Earlier that morning, Ginevra Tsuchiya could not help but looking at the mirror even though it was time to leave home. "There's still a little time to see how I look like dressed in my school robes," she thought.

Ginevra was a new student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Even though she knew that most students preferred to get to King's Cross Station in Muggle clothes and only changed later, Ginevra decided to wear her robes before so she did not have to trouble herself by changing inside a train. Plus, she could simply cover the robes with a trench coat to avoid Muggle's attention.

Ginevra did not close the door of her room, so her mum entered and smiled when she saw her eldest daughter admiring herself at the mirror. "Come on, Ginny!" she called. "You don't want to be late for your first term at Hogwarts." Ginevra was very excited, but she was terribly nervous as well. She had never gone to a school outside her residence town before, let alone a boarding school.

Ginevra and her family took an-hour drive to London and arrived at the train station. Crossing through the wall that led them to Platform 9 3/4, Mr and Mrs Tsuchiya helped Ginevra shoving and heaving her trunk through the train door, and Ginevra tucked it away at the corner of an empty compartment.

"I'll be back soon!" called Ginevra to her family as the whistle sounded. "I'll miss you, too - especially at the beginning, but I'm sure I'll love it there." She waved her hand.

Her parents and her younger sister waved back, and the train started to move. Ginevra watched as her family seem to disappear when the red train turned, and felt even more nervous than before. Trying to take the concerns off her mind inside the empty compartment, Ginevra took out her copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and began to read.

Suddenly, the compartment door slid open.

Kya opened the door to find a girl her age sitting there. She slid in the rest of the way and shut the door behind her. She silently sat down and put her trunk on her lap. She opened it and found her scotch pad and pencils. She also pulled out a picture of her family when she was four. Right before her father left them. She started drawing. She started with basic outlines. She drew all of the outlines but when she got to her father she couldn't.
Earlier that day her mother had promised that over Christmas Kyat, her younger sister, and her mother would go and see her father. Of course they couldn't talk to him but they could see him. Her mother had cast a spell on him to make him forget them after he found out they were witches. After all he was a muggle. Kya thought about her sister. Her sweet younger sister. She also thought about her mother. She missed her so much! She couldn't wait to see her over the holidays. She really hoped she would be in Gryffindor like her mother. The only house she didn't want to be in was Slithering.

It was very awkward, really, that the two girls shared a compartment without exchanging words. Only their eyes moved sometimes, glancing at each other. Perhaps this girl decided to sit here because she already knew I was alone and because I looked like an un-chatty type, Ginevra thought. She seems so busy sketching something, so I do not think she likes to be bothered - at least not now.

Seeing the brown-haired girl drawing, Ginevra could not help but remember her little sister Elisa. Elisa enjoyed drawing very much, and she was very good at it, too.

Ginevra really wanted to watch the girl opposite her sketching, but a memory from the past surfaced and prevented her from doing so. In that memory, Ginevra saw herself as an elementary schoolgirl in a Muggle school, sitting alone in her desk. One of her classmates, a blue-eyed girl, was sketching pretty ladies in her sketchbook. Little Ginevra, admiring the pictures, decided to watch the girl and perhaps got one or two tips on how to draw lovely ladies like that. But once the blue-eyed student sensed her presence, she gave Ginevra a look and snapped, "What are you looking at?!"

With that, Ginevra's attention was snapped back to the present. The girl opposite her might not appreciate being watched, just like her former classmate, but Ginevra had an idea to at least show the girl what a warm person she was. Reaching into her schoolbag, she took out her lunchbox. Her parents had packed her corned chicken sandwich earlier, and now Ginevra decided to share some with the brown-haired student.

"Excuse me," she called her. "Would you like some sandwich? It's corned chicken."

"Huh?"

The girl had talked to her. She looked up and saw that she was holding out part of a sandwich like she was offering it to her.

"Oh. Yeah. Thanks. I forgot to pack one myself."

