A needed distraction.
Alyssa wandered into the library, she had a few books in her hands. She chose her favorite spot, it was hidden away from the rest of the library. It had been weeks since she had spoken to anyone, after the letter that she received from her brother, she had thrown herself into her work. She made sure that she received the highest marks possible for all of her subjects.
It had been hard work but she had retained an O average thus far. She enjoyed charms class because the professor seemed impressed with her dedication to the subject. She would sneak a smile when approval was given, but this she knew would not become true happiness. She had shied away from the friends that she made, it seemed like it it would only make things worse for her.
She carefully placed her books down in front of her. She remembered that she needed to focus on the Transfiguration homework, it was a subject that was causing her to have sleepless nights, but she has improved since her first assessment.
She opened her textbook on the appropriate page and took out her quill and parchment. She had to do research on what the professor discussed in the lesson. She stood up from her desk and walked to the rows of books, her finger glided over the backs of the books as she searched for the appropriate material. Her eyes fell on the book that she was looking for, she carefully took it out of shelf and walked back to her table.
The hours seemed to pass quickly when she worked in the library, it was dark and she knew that she would not have a lot of time left. A sigh escaped her lips as she refocused on the work in front of her.

A needed distraction.
Luna entered the library, its bookshelves reaching high towards the ceiling and students milling and chatting about. Luna started wandering around the library, getting lost in the smell and look of old books. She'd always felt at home surrounded by knowledge and wisdom, despite being sorted into Hufflepuff. Luna had her mind set on one book, despite being drawn towards others here and there. Luna turned a corner saw the book she was looking for a little way ahead. She was slowly walking towards it until she noticed a girl who looked about her age reaching to take the book out of the shelf. She was a Gryffindor, given that she was wearing the house colors. The girl then walked over to a desk and sat down. The students around her didn't seem to notice that she was sitting all by herself. The girl seemed to be focused on some homework and let out a sigh. Luna felt bad for the girl and decided that she would try become friends with her. Luna quickly grabbed a random book off of a nearby shelf to not look dumb just standing there and staring and then walked over to where the girl was sitting. She sat down in a chair close to the girl, flipping open the book. Luna began half-reading and half-peeking at the Gryffindor girl, observing what she was doing. The homework she was doing seemed to be for a Transfiguration class and was proving to be a tad difficult for the girl. After a few minutes of this, Luna turned to the girl and asked, "Hey, do you need help with your homework? You seem to be struggling a bit."
I hope we'll be the best of friends ~

A needed distraction.
She peered up from her homework, surprised that someone had come this far into the library, most of the students enjoyed the tables closer to the exit. For a moment she wondered why, the thought evaporated after she noticed that the girl was staring intent at her. She had asked her whether she needed help with her homework. A frown formed on her forehead as she looked down at her Transfiguration homework.
"Uhm, it's quite all right. I have been trying to improve by paying more attention to the details that I add to the activities." She chuckled softly. "I have been told that although I answer my questions correctly, I do not put enough effort into it, which is absolutely wrong since I have been spending time with my homework more often than with anything else." She shook her head softly.
She lowered her quill and closed the ink pot in front of her. She yawned behind her hand, reading always had a way of tiring her out, especially if she was searching for answers the books never had.
"Are you enjoying your house?" she asked as she noticed the Hufflepuff badge on her robes. She had not met any students from this house, it seemed like they kept themselves scares. She tilted her head to the side as she waited for a response.

A needed distraction.
Elizabeth ran into the library needing to rest. She had the worst day in potions contradicting herself. She wandered to the far back looking for a place to sit and maybe someone to be friends with. She noticed two girls talking to each other.
She didn't want to bother but needed to make a new friend ans she needed to be confident. She almost dropped her book as she walked over. "What is wrong with me?!" she thought. "I used to have tons of friends at my muggle school." But she knew the reason.
Ever since those boys shoved her against the wall and started bad mouthing her dead mum she lost trust and confidence. Now that she thought about it her friends had shifted away from her after the incident. "I need to give them a chance they can't call me a freak because I am just like them, and they aren't in slytherin so they won't make fun of her dead mum. "Maybe I can take a chance" She thought.
She then saw that one was working on transfiguration and the other was trying to talk to her. The one working on the homework she noticed was a fellow gryffindor but being new she had no idea what her name was. She sighed as she worked up the courage to walk over and introduce herself. She started off with a simple "I was looking for some company do you mind if I sit here and hang out with you, I have also finished that homework if you need any help. By the way my name is Elizabeth but you can call me Eliza.

