History

Born to two wealthy and loving parents, Asher had a childhood most could only dream of. Though he was born in America, by the time he had turned three and his sister was born the family moved back to his mother's home of Cobh, Ireland. In the manor there Asher would spend most of his time reading a variety of books – everything from poetry, to tales of gallant knights, to historical manuals on the arts of dueling and swordplay. It was the ancestral home of his mother's family and Asher grew to love it for its wealth of secrets.

While fairly active when trying to re-create the techniques shown in the martial manuals from the family library, Asher was never what you would call a sporty child. He had no interest in quidditch and would much rather spend the day readying in the family library. It was during one of these lazy afternoons that he discovered the room that would become his safe haven for the remainder of his childhood.

In the back of the Cromwell library sat an alcove with a statue of a black, horned griffin. Asher had found this quite odd, in all the reading he had done griffins never appeared to have horns. Something compelled him to reach a hand out to pet the creature and, much to Asher's surprise, the griffin bowed its head to be pet. The statue turned warm to the touch and with a rumbling "Finally," the stonework began to shift. What Asher would later discover was that this was his grandfather's personal study. The room had been enchanted to open only to a male member of sufficient Cromwell blood, a standard he met thanks to his mother. Inside he found a treasure trove of ancient books, but could read none of them as they were not written in English. Or at least, not in a dialect he recognized. The only thing he found he could read was his grandfather's manifesto.

The writings were that of a madman. Even at the young age of nine Asher could tell that his grandfather was not a good person, and even if he dearly wished he could have known the man, a sinking suspicion told him it was for that best that he did not. It was in the lines of this twisted, racist diatribe that he discovered the history of his mother's family, and the feud they had with his father's. Apparently both clans were ancient warrior families originating from ancient England, supposedly back to mythical Albion itself. He learned of their rivalry, that the Ravencrofts fought for the Light and Cromwells the Dark. Eventually both families left England but always seemed to meet again on the battlefield. This tradition only stopped the night his father was able to turn his mother to the Light.

With the truth revealed, Asher decided he would continue his family's fight to ward off the evils of the land. He would become a champion fighter, and do his part to keep evil people like his grandfather from hurting good people like his parents. But as Asher grew older, so did his desire to know what the books in his private study said. He couldn't ask for help translating, he knew his parents would see all the books destroyed if they knew about them. So the young wizard resolved to learn the languages himself, and finally his curiosity would be sated.

When not home, which was quite a bit more than most, he was traveling the world with his family. His mother was a free-lance Curse-Breaker, and it wasn't long before his father had resigned from his position as a Hit Wizard to join her. While this has resulted in Asher being very worldly for someone his age, it has left no time to interact with kids his own age. He considers his little sister to be his best and only friend, and is much more comfortable around adults than children. This is his biggest fear going into Hogwarts.
Appearance

Asher is tall for his age and like most in his family has broad shoulders. His hair is dark brown and grown out just a little longer than most boys his age, but one would not consider it long. He has light blue eyes and a pale complexion. Despite his size, he tends to hold himself in a rather closed off manner when interacting with kids his own age.

Boggart

Asher's boggart is the Dullahan of irish folklore. A representation of death and the darkness within himself, Asher is afraid of the sacrifices he might find himself willing to make. Even if his desires are centered around equality for all, he sees a little too much of himself in this dark legend and has grown to be terrified of it. (Not to mention the idea of a guy riding around without a head is just plain creepy!)
