroon. I enjoy pranking people, getting up to a bit of mischief, that sort of thing. Mostly habits from years of trying to bug my mom.

Attached is a picture of me. It's good to meet you. So, what're your hobbies? Quidditch? Dueling? Some other Hogwarts activity I'm not aware of or an average thing like reading or drawing?

Sincerely,

Dear Phyllis,

I think it's cool that you grew up around here. I haven't been to America myself, although I wouldn't be surprised if my mother visited there for her job. She's a Curse-Breaker, so she goes around different places to remove curses. I don't see her a lot, but I guess it's just a part of the job. Still, I'd be interested in visiting America one day, maybe when I get the chance to travel and get out of Britain. Do you like being in America? Has there been times when you missed England? What is it like living in America compared to here?

I think your pairings were reasonable enough, judging by your descriptions of your houses. As for what house I'm in, it's Hufflepuff. And you're right that Hufflepuffs tend to be the nicer ones out of the other houses. But I have to admit, being sorted into that house got me into some more issues than I bargained for. There's some house discrimination going on in this school, mostly from stereotypes. But in my case, there have been some people who see me as an easy target for bullying, since I'm stuck with the overly friendly people. And that's not including the part where people say that Hufflepuffs are where the nobodies go when the Sorting Hat figures out that they have no worth in the other houses either. It's all stupid crap, honestly. But anyway, I'm rambling here.

I guess this is the part where I say things about myself too. I was born on April 9, and I'm currently 12 years old and in my second year at Hogwarts. I'm actually the Quidditch Captain for Hufflepuff and I'm playing as their Beater. Quidditch hasn't officially started yet, since it's still near the start of the school, but I'm looking forward to playing it. My wand's 27.9 centimetres long (or 11 inches, if we're using that instead), made out of blackthorn and has a phoenix feather core. It's supposed to be fitting for someone who won't go down without a fight and has a lot of conviction, if I recall correctly. My favourite colour is red, although I don't really think too much about why it is.

As for hobbies, I like going outside and nowadays, I've been practicing Quidditch and learning how to move around with my broom. But other than that, I like running around and being as physically active as I can, even if it means climbing trees for fun. It might sound stupid, and it might be, but I personally find it freeing to move around without feeling cramped in one place all the time. I also like reading, and with the huge selection of books there are in Hogwarts, I've been reading more than I have before. I've tried out duelling once (it got really unpleasant at one point, but I won in the end), and I'm thinking about officially taking part of the duelling club and joining the duelling team for Hufflepuff too. But we'll see what happens later in the year.

I've been meaning to ask, what is it like in Ilvermorny? Are there any other similarities or differences it has with Hogwarts that you know of? Is there anything going on in there that's worth talking about? I'd love to learn more about Ilvermorny and the differences between our schools. Or anything you'd like to tell me, really. And if there's anything else you'd like to ask or know about me, you can mention that too.

I look forward to reading your next reply!

Sincerely,

Hi again Saskia!

Actually, my mom and I moved to Canada, not America. It stills feeds into Ilvermorny, but's a bit different from the States. From what I've seen of the U.S., it's very modern--technology everywhere, newer buildings, that kind of stuff. It's hard to imagine a wizarding community here, but then again, there was some law passed, which has since been removed I think, that made magic and Muggles (or No-Maj, whatever) 100% separate. I do miss England, a lot really. The move pretty much wrecked my family.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying about stereotypes. Ilvermorny's better cuz all four Houses favor something cool (they probably sounded lamer when I told you as I forgot the exact wording). My mom used to rant about how stupid Gryffindors were and how Hufflepuff was entirely pointless, all that sort of garbage. Anyways, I'd think you'd be a Wampus, and it's not weird that you like being outside a lot, I used to spend all my free time outdoors. Cool that you're on the Quidditch team. Captain, huh? Best of luck for your first match! :)

Since Ivlrmorny Ilvermorny (ugh it's so hard to spell) is based off Hogwarts, they're pretty similar. We've got all the same subjects and everything. Except we have these annoying blue and cherry colored robes, black is definitely better. I haven't been here long so I can't tell you for sure, but rumors say the Muggleborns get offered a bunch of really cool trips over breaks that they don't open up for the rest of us. Even bold stuff like that they don't want them going home to Muggles and roommates mess with their stuff if they do. I dunno, but it's a bit fishy. Anything off at Hogwarts?

Already waiting for the next owl!

From,
