Scott had known they would have been late. He tried to tell his grandparents this ahead of time, constantly mentioning to them the time. But, of course, his observations were shot down with a stubborn laugh from his grandmother and a low grumble from his grandfather.

'I know where I'm going.' Do you grandfather? Do you really? Cause we just missed the turn once again. And, no yep, there goes grandmother mentioning said turn. Yet another five minutes wasted on the streets of London instead of at the train station. Where the train was due to leave in twenty minutes. And they still hadn't made it.

Scott loved them, but he almost had wished he had somehow ruffed it and walked his way to the train station himself. Sure that would have taken longer and was about a seven hour walk, but at least he had a better chance of getting to the train station on time.

Which, by the way, he didn't have much of at the moment. Ten minutes before departure, and Scott was rushing through the station, baggage rolling behind him and ticket clutched tightly in his left hand. Sliding between people, he breathed a sigh of relief at the familiar 9 3/4 platform sign. Thankfully his grandparents had taken him to see the platform earlier that month to avoid him getting lost to the train.

How his grandparents forgot that now was above him, but he wasn't going to ask any questions.

Taking in a deep breathe, he chanced a quick glance to the wall clock and the other passengers around. After a good moment, he steeled himself enough to take a running leap towards and through the field of the wall. It left him feeling strange as his stomach tied in knots and stretched uncomfortably before spitting him back out on the intended platform. Hand on his stomach, he moved out of the way of incoming traffic and quickly bled into the moving crowd that was heading towards the entrance way of the train.

Most of the way Scott had to slide by swinging arms, rolling baggage, and rushing families. It almost made him feel overwhelmed with how dense and constricted the crowd really was, most of all the people who towered over his own small frame. He wasn't used to this many people in one place, at home he never was around to many crowds to begin with, so it wasn't a big surprise to find his heart pounding due to the stimulation. He didn't mind people, but this, this was too much for him to take in. Which only motivated him more to rush and push past people in front of him in order to get on the train. And find a place to breathe.

Through his rush he had to stop multiple times to apologize to other kids or families that were saying goodbyes. Distantly he ignored the pain in his chest at the sight, knowing that his own family wouldn't be waving him off. Moving by, it took a couple of minutes before he was in line and couple of more minutes until he was in front of the uniformed man, his hand outstretched. With a small grin, Scott offered his ticket to the man, who only nodded and let him on board with his bags lightly bumping into the mans legs before moving further onto the train.

"Alright. All good. Um, ok. Just need to find a... seat..." Mumbling to himself, he glanced around the carts that were mostly filled by this point. Friends in most, spoke animatedly with one another or played small games on their person. Other carts were quieter, full with other students who either didn't want to speak or were to shy to do so. He tended to move passed those, more hoping to find an empty room rather than intruding. It took a bit, but eventually he spotted a relatively empty room with no bags or other students inside.

Breathing in a sigh of relief, he smiled at the newfound silence and shuffled inside. Taking a right seat closest to the window, he placed his down and peered out to the families outside. Unfortnately, despite his grandparents driving him there, they most likely wouldn't be able to see him off due to him rushing ahead of them. If they did manage to get there, then he would be sure to yell his goodbyes as loudly as he could.

For now though he pushed his bag away from the door, keeping a enough space for other passengers who needed a seat, and pulled out his thick and worn down book of 'Mythical Creatures: Guide to the Unexpected.'

Lola eagerly pushed her cart forward through King's Cross Station while loudly nagging for her older brother to hurry up. While she recognized that he was a very calm person in general, it still felt as if he was walking slow just in order to bug her. She stopped her cart with a sharp halt and turned around to wait him in as he'd fell too far behind once again. "Oliver, walking with you is absolutely unbearable" she groaned as he closed up. A sly, humored smile spread across his face. Perhaps she hadn't been entirely wrong about him messing with her. With a loud huff, she turned back around and picked up her pace again.

