Gem was not quite sure what compelled him to creep into the terrifying, weird-smelling, abandoned bathrooms. No, he had no clue what seemed to take ahold of his brain and scramble it up in such a precise, specific way to make him even consider it-- but here he was, peeking his head in curiously, his tennis shoes dragging along the musty floors, holding a book he'd brought along with him from his house. He wasn't exactly suspicious yet, (about as non-suspicious you could get in bathrooms you should have no business sticking your nose in, anyways) but something told him he shouldn't be there. Gee, Gem, I really wonder what might compel my brain to trigger my gut-feeling in this kind of environment, he thought bitterly to himself, looking into each of the stalls, using the book to push them open so he didn't have to touch them with his bare hands.

See, this is the part where a ghost/monster/terrifying entity comes out, chases Gem, kills one of his friends right before his eyes, and then for the next thirty years, Gem is confined to eternal pain and swears on his mother that he will kill every last one of that particular species because of a bitterness and hurt that was deeply locked in himself from years ago.

That did not happen.

Instead, he heard the very last stall creek, some shuffling off in the corner. Squinting, he considered his options;
One, check the stall, it's a monster and he will die.
Two, do not check the stall, do not die.
Three, do not check the stall, said monster will hear him leave, he dies.
Four, check the stall, it's another wizard, live happily ever after.
Five, check the stall, it's another wizard, get killed by said wizard because they were doing something illegal and he wasn't supposed to see.
Truly a difficult decision to make. After plenty of consideration, hoping his mother knew he loved her, and a silent deep breath, Gem brought himself closer to the stall door. He crinkled his face up, hesitating, reaching over to push the stall door open, standing behind it, only his nose, eyes and hair visible to whomever was inside.

"Hello? Is anyone in 'ere?" He narrowed his eyes, raising them when he saw a pretty girl, brown hair, squatting down in front of a pile of something. He felt safer now, so he slid into full view, tilting his head a bit at her frame. "Wot are ya doin' in here, mate?"

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

As Anais walked down the grumbling stone trail she could hear the chatter from the dining hall descend behind her. It was easier now while everyone was distracted, but she was still cautious in case anyone had been patrolling the halls. She recalled earning a detention due to Morgana Lockhart opening her big fat mouth. And, on-top of having to having to sit excruciating hours in a room with that plonker Flitwick, she was told next time she was caught: her entire house would suffer dearly and have house points deducted from them.

No matter, this time she had made positively-absolutely sure that she'd be alone for the remainder of dinner.

With each step she took, the clinking of clutter followed behind her. She quieted it down, resting her hand against the side of the small, brown, worn-out bag that hung from her shoulder to keep it from being so loud, turning at the end of the hall and making way for the leaky old bathroom.

The stalls were the exemplary spot. No one, especially not the girls wanted to get near them. You could see black track marks leading up into the depths of the toilet seat; roaches and maggots roamed freely, along with the occasional rats tugging around bits of crumbs or halves of another rodent. Fog glossed up the broken mirrors. A rumor had been started that if you were to look in them long enough you'd see a horrible, scrambled version of yourself staring back. The water was brown and it reeked of death. All signs pointed to keeping out.

Anais didn't know whether she believed in all of that or not, but she knew she was too smart to be dumb enough to not place 'her'  valuables here.

Upon entering the bathroom, the air felt heavier and her chest felt pressured. A squeaky faucet caught her attention as she walked past it towards the stalls, taking a small glance at the mirror before continuing on. She pushed it open, letting it bang against the cracked cobblestone tiles as she set her bag down on the floor in front of her, kneeling before it. Inside, she had: a folio triplicus card set that she had taken from the box of confiscated items. Spellotape, which she had taken from Seamus, and amongst other knacks she deemed important for the trip she'd be taking very soon.

Anais counted some, played with some, figuring she still had time on her hands-- until, she heard a pair of footsteps hesitantly wandering inside. Her head lifted up, and she had begun shoving most of what she had inside the small bag, ready to pounce up on the toilet seat to crouch, hide and wait until whoever was there left. But that was to no avail, because whoever this was had already barged in.

"What the hell? Wot' a ya, a bloody pervert?"

Eyebrows scrunched over her forehead as she eyed him up and down, pursing her lips and tightening her features as she quickly stuffed what had been left on the floor into her bag. "You spend oolot of time peepin' into occupied stalls, d'ya?" She now asked, getting well into his face, "Well?" she asked, expecting an answer. Anais hoped that her demeanor would set him off enough for him to just walk off, maybe buy her time to return to the dining hall without suspicion.

Gem's face contorted into a pathetic mixture of fear, confusion, and mild offense the moment he was called out, the panic setting in. Oh God, was she gonna tell everyone? It hadn't yet occurred to him that no one was legitimately using these bathrooms, he probably wouldn't get in trouble at all, it just felt like he'd accidentally walked into the girl's room on accident. His eyes were so big they'd nearly bulged out of his head, his hands balling up into fists, swinging at his sides tensely.

"Th-these are tha abandoned toilets, mate, no one is-" He squinted, sticking his neck out to look at her closer, wondering to himself whether or not he'd ever seen her before-- nope, he was drawing a blank. "You don't look like yer using them for... sanitary business," he sniffed, speaking quickly due to his nervousness. "A-and if ya were, then I suggest you, ehm, go see e' nurse. You may have contracted somefin'. It'll be gross." As much as Gem wanted to sack the conversation, turn on his heel and go, he was mildly concerned, as anyone would be if they got yelled at and being called a pervert. Actually, they would probably run out as quickly as possible, but Gem did not do that. Instead, he decided he would just stand there and continue the conversation going, even if the bathroom smelled like rot and... vaguely of compost (with a strong hint of cabbage.)

