You Charmed The Heart Right Outta Me
It was a fine day to go shopping for school supplies, something that she did with her great-auntie Doireann. After the first year when practically everyone in her family had joined her at some shop or another, they had made it a tradition to go on their own since then. They didn’t see each other as much as they would like due to her aunts job as the editor of Witch Weekly. She was constantly busy, flooing off to the offices or homes of her coworkers, proofreading and editing. Not to mention how often she travelled for work, to Paris to discuss the latest Wizarding fashion. It seemed there was always something that needed doing so when they had time together like this, the blonde was grateful for it.
Dymphna peered into the windows of the Menagerie. It was their last stop and for some reason, she felt nervous. “All right, a stór? They already gave permission. All you have to do is choose and I’ll take care of the rest.” So her parents had spoken about it. That explained a lot. Over the summer, leading up to her birthday, they seemed to drop a few hints here and there about pets. She sat with her father in his study where he showed her a scrapbook of all the cats he had throughout the years. Apparently, her dad was quite the ‘crazy cat lady.’ While helping her mother cook dinner, she was lectured on the responsibility of having a pet, especially owls which seemed to be her mother's favorite.
Even her grandparents were in on it! They brought up Aethonans which of course, she wouldn’t be allowed to have at Hogwarts. Something was said about how the school needed to get with the times and have stables already. But no one had mentioned the Pygmy Puffs. The pink and purple balls of fluff were the first thing that caught her eye as they walked into the shop. Dymphna felt bad for finding a pet so quickly, for not giving any of the others a chance so she walked around a bit while her auntie spoke with the shopkeeper.
The cats were nice, purring when she came over to pet them. The owls not so much. There was one that tried to bite her, reminding her of her own mother’s owl. Rude. Seeing the toads made her smile but she kept going, passing by the rats and onto the balls of fluff. They were rolling around and squeaking, wanting to impress her? Purple was a nice colour but she always had a fondness for pink. There was one in particular, in the far back and looking a little sad. Perhaps shy, Dymphna thought. She turned to call the shopkeep over but the adults had been watching her this whole time. It turned her cheeks pink but she straightened up, feeling confident in her choice.
“This one. The little one in the back.” As the shopkeep made their way over, the blonde studied the creature. It had big blue eyes, similar to her own. “Good choice,” Doir was standing at her side. “A girl,” the shopkeep was saying, gently handling her. “What will you call her?” Dymphna thought it over as her auntie paid. She was given the small creature to hold, petting the ball of fur as she thought, but only one name came to mind. Of course it would, with all the time she’d spent listening to her songs on the gramophone. “Celestina.” After her favourite singer, Celestina Warbeck. It was time to take her new friend home.

Lines that didn't make the cut: They were nothing like the Puffs that she and Ben encountered during her first year, the ones that tried to eat her boogers. Leer must have trained them to be disgusting little creatures - Greg in particular. Who named something so cute Greg anyway?

Just marking this thread as done as I see the pet has been given out.