Finally, after a dreadfully slow-paced journey that felt like ages, they approached the platform. A family was already in the middle of running through, and as they passed right through the pillar Lola felt a rush of excitement run through her. What she'd been looking forward to all summer was finally starting to feel real. "Are you nervous?" Oliver asked and motioned towards her hands. They were shaking quite badly to her surprise, but how could they not with all the adrenaline surging through her? She shook her head in response and locked her eyes to the wall. "I'm going in first" She proclaimed.

Rather than waiting for Oliver to respond, she clutched her hands around the cart handles, pressed her eyes shut and began running. Her hands tingled as she heard her shoes click against the pavement and the anticipation of hitting the wall built up. The sensation of passing through the wall had not at all been what she'd expected. It had been a strange, uncomfortable feeling as opposed to what had been described to her, none the less it had certainly given her an endorphin rush.

As she opened her eyes and took in the view, she couldn't help but fill with incredible wonder. The place was bustling with energy. Families hugging and saying goodbye, friends reuniting after the summer, owls rustling in their cages and students hurrying onto the train. She even thought she saw a stray chocolate frog jump across the masses of people. While she did adore the atmosphere of the platform, the train itself was probably the biggest sight to behold. She didn't have a particular interest for locomotives, however, it was hard to deny that the bright red steam train was unremarkable.

Lola quickly collected herself as she remembered that she was in a hurry to move before Oliver would run through as well. She just barely got out of the way when she felt him swish by her. Lola quickly rolled up next to him and reached her hand out expectantly. He looked down at it. "No hug first?" he teased. Lola stared him down before finally giving up with a sigh and wrapping her arms around him. He gave her a brief hug back before finally handing over her ticket. "I'll see you later, right?" he smiled.

"Yeah yeah, see you later" she replied before turning around to check for the closest ticket line. As soon as she turned her back, however, she felt a small tug on her left braid. She looked down at it in surprise, only to find that the hairband had been tugged off. Lola snapped her head back with a glare, only to find Oliver teasingly holding up the hairband before hurrying over to his friends. "What's you issue?" She yelled after him in frustration. Big brothers are the worst.

She ran her hand over her braid, and sure enough it was coming lose without anything tying it together. With a shrug she let go of it as it couldn't be helped. The thought of pulling out the other braid crossed her mind, but was cut off when out of nowhere a boy pushed through, bumping her to the side. Lola looked up in surprise at the pale boy with reddish hair hurrying forward at a quick pace, apologizing as he went along. While a bit puzzled by his frantic behavior, she brushed herself off and kept on.

Lola peered into the cubicles as she moved her things along. She wanted to get into one with other first-years, preferably kind-looking ones. After looking into a good couple of either full cubicles or ones with older looking kids, she passed one with a familiar looking figure. She stopped and took a step back to do a double take, and sure enough.

"Hey, you're that kid who shoved me"

He had been on his favorite chapter, Kelpies: Demons of the Sea, when a curious voice broke through his concentration. To be honest he had almost jumped from the sudden closeness the voice had, seeing how he hadn't heard any approaching footsteps beforehand. At first he assumed it was just a voice from the cart next door, know weren't the quietest bunch but weren't blaring loud either. But, after a moment, and the continued silence, Scott could determine that the voice had been from the doorway of his cart.

Glancing up, he blinked and made a confused expression towards the girl who stared equally as curious back at him. Silently he mulled over her words, noting how he didn't remember ever crossing past this girl. Although, it wasn't like he had paid much attention in his rush. So it could be very understandable if one of the kids he had shoved past had been her.

Which, made him extremely guilty. And bad. And maybe a bit panicky. He really didn't need to start out the year looking like some inconsiderate jerk!

Putting down his book in his lap, making sure to keep his page open, he forced what he hoped didn't look like a pained smile. "Did I? I'm sorry, I was running late and knocked into a lot of people in my rush." Calmly, he made sure that his voice sounded as sincere as it could. Even if he had apologized already to everyone he knocked into, it couldn't really beat a face to face one. Glancing her over for a moment, he noted that she looked a bit, um, exhilarated to say the least. With her jittery movements, wind blown clothing and hair, she almost seemed like she had been running on a sugar high. Smiling a bit more widely, he noted that she must be an excited first year such as himself. It helped ease him to see someone so optimistic for the upcoming school year.

