Nocturnal Badgers
Closed for @Jake Morris @Thea Knott and maybe @Saskia NicholsonOliver was restless; He laid on his back staring at the ceiling listening to last embers crack from the fire pit in the middle of the boys dorm. He lost track of how many times he had tossed and turned, and decided to give up on the fight against his insomnia. The young badger was just too eager for the morning; It would be his first official day of Hogwarts. Looking around Oliver could see he was the only one stirring in his dorm, “What time is it..” He wondered to himself as he slowly rose out of bed.
Sitting on the edge of his bed a bit scattered brained from the lack of sleep, Oliver collected himself. Deciding against another round of tossing and turning, he slipped into his slippers and tip toed towards the door. A slight creek echoed throughout the room as he eased the door open just enough for him to slip through. The main burrow was deserted for the first time since Oliver had been in the common room. A group of cacti danced under the moonlight on an upper shelf, an occasional owl could be heard from one of the circular windows, and a warm fire still danced in the darkness.
The soft glow and the stillness of the room made it feel serene. Sneaking up on Oliver however was something he least expected at this hour; a sweat aroma started leaking through the entrance of the common room. His stomach growled in his response. The kitchen was right around the corner Oliver recalled from his tour earlier in the day. As the smell lingered, Oliver found himself inching closer towards the exit. He knew it was against school rules to leave the common room after hours, but the kitchens were only so far away, plus he hadn’t noticed anyone else awake..
Leaning up against one of the oak tables, he danced back in forth with the idea. On the negative side- Oliver didn’t wanna get in trouble, or his house. On the other hand however, striking a friendship with a house-elf seemed very beneficial for him and his future years at Hogwarts. Just then a creek from a nearby door bought the boy back to his senses. Still a bit scattered brained, and without hesitation Oliver ducked behind a chair even though half his body peaked out.

Nocturnal Badgers
Try as he might, Jake just could not sleep. He had lain in bed for what felt like hours - listening to his roommates breathing, and the castle creaking. He didn't know what was out there, or what was lying in the darkness...but he felt vulnerable in his bed - it wasn't a safe place like his bed at home. It was a strange bed, strange sheets, strange pillows...and though he had a blanket from home and a few of his own stuffed animals, it WASN'T home...and was even less inviting than the bunkbeds at camp had been because at least then he'd had a friend.
After more time lying frightened in the dark Jake hadn't been able to take it anymore. The small boy hopped out of bed, clutching his stuffed dog Freddie to his chest. Normally he wouldn't have taken him out of the room - the other kids might have made fun of him - but Jake needed the comfort and everybody was sleeping so nobody would see. He slipped on his slippers, and headed out into the darkened hall.
The route to the common room was dark and scary, and at times he froze...feeling unable to move...but soon he somehow made his way back to the setting that had become the most familiar of any other place inside of the school - the common room - and took a place in the dying light of the fire. He thought of home, and how he wished he was there. How if he couldn't sleep at home he could go to his parents' room, and they'd never be mad at him for waking them up. Here, there was nobody to talk to...nobody to go to when you were afraid or when you were sad. It was enough to make him want to cry...
He might have then, if he hadn't seen something else. Jake turned, and suddenly spotted something he hadn't noticed before.
Over behind the chair, a boy hid. Jake jumped, startled by his appearance. Who could THAT be...? And what was he hiding for...? The little Hufflepuff held Freddie to his chest and took a cautious step forward.
"U-um...h-hello...?" the shy boy called out, looking down oddly at the boy behind the chair.

Nocturnal Badgers
The second night of the term, and Thea already couldn't sleep. She tossed and turned, tries laying on her back and on her stomach. She'd rearrange and flip over her pillows, move around her blanket and comforter, and yet again, she was the last girl to go to sleep on the second night of the term.
At some point, the Hufflepuff girl just gave up and sat up as quietly as she could in the abundance of stuffed animals that she'd brought with her. She tried not to wake up any other witch as she looked around at the sleepy common room and wondered how come they were able to fall asleep right away..
She quickly hopped off her bed and put on a pair of fluffy socks to make herself a bit quieter as she slipped through the door of the dormitory into the common room.
The fireplace and all candles were out, making it much harder for Thea to see than she would've liked,, and there was some older year sleeping on the couch with a couple of papers and books. The witch debated whether or not to wake them up before they got ink all over everything, but it seemed the witch was too late. So she slipped out quietly out of the common rooms and into the corridors of Hogwarts.
It wasn't long before she had found herself in a corridor on the second floor, but it seemed that now she wasn't alone. In the darkness, she could see two other figures standing in the darkness.
Well, not really standing. One of the figures was standing, clutching onto an item in its hand and the other was crouching behind a chair in what Thea could only guess was an attempt at hiding. She quickly shuffled forward to recognise the two figures as two boys she'd seen during the orientation, before promptly fleeing to avoid talking. Even if she was able to catch their names, she definitely didn't remember them now, as she was towering over the two first years.
"What- wh-..." she stuttered in a failed attempt to ask what they were doing and why now. She sighed at her incompetence and just hoped for the two boys do figure out what she were trying to do.