"Yes, I quite like my house. Everyone is so friendly. I mean, what would you expect from Hufflepuffs?" Luna answered, smiling warmly.
Just then, another Gryffindor who seemed to be of the same age as the other two girls approached the table and said, "I was looking for some company do you mind if I sit here and hang out with you, I have also finished that homework if you need any help. By the way my name is Elizabeth but you can call me Eliza."
"Oh! Hello," Luna replied, delighted to have met another fellow student, "I'm sure we'd be more than pleased to have another student join us. Like they say, 'the more the merrier'!"
Luna smiled brightly at the prospect of getting to make another friend and quickly motioned for Elizabeth, or, rather, Eliza to sit. Luna, still smiling, turned to the other Gryffindor girl and her face started to change into a look of deep concentration, like she was trying to remember something. Then, suddenly, she exclaimed, "Ah! I was so caught up in welcoming Eliza that I totally forgot! I needed to introduce myself! How impolite of me. My name is Luna Starcatcher, what's yours?"

A needed distraction.
Vivienne was in the library reading. Maybe she should've been studying but she felt like she had done enough of that for the past few weeks. She had shifted from different "personalities" over the first months of being at the school, from hunched-over-homework to frenzied-for-friends to grouchiest-grinch. It was probably the puberty the seemed to hit super early but at the moment she just felt like chilling and doing next to nothing.
It helped that the seat she was sitting in was extremely comfortable, almost like sinking into the mushiest marshmallow, though the fabric was a little scratchy. She was reading a mystery book about some boys trying to find a beautiful elf princess only to find out she was the dragon king in disguise who had kidnapped their sister and frozen her in ice.
Sometimes she would look up from the mildly interesting story to take a glimpse of her surroundings. It was mostly full of pages turning and the soft hum of students whispering in the quiet library.
Well, it was quiet for a delicate moment. A Gryffindor girl sat at a table nearby her but Vivienne ducked her head so she wouldn't draw attention to herself by staring openly. She proceeded to peek over her cover, watching the girl. She quickly lost interest, and simultaneously sighed with the girl, going back to her book.
She heard someone speak to the girl. She looked up once more to see a Hufflepuff, a giddy-looking one at that. Vivienne liked the Badgers, they were usually really fun to be around.
Yet another girl came over, another Gryffindor. The girl's introduced themselves as Elizabeth and Luna. Vivenne for this funny, it was like watching a weird kid's TV show, the ones she watched at her muggle-friend's house.
As a result of her quiet snickering Vivienne's book slipped out of her hands and hit the floor with a loud thump.
Her face turned pink as she reached for it, picking it up quickly. She glanced over at the girl's but decided to stick to reading her book. She wasn't really interested in talking at the moment, or at least that's what she told herself.

A needed distraction.
A soft smile formed on her lips as she looked over at the girl from Gryffindor. She seemed a bit winded, but it seemed familiar to her, running to get to class on time, making sure all homework has been done, she understood.
"Hello, Elizabeth, I am Alyssa. I have seen you in some of the classes, but I try not to talk to much, I would not want to get on the bad side of the professors."
She looked over at her Transfigurations homework, she had gotten far, she only had the last question to answer, they were lucky though, this homework only had to be done in the next two days, but she did not like to be tardy. She did her homework the day she received it.
Her attention turned back to the Hufflepuff girl who introduced herself as Luna. She frowned as she contemplated her own question, she had not had much time when it came to meeting the students from her own house, a few has come on her path but she did not really keep up with them. The sudden crash of a book caught her attention, her eyes wandered over to the Ravenclaw girl, she was half hidden behind the chair, but she knew the sound came from her direction, she tilted her head to the side, it seemed very clumsy of her. She frowned wondering what had made her drop the book. She shook her head and turned her attention back to the book in front of her.