But then he saw her hair again. Watching how the locks lay in almost a messy way, the waves obvious next to her untouched braid on the other side. Frowning, he pointed it out apologetically. "I didn't mess your hair up did I?" And then his nerves struck. "Wait, please tell me I didn't push you down or anything. Like, I didn't leave you in the middle of the train station on floor right??"

The boy in the cubicle seemed to jump a bit at her voice, but didn't look up. He seemed to be deeply engrossed in a book and must've not noticed that she was talking to him. There was a fair amount of chattering from the nearby carts, so it hadn't been all too surprising seeing as he hadn't been expecting her. After a short moment he looked up in confusion. It seemed to take him yet another moment to connect what she had said, and for a short second he looked panicked. Lola hadn't intended to bother him or make him feel bad, she'd only said what had come to mind. As usual she had spoken without thinking through how it might come across.

He put the book down carefully. Her eyes curiously glanced down towards it, but it was too far away for her to make out what it was about. When she looked back up at him again, he smiled politely. "Did I? I'm sorry, I was running late and knocked into a lot of people in my rush.". He seemed to be genuinely apologetic judging by the tone of his voice. She really hadn't minded being bumped into earlier. There had been a lot of people on the platform, and frankly she couldn't count how many times she'd done the same thing herself in order to not have to walk behind slower crowds.

"I didn't mess your hair up did I?" he continued. "Wait, please tell me I didn't push you down or anything. Like, I didn't leave you in the middle of the train station on floor right??".

She must've really looked even less put together than she'd originally thought. "Oh no, you don't have to apologize. I just happened to recognize you" she laughed. "I didn't fall or anything like that, so don't worry about it. My hair was already a mess by then".

Lola stopped for a second and glanced around the empty cart, still neat with only what appeared to be the boy's belongings. Lugging her things around was getting tiresome, and he seemed to be nice enough. "Is it alright if I join you?" she asked politely, yet before giving him a chance to answer she was already putting down her things and settling in on the seat opposite of him. She gave him a wide smile. "I'm Lola by the way, a first year. It's very nice to meet you!" She reached her hand out towards him.

Inwardly Scott heaved a sigh of relief, her answer calming him down from his previous worry. At least now he knew he wasn't responsible for the girl getting injured in any sort of way. Frown quickly turning into a smile, he listened intently to her reassurances.

Thankfully, due to her response, the girl seemed nice enough to him. Granted, Scott had thought that he would have had his ear shouted off because of his recklessness, so he really didn't have much to go by then. Scott was only the more happier to know that she was the laid-back sort of type and hadn't taken his shove to heart.

"Is it alright if I join you" At this Scott stopped and looked her over. Grinning brightly, he opened his to mouth to openly agree, only to leave it open when she saddled in and sat across from him anyway. Huh. Closing his mouth, his smile softened at her excitement, watching her lean over and hold her hand out towards him. "I'm Lola by the way, a first year. It's very nice to meet you!"

Matching her wide smile, he took her hand into his own, giving it a firm shake in greeting. "Prescott. First year. But please, call me Scott! I'm glad to meet you Lola!" Happily he gave her hand one more shake before letting it go.

Oh man! Another first year! Someone who is as new to this as he was! That information made the weight on his chest lighter in comparison. He had uncomfortable with the older students, unsure how they would look on him for being so young. At least back in his old school the older kids normally looked down on the youngerlings. Of course going to Hogwarts might be a different story, but really it was better to be careful.

Tapping, his fingers against his book, he couldn't help but to look back to her unbraided section. Such a shame really. Her hair, at least the one side that was still braid, looked really nice. And, perhaps it was his slight case of OCD. Not to mention some form of guilt. And yes, he knew that she said it hadn't been his fault. But, he couldn't help but bring mention to it.

