An Attempted Escape
@Marla Quinlan
It probably wasn't the best idea to be in the library half an hour before curfew. And it definitely wasn't a good idea to get caught up in a book about magical slugs and forget about said curfew. Which meant one thing: Catriona was almost 100% sure she was going to get in trouble. (Her sister, Freddie, would tell her to book it back to the dorms. Freddie also thought it was a good idea to prank prefects, so her advice wasn't always reliable.) Maybe she could make a run for the girl's bathroom and say she got stuck. Or that she was lost? No, that wouldn't make sense, she'd been at Hogwarts for at least a month... There was no point. She was going to get caught and get detention anyway, she might as well start the walk back to the Ravenclaw dormitories sooner rather than later.
Sighing, Catriona grabbed the slug book and slid it back onto the shelf, right next to where she'd marked its place with a scrap of parchment. She slung her back over her shoulder and stood, moving towards the doors only to trip quite gracelessly over the chair she'd forgotten to push in. A startled yelp was torn from her throat, unbidden.
"Oh Merlin, no," she whispered into the dark, limbs frozen. She was going to get in trouble. She was going to get in trouble. They wouldn't expel her because of this, right? Yeah, definitely not, that was dumb. They'd have to expel people constantly then. Maybe if she tried hard enough she could convince the prefect who'd catch her that she didn't deserve detention. It had been an honest mistake after all... Maybe they'd let her off with a warning?
Well, she wasn't going to wait around to see. If there was a chance she could run, she'd take it.
Skirting around the chair as quietly as she could, Catriona made her way across the library, dodging bookshelves and tables in the dark as best she could. If only Freddie could see her now.

An Attempted Escape
[quote]The night was a beautiful one, it's velvety blackness almost feeling like a blanket covering the vast mountains of Scotland. To her, the late hours of the day were therapeutic, with the blissful silence that almost made Hogwarts feel otherworldly. It was one of the perks of being a prefect, nobody could bust her for sneaking out, because she always had her go-to excuse that she was patrolling, even if she was just sneaking out to stargaze, or just cause some mischief.
But out of all the places in Hogwarts, by far, one of her favorites was the library. Especially to watch over, since nobody would really stick their business in the library past curfew with their head screwed on right. This meant of course, that she was able to curl up on a chair on each ordered late night obligation that she had and read the night away. Oh, how amazing it was! The subtle pins and needles feeling that made its way throughout her legs for sitting for too long, the muffled whistle of the wind in your ear... It was practically heaven.
And so, there she was, legs folded onto her chest, a book leaning on her knees as she read it, her eyes craving so many words that it was like it was her last day on Earth. Like she said before, nobody came into the library after hours, so she had all this time to herse–
AH!
A high pitched, quick screech like sound echoed throughout the library, so unexpected to Marla that she dropped her book in complete shock. She frowned, disappointed that she lost her page, but what if that was something really dangerous? Hopefully it would just be some rebellious student that was dumb enough to make noise... But truly anything was possible at Hogwarts. With a forest filled to the brim with creatures that ranged from a dream come true to things that she envisioned in her worst night terrors... There wasn't a situation she could rule out. It was better to overestimate than under, so she carefully placed her feet on the floor, putting her weight on them steady and slow as to not let the floor creak. Attempting to be as nimble and hushed as possible, she reached in her pocket for her wand in case things went awry.
Eventually, she made her way to the main seating area of the library and spotted a dark figure darting around the room.
"Oi! Who goes there?" She bellowed in a deeper voice than usual, trying to seem intimidating if it did happen to be something dangerous. As short as she was, even the slightest centimeter distinction could make all the difference, so she stood as tall as she could. "Hey! Ahm talkin' to yah!" This time her voice was more of an aggressive whisper, as she marched closer to the figure. She lit up her wand, pointing it at the person, who turned out to be a black-haired, blue-eyed, and frankly, petrified looking girl. She faltered for a moment, not expecting to see someone so guilty, yet so innocent looking. She appeared to be a first-year with her timid demeanor, but some people thought that Marla was still a first-year when she... Wasn't, so there was a possibility that the girl was older. "Can yah explain t' me why yah're out so late?" Her tone was more delicate, not wanting to scare away the girl, who she kind of felt bad for. But there were still threatening undertones laced into her voice, just enough to get the truth out of this girl. Hopefully.
