"Reputation is an idle and most false imposition; oft got without merit, and lost without deserving."
The past never escaped Alexx, did it? To Alexx, putting her old self behind her was extremely important. Catching the eyes of old and familiar faces, though ones that weren't exactly ones that she would call her "friends", was all fine and well. That was, until the regret started eating at her.

Certain things wouldn't strike a heavy memory in the heart of Alexx. But then other things... Well, they would. Rosie Parker, however, was an odd reminder of 2nd year. She had almost forgotten of the girl's existence, truth be told. And it hadn't even been that long since they had last seen one another! But Alexx was slowly losing the memory of all the people that existed outside of her friend group. Which, oddly enough, she was trying to break off from.

There were many things to consider about Rosie Parker. Prefect, or ex-Prefect? Friend or foe? Was she just like Alexx, or did she exist to remind Alexx that she was doomed to exist in the minds of others only as an identity she was running from?

More to this little story, Alexx knew that she needed to talk to Rosie. To some extent, anyway, that was true. Rosie Parker was someone her own age, shared similar friends (she thinks), and could be an asset on her journey down this path of becoming someone new. Also, who was to say that she couldn't recruit Rosie for the Headliner while she was at it?

Approaching her without good reason, as she had done to several other students her own age in the past 24 (give or take) hours was going to be a miserable experience. She likely came off as a creep. But if she was going to make friends, then she needed to do that.

"Rosie!" She called out, offering the familiar Hufflepuff a half-smile. "Finally, someone who might know," If it wasn't clear by this point, Alexx was making it up as she went. "Any idea which unfortunate Slytherin replaced me on the Prefect team? You are still a Prefect, right?"

It was pitiful.

As a matter of fact, Alexx was prancing around like she owned Hogwarts, and yet she didn't even know how to approach people? What an unfortunate, awkward child she was. The confidence of a goddess, but the intelligence of a grapefruit. Her reputation, if that still existed, did not precede her in person. No wonder she chased every position and chance for reinvention she could! Being the jack-of-all-trades made people unsure as to who her true self was!

These days, Rosie's favorite parts of the day were when she was at the Great Hall.

Food was important to a growing girl! If she was going to be one of the best Quidditch athletes in Hogwarts, she needed to get food in her belly on a regular basis. But healthy food, and protein, and calcium. So she could be strong. Maybe she'd grow taller than even Max, or Reid. She didn't think height was too important, she was content with being short. She just wanted some muscle in her arms! Ballet was fun, sure, but it didn't do too much justice for too much physical strength. Unless you were lifting someone, but that was usually the boys.

Anyway, Rosie was chowing down on the latest meal Hogwarts offered them, until she heard her name from behind her. She wiped her mouth with a napkin and glanced over, seeing her dear od friend Alex Severin. (With an accent, Rosie emphasized on that accent in her head. It made her sound cool.) She had heard rumors she had become prefect, and Rosie was happy for her. Sadly, Rosie had stepped down from that position at the end of year two. She wasn't really good at the job, even if people said otherwise. It was a lot of taking charge, and nobody really wanted to listen to a tiny mudblood with a cracking voice. Puberty was on it's way, boys.

She heard the question and rose a finger to signal she was still chewing. Rosie swallowed her food and shook her head. "Nah, I'm not a prefect anymore. I stepped down last year. I heard about your premotion, though! I think you're perfect for the job. Congrats." Rosie paused before scooting over slightly. "You wanna sit with me? I still got some food left so I can have a longer conversation." She smiled warmly, patting the seat next to her.

Part of Alexx was relieved. This wasn't work-related. Could she even call it that anymore? It wasn't her job. It wasn't her title. Nor was it Rosie's, so that made two of them. It was sort of comforting to be in the presence of someone who knew what she knew, but wasn't a part of that life anymore. But she couldn't fully understand why someone such as Rosie Parker wouldn't return to the position. Wasn't there some sort of status quo around here, where certain people did certain things, and that was that?

Of course, Alexx knew who the other Hufflepuff Prefects were. Quinn and Reid, and then... Those two girls. Whoever they were again. Which is what made Alexx question the whole ordeal- how were two people who didn't have the sort of attitude that screamed "we run the school" possess that title? Well, who was Alexx do judge? She now held a position of authority in a much different standard; she came with the power to ruin lives, not just give out detention. Not that Alexx was out to ruin a life that didn't belong to Aurelia, because at least she wasn't totally heartless.

New year, new revenge plan.

Merlin would rejoice the day that Alexx stopped picking on Aurelia.

But to Alexx's delight, she was being offered company. Things were coming along swimmingly. Besides, she had much more to ask Rosie. She didn't want to pry, because prying was rude and it made people not like you. If there was anything Alexx wanted, it was respect. Respect was earned one of two ways: love and fear. Rosie Parker was not someone that Alexx wanted to strike fear into, so the second option was love. Buttering Rosie up and getting some answers out of her.

For clarification, Alexx was not going to be putting this into an article. She knew better. And whatever reason it was that Rosie didn't go back to the Prefect position, it likely wasn't that interesting. There were better things to cover, like the disappearance (or resignation, but that didn't sound as juicy) of Professor Barclay. That was going to turn heads as students saw the papers in the halls. For once, Alexx might not find her beloved articles crumbled up and tossed to the side, reduced to mere litter.

So she took her seat, smiling. "Ah, you mean with the Headliner? Well, I try. I make a habit of dipping my toes into every body of water, simply because I am an overachiever." Many people would have said that Alexx was not qualified. At least, that is what Alexx believed. While she may not have an abundance of friends, but she did have more than enough enemies. Even ones that she didn't know about, apparently. Whether it was that people envied her position in the school's society, or just hated her for being the way that she was, Alexx couldn't tell. She was sure that there were a number of reasons to dislike her to begin with, but no one ever made it clear why.

Tilting her head, she began on her path of curiosity. "I would have expected you to still be a Prefect. Did you quit like me, or were you fired?" She joked, nudging her a little bit. If there was one way to win the heart of the people, it was by making them comfortable.

Rosie wasn't too big on power. So she didn't really care about not being a prefect. Sure, it was nice to be able to watch over her fellow classmates and younger students in Hufflepuff, but leadership wasn't entirely her thing. It's not like people listened to her anyway. Her voice was very small compared to the crowd that was her year. For example, someone like Quinn, who was growing seven feet at this point, was much better at getting a crowd together. Reid too, just shorter.

She grinned bright when Alexx decided to sit down with her, resting her head on her hand. Her hair didn't go past her jaw anymore, she had decided to cut it before she came back to school. It was a weird experience, having short hair. Not that it was relevant, but she found herself thinking about her hair a lot. Her neck felt cold a lot of the time! The wind actually reached it! She moved some of her hair out of her eyes to focus her attention on Alexx this time. She was trying not to let her mind focus on something else, it had been doing that a lot lately. It was stupid, and very inconvenient.

She let out a small chuckle when Alexx asked if she had quit or been fired. It would've been a funny story if she had been fired. Rosie Parker -- Fired For Being Too Nice To The Rulebreakers. It sounded a lot like her. "Nope! I just quit. It was a lot for me, and I'm really bad at... Enforcing rules, and yelling at people, and being a leader. Stuff like that. People walk over me a lot too, I think, so I was kind of a useless prefect." She shrugged. "I plan on applying again one day. I just need a growth spurt and a voice that doesn't make me sound like I'm ten."