"Hey.. uh. If you want.. I can fix that for you." Wait.... that sounded really weird didn't it? "I mean... if you're cool with that..." Dude, mouth, stop talking. "Not like your hair looks bad because it doesn't!" He smiled bashfully, inwardly cringing. Clearing, his throat, he tapped his fingers against the worn leather of his book once again, a playful tune that calmed his nerves. "Sorry, I'm making it sound weirder than I'm trying too. I usually do my younger sisters hair, and she normally hates when the braids fall out. I just thought you might want yours fixed?"

Shrugging, he offered her an awkward grin before fixing his glasses that tried to fall from his nose and playfully adding, "Although you don't seem too worried about that, seeing how excited you were getting on the train."

Another year, another possible nightmare. But Mari was hopeful. This year, things would be different; this year, her sister, her best friend, would be accompanying her to Hogwarts.

Lucy had been off all summer, spending more time with the Muggle classmates she would have to abandon for Hogwarts before she went off to "that boarding school" Mari went to. The only moment that Mari had really captured her sister's attention was that first night, when she finally revealed that she had a boyfriend, @Lamik Fillestar. But once Lucy had found out the real reason Mari and Lamik were in love, she hadn't been too impressed. As a result, Mari spent more time with her six-year-old sister, Grace, instead.

Even after she had gotten bitten, Lucy was still absent. Mum and Dad had enrolled Mari in a wildly unsuccessful set of therapy sessions after the biting; Mari shouldn't have been surprised that a Muggle therapist couldn't fully wrap her head around why "boarding school" was so difficult. Eventually I'll make a solo about this. Instead, they had been trapped into discussions of her family, and the therapist had suggested that Mari tell her sister how she felt. But how could she tell your sister that all she wanted, after turning into a werewolf, was her sister to ditch all of her friends when she was about to leave them and join her sister at Hogwarts for the year? It certainly didn't seem fair.

So she had spent her summer in solitude: a feeling quite familiar to Mari, as she had spent much of her first year in this same state. Time did not fly, not only because she wasn't having fun, but also because she had lain awake many nights, rehashing the nightmares of her past.

It was thus of no surprise to anyone who knew Mari or what she had been through that the girl appeared to be, quite frankly, a disaster on the first of September. Her normally wavy brown hair was knotted, unwashed, and unkempt overall. Her eyes were sunken, heavily lidded by the lack of sleep. Her robes were tattered, much to her mother's dismay - a reminder of her past. The rest of her family looked normal, but Mari was ready to accept her fate: second year had arrived.

Mari watched her younger sister carefully as she took in the sights of the Hogwarts Express. This time last year, she had known she'd likely go to Hogwarts herself, but now, it was a reality. Lucy's big brown eyes took in the sights with a hunger Mari wished she still had. She craved the sense of innocence that she had had in her first year; a passerby would note that while the taller Haynes daughter looked excited, the older looked on the brink of tears.

"Um," Mari sighed, avoiding eye contact with her family as she hastily presented them with hugs. "Luce, take your time, but I'm going to go on the train now...meet me? Bye Mum, Dad, Grace, I'll...I'll write, of course."

With a lackluster swoop of her robes, Mari made her way onto the train and away from her family. She spent quite a bit of time wandering the corridors, acknowledging the scenes of friends from years' past reconnecting about their summers, while she instead sunk further into the only small shadow she could find on the train. When the crowds had dispersed slightly and she had succumbed to the fact that Lucy was nowhere in sight, the Hufflepuff slinked into a random compartment, hoping that whoever greeted her there wouldn't hurt her.

The summer had weakened Mari in some ways; at the end of her first year, she had been poised to attack, but for now, she was weakened. She hadn't been able to antagonize anyone in her life; she would never hate her family. The only other person she had really interacted with that summer was that Muggle therapist and heck, there was a barrier that was too strong for Mari to hate her. It would take the dark-haired girl a moment before she could remember how to fight.

As she opened the door, she heard the boy respond to his train companion, "Hey.. uh. If you want.. I can fix that for you. Not like your hair looks bad because it doesn't! Sorry, I'm making it sound weirder than I'm trying too. I usually do my younger sisters hair, and she normally hates when the braids fall out. I just thought you might want yours fixed?"

