Someone's Watching...

With it being one of the last, fleeting days of warmth before autumn approached, Illowy found herself at the lakeside, perched on one of the great boulders that speckled the edges of the lake. Balanced on her leg was her sketchbook, teeming with notes from her recent research while a couple books she'd borrowed sat in her lap. However, her personal work wasn't what she was pouring over this lovely afternoon. Instead, it was a letter she'd received that morning at breakfast by a rather large, almost menacing looking owl; and it had left her brimming with questions.
Illowy couldn't keep herself from pouring over it, trying to figure out who this letter could have been from. No one came to mind right away with those initials, at least, not in this school. The child went back to the envelope it came to her in, the seal still in tact as she tried to recognize it. The letter had been sealed with back wax and presented the image of a waxing moon against the tips of a couple of, what looked like, pine trees. It perplexed her entirely.Illowy,
Quite the young witch you're turning out to be. You've done nothing short of impress me, especially considering everything you've been through over this past year. I look forward to seeing everything you do.
I will see you when a clearer moon shines.
-D.F.
Folding the ominous note, the snake dropped it onto her sketchbook, resting an elbow on her other knee and perching her chin in her palm as she looked over the lake, trying to think as she twirled her pencil through her fingers.
Was someone watching her? What did they know exactly about 'what she'd experienced' over the past year? Maybe it was another student at the school trying to mess with her... but what an odd way to try to get at her; and who did she even know that would have the initials of D.F. that would even care to try to mess with her? She supposed it could have been some sort of alias, but if that were the case, wouldn't they just write out the entire alias? Her mind was swirling with questions.
Cold, pale eyes flickered about herself for a moment before she noticed someone who seemed to be coming towards her, "Do you need something?"
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Someone's Watching...
Dorothy walked towards the great lake slowly, enjoying the cool breeze that whispered through her hair and across her face. She had escaped to the grounds in an eager (if not desperate) attempt to befriend someone during her break. She was someone who craved human contact and relationships and she was starting to feel slightly isolated without her usual group of neighbor friends to go exploring with.
Excitement blossomed in her chest at the sight of a girl sitting all alone at the lake. It was probably a bit morbid to think, but she felt that she had found the perfect target. A girl sitting all alone? She mustbe in desperate need of companionship, Dorothy thought. It was a silly thought, but she was too young and clueless to really understand that not everyone desired to be surrounded by people at all times as she did.
So, she merrily trotted towards the girl with a growing smile. Before Dorothy could speak, the stranger questioned her.
It was very much like primary school- declaring to children you didn't even know that you were now friends. But Dorothy didn't realize the silliness of her saying so.
"What are you doing out here all alone?" She questioned, tipping her head to the side. "It's a bit chilly, don't you think?

"Need something?" Dorothy repeated. "Oh, not quite. Except... maybe I do. I'm on a quest, you see," She said with a dopey grin. "I'm here to befriend you!""Do you need something?"

Someone's Watching...

The icy eyed girl looked the underclassmen up and down for a moment, trying to place if she knew the girl. Illowy recognized her well enough to recall they were in the same house, that the other snake was a first year and so on; however, whatever her name was escaped Illowy entirely. The other child echoed her statement for a moment before the puerile grin spread over her lips once more, and Illowy couldn't help but think how she hadn't seen anyone so happy to see her since the last time she saw Elizabeth running to greet her. Truthfully, aside from maybe her own cousin and Sylvie, Elizabeth was the only other student who was always happy to see her.
The younger girl gave her declaration of her mission to come befriend the older student, which was beyond Illowy's understanding as to why she'd been selected; and girl kept babbling on before Illowy was able to get any words in, "My jumper is warm enough, I'm not that chilled." she assured, her tone staying fairly flat and neutral as she absentmindedly pulled her sleeves over scarred hands, "Are you sure you're not meant to be a Puffball? Toss on a yellow jumper and start tossin' about friendship bracelets at everyone and I don't think anyone would know the difference."
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.
