The World's Mine Oyster  solo   finished
Uncle Jean was a tall man; nearly all skin and bones. His eyes were sunken in, more so than the last time that Alexx had seen him. As he neared the age of 40, he seemed to be more and more tired. But he treated Alexx with kindness, and offered her a soft smile over breakfast. He showered her with gifts, always keeping her close to his side. Uncle Jean understood the fear that his niece had of New Orleans.

Texas, however, was not appreciative of him stealing his precious little sister. Mikey had instructed the young man to keep Alexx close to his side. His job had been stolen by his own family member! While he supposed that he should have been grateful, seeing as though this opened the opportunity for him to run wild, chasing tails around the city, he was not. For the Séverin clan, this was no time for fun and games.

But the blonde girl couldn't help but soak it all up. The attention rained down upon her, and she was loving every minute of it. How desperately had she missed being spoiled! Her uncle was the giver, but her other family members were not so keen on adhering to her every wish. Instead, they had the philosophy that every child should be treated like every human. Pressed into the realization that things could not always go their way.

While Alexx was a realist for sure, and she definitely fronted that at school (during her time of authority), she was not so much the same at home. She took her time when it came to getting what she wanted. Stomping a foot down and demanding. It was not as if the family did not have enough money! Even her mother, who was suffering through a divorce, still had loads to spare. Alexx was not going to be without anytime soon. Her life was practically set (though the money leaned mostly in the favor of Mikey, the heir to both sides).

It could not be said that Alexx was incapable, however. She was most certainly competent enough to do things herself. She just found it to be so much more fun when others did it for her! She had to be away for a whole school year, looking out for herself (and others), so why not be pampered when she made her return?

This was usually Mikey's doing. He loved his siblings, but he was the closest with Alexx. Unlike Tex, she wasn't reckless. And she was much older and much more mature than Emaline. So, all things considered, the 19-year-old was able to confide in his little sister the easiest. This also meant that he naturally leaned in her favor.

Uncle Jean and Mikey were very similar, and Alexx noticed that this morning at breakfast. "Sleep well?" Her uncle asked. His French accent had almost faded, though living in New Orleans kept it alive. But she could tell that it was not as strong as it probably once was. She had always meant to ask why it was that the family moved to the states.

Nodding, she smiled, taking a bite of her pancake. "Oui! Je n'ai! Et vous? She responded, flashing a pair of pearly white teeth at him.

Jean hummed, nodding. "Good to hear. What would you like to do today?" Alexx hadn't quite picked up on the way that he avoided the question. Mikey always did the same thing, never wanting to worry his siblings. They had enough on their mind already. In a way, Jean knew this too, so he didn't do anything to intentionally upset Alexx.

Pursing her lips as she chewed, Alexx thought about it. "Whatever Tex wants to do." She finally decided, smiling weakly. Though she was appreciating everything that her uncle was doing for her, she still found herself clinging to her older brother.

Tex was good. Hard-shelled, almost cold, and a bit of a rebel. He didn't care to show up to Hogwarts anymore, and in fact, he even stopped going altogether. Once a budding star Quidditch player for Slytherin, but he turned away from the school as he aged. It was sad, because they all agreed that he could easily become a pro. Tex, however, was beginning to resent the world. He spent less time at home, and was found roaming the streets. But at the end of the day, he loved his siblings. That was why he agreed to take Alexx to America while Mikey got everything at home sorted out. Tex felt bad for him, because Mikey was carrying a weight on his shoulders that the other three would never have to.

Sighing, Jean leaned back in his chair. "You are allowed to be your own person, you know," He told her, pausing at the end, almost as if he had more to say. You don't have to look out for them all the time. It was what he wanted to say, but he decided against it. Again, he was treading lightly, not wishing to upset the poor girl.

And his methods of not fully speaking his mind was working, because Alexx managed a smile. "I know! I just think we should all spend some time together. Comme une famille."

The best part about being with her mother's side of the family was the fact that she could openly speak French and still be understood by everyone in the room. At school, she didn't have that luxury. It was rare to find someone that she liked who spoke French. For that matter, it was rare to find someone that she liked at all. Alexx was not easily impressed by people.

Her uncle stroked his chin a few times, fingers rubbing against the slight bit of stubble that he was working up. With age, he began to care less and less about his appearance. Instead, he presented the rough masculine vibe, the one that screamed: "I just crawled out of bed, but my natural attractiveness will make you find it desirable".

"How is he, anyway? He's so quiet. I barely remember that he is here." Jean was mostly trying to switch the subject. Away from the broader end of the word "family". He was mostly estranged with some of the Bonheur clan by now, so he did not want to have to explain that to such a young child. Though she knew more of bad family at her age than she should, he still did not want to trouble her with the family drama.

Swinging her legs, which didn't quite touch the ground yet, Alexx took another fork full of pancake. "He's always quiet. But he's fine. Just happy to be out of the house, I think. Don't worry, he'll loosen up." But that wasn't true. Texas André Séverin did not, in fact, "loosen up". He was always the same.

Jean would not force the issue, however. He knew that it was a white lie; one with the intentions of making him feel better. So he nodded instead, raising his eyebrows. "Alright. Le Petit Theatre it is."

chill babe. we're all bad in someone's story.