Uh...was it too late to go find her boyfriend? But actually... this kid seemed helpful, like he would be a good replacement for the idiot Gryffindor she had not wanted to seduce but did. She subconsciously toyed at her hair as the redhead spoke of hair and wondered if he could maybe get the bee's nest out of her hair. Maybe. There was potential, here. She was about ready to dump Lamik, anyway. He served his purpose.

Without saying any words, Mari hopped down onto a seat near the duo and smiled weakly. She couldn't mess this up. If she was really going to get the boy on her good side, she had to be nice. "Are you two first years? I'm actually going into my second, but it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Joy Marianna Haynes. Hufflepuff. Second year, as I said. It's a pleasure to meet you both."

She extended her hand and continued to give the two a warm smile, though internally her gears were working as to how to get the boy on her good side so that she could maybe, perhaps, have a new kid to help her throughout her second year at Hogwarts.

Scott really hoped he hadn't messed anything up with his blunder. Sure, Lola seemed like a nice enough girl to forgive him for the shove. And maybe she would even be nice enough to not think he was weird for offering to fix her hair. He knew that outright asking someone to fix their anything, and they weren't family or friends, could make the suggestion sound strange. So, really. he hoped she wouldn't find him too odd. Perhaps even be understanding or show gratitude for his offer, even if she ended up saying no.

He didn't have much of a chance to catch her answer when the sound of the door to their cart slid open and another weight plopped down on the seat near them. Curious, Scott turned his attention to the arrival, soaking in the character before him.

A tired looking girl sat before them, her eyes heavy with bags that slightly hung underneath slightly red eyes. Scott had to wonder if she had gotten any sleep recently, to which he politely kept to himself. Or gotten any new clothes. Or really taken care of herself. She almost seemed dead if that was possible. If he didn't know any better, he would have thought she had come back from a fight and spent the rest of the night staying awake to avoid anymore attacks. It made him frown in concern for the stranger, noticing how she slumped in exhaustion. And he thought he received no sleep last night.

Perhaps she had been just as nervous as he had been for the school year.

And then, her face brightened up as a warm smile crossed her face, melting the harshness that had resided there and gave it a softer look. Scott smiled back out of habit, pleasantly surprised that this tired and worn out stranger had the strength to smile and greet both of them warmly. It really made him all the more comfortable and curious about who this person was, listening intently as she introduced herself.

"Are you two first years? I'm actually going into my second, but it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Joy Marianna Haynes. Hufflepuff. Second year, as I said. It's a pleasure to meet you both." A then a hand was offered to the duo, which, after a moment of glancing at Lola, Scott took first and shook firmly. Returning the warm smile, he pulled back to allow Lola to shake as well before replying with a more confident tone.

"Yeah actually. Fresh meat and all that to Hogwarts. My names Prescott. Well officially, but please call me Scott." His hand came up and pulled down his glasses, tucking them until they fit into the collar of his shirt. Not like he would be needing them, if he was talking with someone after all. " It a pleasure to meet you too Joy." After a moment, his grin turned nervous and bashful, if not all the more playful. "And hopefully you weren't one of the people I ran over on the way to train."

"Prescott. First year. But please, call me Scott! I'm glad to meet you Lola!" the boy smiled softly as he shook her hand. Scott seemed much more at ease than he had just a moment ago, which in turn made her feel more comfortable as well. It was always nice to find new people that made you feel at ease. He had a very calm aura to him, even when he'd appeared a bit stressed earlier, and although she was still excited for the coming year, the calmness had rubbed off on her too.

Lola had spent her whole summer dreaming up fun adventures, the friends she'd make along the way and the spells she'd finally get to cast herself. The wait had only gotten worse after her visit to Olivanders. Now that she was properly on her way and meeting new people, the stress of it all rushed off of her and the knot in her stomach came lose. There was no need to dream and wonder anymore, now that the time was here.