She took the sandwich and looked at the girl. She was about her age and probably a first year as well.
She had blond hair and she had a young face. She decided that maybe she should get to know the girl.
You know, in case she was in the same house that she would be in.

"Hi! I'm Kya what's your name."

Oh boy what if I'm being to nosy. Maybe I should have just kept on sketching. Well, I've already started. I might as well continue.

"I'm a first year. I really want to be in Gryffindor but I really don't want to be in Slytherin. No offence or anything. I mean if some of your family are Slytherin I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just saying I don't think that I belong there."

Oh gosh.. why are you talking so much Kya? Give the girl a chance to talk already. You could have just ruined your chance for her to be your first friend! Maybe you should of just said nothing.

Ginevra gladly shared some of her corned chicken sandwich with the brown-haired girl. The girl accepted her offer of sharing, so that should be a positive sign that at least she did not object Ginevra's attempt to start a new friendship.

As they ate, the other girl introduced her nickname and that she was a first year. She even went further, sharing her hope to be in Gryffindor and not to be a Slytherin - in a polite way. Thus, Ginevra decided to introduce herself as well, and also share her dream Hogwarts house.

"Nice to meet you, Kya," she started. "My name is Ginevra. Ginevra Tsuchiya. Or you can simply call me Ginny; I know my name sounds quite... outlandish." She laughed.

After that, she quickly changed the subject, for she did not want to bore Kya with more explanation about her name. Not that the story would be important, anyway. "I'm also a first year, so I still have no idea which house I will be sorted to," Ginevra continued. "No offense taken, by the way! None of my family went to Hogwarts, anyway. And I myself want to be a Hufflepuff."

She stopped for a moment, wondering if Kya probably wanted to ask if she was a Muggle-born but too shy to do it. So in case that was what exactly happening, Ginevra shared a piece of information about her family, "My father is a wizard, but he went to Ilvermony because he lived in the USA when he was of our age."

"That's a really cool name!" Kya said happy that she didn't talk to much," It's definitely a mouthful, but I like it!"

OH MY GOSH! Kya! You just called her name a mouthful! That was way to rude! Ok, ok, just calm down. Tell her as much about you as she told about herself and everything will be fine.

"I have a younger sister named Kiara (Ki-ar-a). I guess it's kind of strange that we both have our names start with K. My father used to always get our names mixed up!" Kya said with a laugh which she stopped almost immediately remembering her father.

Oh great Kya. You've gone and turned a joyful conversation into a mournful remembering of your father. Way to go. Ginny probably doesn't want to here about your childhood so CUT IT OUT.

"Um, yeah. My mother is a wizard but my father is a muggle so I'm a half-blood. My mother also went to Hogwarts and she was a Gryfondor. Unlike me, my sister wants to be a Slytherin no matter what. Of course I never tell her I don't want to be a Slytherin because then we would get in a fight. The reason she even wants to be a Slytherin is because she thinks all the cool people go in there. But, I know she is definitely going to be a Hufflepuff."

Come on Kya! Give the girl a chance to talk. You've seriously got to get out of this habit of talking forever!

Ginny laughed a bit awkwardly at Kya's comment regarding her name. Not that it was surprising anyway; she was used to teachers and students asking her how to pronounce her full name when she was enrolled in the Muggle primary school.

But soon afterwards, Kya changed the subject by telling Ginny about her little sister, Kiara. She also mentioned how her father used to get the girls' names mixed up.

Secretly, Ginny thought it was rather strange. Why would a father not remember his own children's names, even if they sounded quite similar? But surely it would be impolite to ask this, so Ginny decided to brush her curiosity away. Besides, it was not impossible that Kya's father came from a different country from her mother, and that both girls sported given names more familiar to their mum's mother tongue. Then it would be a case similar to Ginny and her sister's, both of whom sported Italian given names and a Japanese surname.

Ginny decided to ask about Kiara and shared the story of her own sister. "Ooh, different preference between sisters!" she started. "May I ask how old is Kiara? I also have a little sister, Elisa, and she wanted to be a Ravenclaw. Different taste too, just like you and your sister!"