Luna heard the book crash too, whipping her head in the direction of the noise. She saw a Ravenclaw quickly pick up the book, blushing lightly. The Ravenclaw glanced at the group of girls briefly before returning to her book, not noticing that Luna was staring. Luna quickly looked back at the other two girls, saying "Alyssa...that's a good name. I was always quite fond of the name Alyssa. Do you guys see that Ravenclaw? Sitting just over there? She looked like she wanted to talk to us. What do you guys think? Should we go greet her?"
Luna hoped that the other girls would say yes. She believed that everyone should have people that they were comfortable with. Luna was the kinda person who gets distracted easily and is kinda all over the place. But that was one of her most admirable traits, or so she was told. Luna looked again at the Ravenclaw girl, who was still focused intensely on her book, wondering if making friends with her would go smoothly. Luna then turned back to the other two girls, eyes sparkling with excitement and smiling from ear to ear, waiting for an answer from either of them.

"Yes I would love to, I don't have many friends so I think this would be a great opportunity, oh and nice to meet you Alyssa I don't talk much in class either." Elizabeth then remembered that she left a book in the hallway. "I will be right back I am going to finish my work in the hallway but I will be back in five. She jumped up not letting either girls say anything. She ran out of the library and down the hallway. Elizabeth was now running down the hallway minding her own business. She had to get back to the library and had to do the remainder of her homework out here. She sighed and since this was her free period and the hallway was empty she slid down and leaned against the wall pulling out her homework. "Potions homework is the worst" She whispered out loud. She was very deep in thought and questioning her every answer. She groaned wishing she was a ravenclaw. She finished and put her homework inside her bag before she heard it. She wished she didn't but she heard it. A guy was catcalling her. The flashback of the moment when the group of guys pushed her up against the wall and made fun of her dead mum appeared in her mind. She decided to let it go until he called to a group of boys behind him who all smiled evilly before cornering her and pushing her into a deserted classroom. She noticed they were all Slytherins but almost fell in shock once she saw who one of the boys was. It was the leader of the group who had made fun of her and her mum. She could see the hatred in his eyes as the other boys shut and locked the classroom door making sure that no one could come in. The guy walked up and stated "Time to finished what I started you filthy mudblood." He motioned for the other guys to hold her down before he raised his fist and punched her three times in the face. One in her right eye and two on her nose. She knew it wasn't broken but it was bleeding like crazy. "I hope next time you will think before you dump garbage on me making me look like a fool." He laughed but then said "Oh and if you tell anyone what happened it will be much worse." With that him and the other guys released Elizabeth and left. She crumbled to the floor crying silently. She got up and decided to go back to the library and tell them what happened. She walked out of the room getting a couple concerned looks before she raced down the hallway again this time with all her stuff. When she arrived at the library she saw their horrified faces and she sat down and started sobbing telling them what happened.

Elizabeth had agreed to go talk to the Ravenclaw girl and Luna was very happy to hear that. Luna was smiling at the thought of already getting to know and make so many friends when Eliza suddenly said, "I will be right back I am going to finish my work in the hallway but I will be back in five."
She got up from the table and ran out to the hallway. I hope she'll be okay out there by herself. Luna thought. She was already starting to get worried when Eliza left and didn't come back for a while. Luna was chewing her nails, trying to calm her nerves. She was just about to get up to go look for her when Eliza came running back to the table. Luna was filled with relief as she saw the girl approaching, but her eyes soon widened in surprise as she saw the girl's face. Eliza had tears running down her face, a bruised black eye, and a bloody nose. "Oh my goodness!" Luna exclaimed, horrified, "What happened out there? Who did this to you?" Luna cried in shock, examining the girl's face with a look of deep concern on her face.