"Hey.. uh. If you want.. I can fix that for you." Scott offered awkwardly, clearly referring to her hair. She paused for a moment at the strange offer. While it didn't bother her all that much, she thought it would've been nice having her hair done properly, rather than pulling the other tie out as well and letting it hang loose. Before she could answer, he continued "I mean... if you're cool with that...". He sent her a bashful smile. "Not like your hair looks bad because it doesn't!". A small laugh almost slipped through as she tried to suppress it. It was both sweet and funny how careful he was not to be misinterpreted. He tapped his finger on his book, seemingly taking a moment to step back and breathe. "Sorry, I'm making it sound weirder than I'm trying too. I usually do my younger sisters hair, and she normally hates when the braids fall out. I just thought you might want yours fixed?" He explained. "Although you don't seem too worried about that, seeing how excited you were getting on the train."

Lola barely got time to open her mouth when a girl slinked in through the door and hopped down on a seat with a weak smile. "Are you two first years? I'm actually going into my second, but it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Joy Marianna Haynes. Hufflepuff. Second year, as I said. It's a pleasure to meet you both." The girl said politely as she reached out a hand for them to shake. Scott took it first and gave it a steady shake, which Lola followed by doing the same.

While Joy acted as if nothing was out of the ordinary, she looked like she'd gone to war just before getting on the train. Her clothes were tattered, her hair messy and she looked over all exhausted. If she was as worn out as she looked, it was impressive she could stand, let alone make it to the train. The miserable expression she'd had when entering made her name seem a bit ironic.

"Yeah actually. Fresh meat and all that to Hogwarts. My names Prescott. Well officially, but please call me Scott." Scott replied. He took his glasses off and shut his book properly, probably knowing he wouldn't get far into his reading with both Lola and Joy in the cart. "It's a pleasure to meet you too Joy." He gave a playful smile and continued "And hopefully you weren't one of the people I ran over on the way to train."

Lola sent him an amused look before shifting her focus back over to Joy. "My name is Lola, I'm a first year too. I hope you don't mind sitting with us, even though we're a bit younger." Lola knew that asking was probably not too good of an idea, but the curiosity of why Joy looked so disheveled was still burning through her. Even though it was only a year between the two of them, it felt as if Joy had lived half a lifetime longer than her. "If you're a second year you must already be sorted, right?" she asked, trying not to sound too eager. "What's your house?".

The discussion of meat made Mari's mouth water. She had become quite a big fan of meat ever since that fated July day, and it seemed that even the mention would fix her mind on the concept on a nice, bloodied steak. Unfortunately, this was one of the first times Mari had been somewhere without food readily available, so she'd just have to sit with that hunger for a while.

"Ah, nice to meet you then Scott and Lola," Mari murmured, trying to focus her eyes outside so as to distract from the feeling of hunger that was impeding her concentration in the conversation. She briefly turned her glance to the boy to say, "Oh, my name is actually Mari, though. I go by my middle name. Haven't had someone call me Joy since I was small!"

They didn't need to know the details, that "Joy" was the identity of a girl who had happiness sucked from her when her parents separated. Though they had reunited, the damage had been done, and Mari had taken her place. As Mari pondered the change in identity of her past, she wondered if that day was when she destined herself to a life of such misery. Would Joy have been able to thrive her first year at Hogwarts? Would Joy be a werewolf right now? Lucy had turned out okay, but Mari... to be quite honest, Mari was a disaster. But Lucy had kept her name, hadn't changed herself like Mari had so long ago. Maybe that was the reason why she was so popular, so friendly, so beautiful...whereas Mari was nothing.

The scene before her moved quite quickly as she grew lost in these thoughts, lulling her eyelids to meet for a prolonged second. The Hufflepuff jolted; the quick burst of energy reminded her that the girl had asked another question. She had been eager, and though Mari had not loved her first year at Hogwarts, she hoped that the pregnant pause did not ruin the sensation for the girl. Word choice would be important here, to protect the excited expectations of this girl. Luckily, the question was quite simple. "Hufflepuff," Mari said, perking up a bit as she added, "I'm the fifth prefect actually. I...um...don't know where my badge is at this moment, but it's somewhere. I'll find it before we get to Hogwarts. I'm sure it'll be fine, people know I'm a prefect and all."

