Initially, Hogwarts.io was firstly a French site created when I was 13 years old, in order to bring together players who want to have fun, learn and meet each other around two passions: writing and the Wizarding world of Harry Potter!

From the end of 2015 to the end of 2017, I rebuilt the site from scratch and translated it into English. The work was considerable: nearly 2,500 hours of work, over 368 days, which means an average of 6.8 hours per day, every other day, for two years!

All the steps are there: initial idea, design, graphics, integration, programming, and bug removal! The work of maintenance, updating and debugging has since remained very sustained.





Behind the magic, there is also Muggle technology: the site is hosted on a dedicated server that generates nearly 2 million pages per month and stores nearly 20 GB of data. Two other small personal servers back up the whole several times a year.

All this has a cost: since its creation, the site has cost about €2,000 ($2,200). The rental of the server and the domain name cost me more than €350 ($390) in 2018. The monthly cost increases slowly over the life of the site, as I will gradually have to move to more powerful servers.

The site will always remain free and without advertising. Although they could be very lucrative, advertisements would ruin the atmosphere and immersion I wanted to give to the site, and I am sensitive to the privacy of users.

The financing of the site is therefore entirely voluntary, and you can participate! For each euro donated, fifty cents will finance the site (after taxes, VAT and fees). Thus, nearly €45 ($50) of donations each month would allow the site to be self-financing (server and domain name). Any surplus would offset the €2,000 it has cost so far, I'll have a coffee thinking of you!



The counterpart is mostly the site itself! By donating, you will directly contribute to covering part of its operating costs. Contribute if you think the site brings you something worthwhile!

The site must remain free and, for this reason, I do not want to offer something that could distort the game (gallions, points, progress).
There is of course absolutely no requirement. Please don't give anything if it's complicated for you: send me an owl, it will be just as nice;)
