Matilda was born on December 6th to Edward and Victoria Rooks at St. Mungo's.

Edward Rooks works at the Ministry in some capacity, but Matilda doesn't know exactly what he does. He says it’s boring work whenever she asks. It keeps him away from home a lot.

Matilda inherited a love of Quidditch from her father, though she has no plans to play on a team herself. She loves analyzing games and may or may not have helped her father put together last year's fantasy Quidditch team.

Her mother, Victoria, tests charms and potions for 'Witch Weekly'. She's moderately well-known for a variation on a spell to aerate wines and another spell for folding napkins into appealing shapes. She also ghostwrites a small column on etiquette. Victoria is hard to please and can be rather harsh with her daughter.

Matilda usually has a library book or her journal in hand.


Matilda is considered very well-behaved and generally liked by authority figures, with a tendency to be quiet and excessively polite when anxious. She can be very blunt when surrounded by her peers, especially if she's comfortable with them.

She loves to read, with a preference for fantasy. She’s observant and will keep her cards hidden.

Her mother has drilled Matilda on proper behavior from a young age, so she has learned how to be sneaky.


Matilda has long brown hair that’s frequently pulled back into a ponytail or braid. Her eyes are a bright blue, and she has a tiny scar just below her left eye. She's a little short for her age. She has a very neutral expression when around people she doesn't trust, which can make her oddly intimidating for her short size.