She had remembered when her Head of House, Professor Browne, had offered to give her a task the last year. He still hadn't, and while that was quite peculiar, Mari knew that she would have to find time to ask him personally if he needed any assistance with the coming year. All those other Hufflepuff prefects seemed to be slackers, they rotated so quickly, so he would certainly need some help. Especially from someone so knowledgeable as herself! If any of those first years got hurt, Mari was practically an expert in being able to assist, having been hurt many times herself.

Speaking of first years, wasn't she trying to find a new boyfriend anyway? She didn't want to be rude to Lola, but Mari needed to scope him out. "So," she said, turning to Prescott, but still speaking to both, "What house do you guys want to be in?"

If he said Gryffindor, that might be a sign. Her (almost) ex-boyfriend, @Lamik Fillestar was a Gryffindor, and she did not want to deal with such a dumb house again. Or at least, right now. Maybe when she was actually dating for real she would find a lover in Gryffindor. Or maybe she would just swear off boys altogether when her fake boyfriends all proved that boys are useless and, quite frankly, smell bad.

Her stomach growled before she could think of more awful things about boys, fake-boyfriends or not, which was probably for the better because she still had a habit of puking just a bit whenever she thought about having to kiss Lamik. Now completely ignoring Lola altogether, she asked Prescott meekly, "Er...do you have anything to eat? Maybe something with meat? All that talk got me hungry, I don't really know why..."

Of course she knew why, but Mari wasn't about to spill quite possibly one of the worst moments of her life to these children before they went to a place that they probably felt was the "most magical place on earth." She just hoped that Scott would maybe have something to eat, so she could have a real reason to try to win him over without completely being rude to the other girl.

Y'all I'm sorry Mari is a mess lol, but as I do with most of the posts that involve this plotline, Mari is not a prefect and I wish no such implications that I have power as Mari with this post.

Scott’s smile only grew as the girl responded with a quiet murmur, her concentration clearly focused out the window. Silently, he looked her over, noting how dead on her feet she looked. Her eyes didn’t nearly have the shine that they should and only looked more and more distant the longer she looked out the window. Slightly frowning, he silently hoped the girl could catch on some small amount of sleep during the train ride. She looked like she could really need.

Shaking out of his own thoughts, he realizes that she glanced his way and her eyes were more coherent now. At least a bit more than had been. And he was a bit surprised at her correction. Scott hadn’t met another person who, like himself, prefered a different name to their own given one. True, his nickname was just a shortened version of his actual name, but it made it more personal to have someone call him Scott over Prescott. And he was more than willing to succumb to her own preference. Softly, he grinned and politely nodded to show her that he had heard her, even if she had started looking out the window once again. “Mari then. Still a pleasure to meet you.”

Sitting back, he watched as Lola leaned closer to the other, her eyes comically large, and in his opinion, sparkling with curiosity. Suppressing a laugh from Lola’s barely contained excitement, he too looked at Mari with eagerness in his eyes. Scott had only heard a few things at the Houses, but he at least knew their names and what they were mostly known for. It would be all the more great to get an idea of what someone from one of these houses were like.

"Hufflepuff,"He noticed that her attention was once again thrust back on them, almost like she was having a hard time focusing on anything at the moment.  “I'm the fifth prefect actually. I...um...don't know where my badge is at this moment, but it's somewhere. I'll find it before we get to Hogwarts. I'm sure it'll be fine, people know I'm a prefect and all."

Hufflepuff huh? Looking up, he tried to rack his brain for what he knew about the house.Scott wasn’t too surprised about that actually. Due to her warm introduction and personally welcoming personality, despite looking like she could kneel over at any moment, she fits the Hufflepuff stereotype. Open and friendly, even to complete strangers.

He couldn’t think too deeply about it before she was questioning the both of them of what house they wanted to be in. Which was a bit difficult for Scott to even think about since he personally didn’t mind which house he was sorted into. He was sure he could fit into whatever house that the hat gave him, not to mention that he didn’t particularly believe in the stereotypes he heard about some of the houses. But, he could see where he fit in some houses better than others if he only went on the little info that he had.

Ravenclaws were typically the witty and intelligent type, valuing knowledge and wisdom over much of anything else. He too was a curious type and often wishes to learn and understand whatever he could. However, he knew, despite all the books he reads, he didn’t value knowledge the same way as they probably did. Scott only did it for better understanding and child like curiosity. He couldn’t see himself using his knowledge for anything else other than that.

Slytherin, on the other hand, was heavily valued for their ‘purity’, cunning persona, and ambitious nature. Despite their bad reputation, Scott couldn’t help but think that the house, and in turn the kids in the house, weren’t as bad as people say. Actually, Scott respected the idea that they were ambitious and willing to do anything to achieve their goals. Preferably in a good way of course. Scott himself could consider himself ambitious too. But when it came to much of anything else, he didn’t see himself fitting too well into the house, as he wasn’t nearly as cunning as most Slytherins could be. Honestly, being an open book really breaks that idea in general.

Gryffindors, however, were valued for their valor and chivalry. He knew that Gryffindors were also considered the fan favorite among younger children and parents who spoke about Hogwarts at all. He could understand in a way, as they represented a humble goal of protecting others and standing tall in a fight. Scott couldn’t lie. He wasn’t nearly as courageous as what most people could be. He would like to think he could and would protect those around him, especially if they were his family. But he didn’t feel like Gryffindor really fit him, and he wasn’t looking to force himself anywhere.

Now Hufflepuffs were valued for their loyalty and kindness. Really that was self-explanatory. And in most people’s opinion, the weakest or plainest of the houses. Which to Scott, was a bit unfair. Like it was unfair for people to consider all Slytherins evil or Gryffindors reckless or Ravenclaw snotty. Scott never really likes the stereotypes that others give the houses due to some individuals actions. So, to him, Hufflepuffs were just as important as the others were and personally, the most relatable for him. And really, he felt like he would be welcomed despite who he was in there.

Biting his lip in thought, he only shrugged as he looked at Mari. “I’m not too picky really. But if I had to choose, I think I would fit best in Hufflepuff too.” Again he shrugged as it really wasn’t that important to him, but he wanted to respect Mari’s question as it seemed like she was pretty curious about what they thought. “Especially if they’re as welcoming as you have been, then I wouldn’t mind becoming a badger.” Afterwards, he sat quietly and listened to Lola’s answer, wondering if she thought similarly and where she hoped to be placed too.

He would have said something more if the sound of a growling stomach hadn’t caught his attention. For a moment, he had thought his own stomach had made the sound. But after a moment without feeling the familiar pang of hunger, he knew it hadn’t been his own. Actually, it was Mari’s meek and slightly embarrassed expression that clued him in that the sound had come from her. Which made his smile disappear into a concerned frown, now focusing on how thin the other seemed now. And her meek question about whether he had food almost broke his bleeding heart.

Scott might be exaggerating a bit, but his caring nature was quickly overcoming his other thoughts and he was softly smiling and reaching for his bag before he could think about it. “Of course. I made myself a lunch bag before leaving this morning.” Shuffling through his bag, he inwardly hoped his grandparents had packed something he could give Mari. He wasn’t too hungry to begin with, so he was more than willing to offer whatever he had until they got to the school. He had heard there would be a banquet after all.

Pulling up a black bag, he opened it and peered through the assortment of goods he had. Humming, he chanced a glance at Mari before he pulled out a wrapped package and offered it to her. “I don’t have much in the meat department, but this is a roast beef sandwich if that is alright with you.” Turning to Lola, he offered her a smile and tilted his head towards the bag. “You want something to eat too Lola? I have plenty to share.”

That's cool. And no worries about Mari, she is honestly super interesting!
Apologies on my part though, I write a lot sometimes, so if any of you want me to calm down on the length I'll do that. :)