"Wot are yeh doin' in here, anyway?" He scratched his shoulder, glancing at the bag she had hurriedly shoved a good amount of items in, then back up at her. "Cos it's really murky in 'ere. I can't see why any sensible person- or, anyone wiv a nose- would come in 'ere for anything other than maybe doing drugs. You don't look like yeh do drugs, but I could be wrong. Do you do drugs?" He rambled, his breath caught in his throat. His mind was racing with thoughts that held no true relevancy to the situation at hand, not helpful, not useful, not even funny or amusing. He probably looked mentally handicapped. "Should I go?" He muttered, looking off to the side as to make sure there was no one else lingering, watching him embarrass himself the more he stuck around. This was not a highlight of his week, or summer camp at all, actually. This was, no doubt, one of the worst memories he'd ever had. He would suppress it and wake up in cold sweats thinking about it. Was he sweating now? That would be weird. This situation was weird.

Anais sneered, blowing a gust through her teeth harsh enough to blow back the stray hairs that curled against his face, causing them to sway back to his ears before settling down. She was just about to grab her things and go, but then this weirdo freak started talking. "Wot sorta roobbish ar' you talkin' about?" She looked deep into his puffed out eyes, seeing and recognizing that fear. That trembling fear. For a moment she glanced behind her towards the toilet seat. A chittering cockroach crawled up to the lid, twitching before quickly scurrying off. It caused Anais to make a small face.

"Look, woteva it is you're on about, I don't cahre. can you mo-" She had begun; but the rapid rampage of words that left the male's lips suffocated hers into the echoes of the small and confined space they were in. Quickly, her expression turned rotten. She was giving this kid a timer to move before she forcibly removed him herself.

God, the wrenching stench had begun to get to her as well. Rotten, wet, sloppy eggs.. She could taste it at the very back of her throat, and her nostrils flared as she couldn't stop herself from inhaling another breath. It was remarkable, truly. She chest clamped up, ready to heave and push out bile, but she couldn't stop sniffing, more than partly due to the fact she needed oxygen.

"Non' ya business what 'am doing here! I cood ask the same of you, you stinky rat." What was he doing here? She hadn't seen or heard anyone else coming down this hallway on her way to the lavatories. "Why aren't you at the dining hall with e'ryone else?" Her mild disgust turned into questioning. It didn't last very long, dinner would be over in a matter of time and teachers would patrol the school as everyone went up to bed. And, if she was seen she'd surely be asked why she wasn't partaking in dinner. "Move, would ya?" she groaned-- shoving the small male aside with her forearm; it was a harsh one in fact, hopefully enough to get him skidding on his sneakers.

As she scurried off a small bit of fear settled in Anais. What if he were to tell? Well, if he were, she'd give him a reason to worry about the sanitation of the abandoned bathrooms.

Gem did in fact find himself wobbling away from her, the heavy pain in his chest from her pushing him too hard. He swallowed thickly, unable to comprehend how some people could be so rude for no reason. Now he had to assume she had to have been doing drugs, because why else would anyone be this mean about someone accidentally stumbling in on them in some abandoned toilets? It was funny to think about at first, but the more it processed, the less comfortable he suddenly became.

His head lowered a little, peering over at the opening of the toilets, then back over at this girl he barely knew at all, his eyes still the size of the moon.
"Weull, ta put it short, I've really got no one to talk to. Still a bit new to tha school, allat, so I decided ta do a bit ov explorin', sue me." He scratched the back of his neck, quietly thinking to himself how he could possibly introduce himself in a situation like this. The smell of the restrooms was getting impossibly worse, her attitude seemed just as rotten, but it did remind him of his cousin, so it wasn't anything he couldn't handle.

"I'm Gem, by e' way. Who're you?" He had a mild feeling of regret spouting that question, he knew he was going to get shite back, a witty comeback, or just an ugly stare. Maybe, if he was lucky, he'd get an actual answer, but he wasn't counting on it. With people like this, he couldn't really count on anything.

Anais didn't understand why he was still talking, especially after the launch at his chest. She supposed she had to give him some sort of credit for that. She sighed. Almost out the door, right there, in fact. So why turn around to continue to listen to what this little bug had to say? He sounded like a puppy. It made her stomach churn a little, or maybe it was the pheromones in the air.  Sickening.

"Anais," she responded.

It was faint, but the rumbling of multiple footsteps of the mass students exiting the dinning hall was apparent, even from where they stood. Crap.

All she had in her bag that could potentially help was The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1) by Miranda Goshawk stuffed into her bag; but most of what that was were charm spells to light your wand or extinguish it in case you stupidly caught it on fire.

She looked his attire over.. blue. Her eyes canvassed from his uniform towards his face, and in the midsts of thinking she deepened her brows on her face. He kind of looked like a beetle, or those ugly little fish with the big noses. It was adorable in a way, but it made her want to punch him more than anything else. “Look, booger, you’re gonna help me get up to the hufflepuff dormitories, okay?” It wasn’t so much of an ask as it was a command.

“And you have to say yes because I’ve got the spell to make your nose extremely runny and uncomfortable,” a lie but she could easily stick his head in the toilet and call it the same thing.

Ana poked her head out of the bathrooms, at the end of the hall Professor McGonagall was talking to groundskeeping, something about how there had been some holes made around the back gardens that led to the forests and how the children could get hurt.

Unfortunately, that was the direction she needed to go in. He was going to be her scapegoat. “Okay, game plan.. we were uhm.. eating. And you got sick and had to throw up. At this point, you’re just as liable as I am.”
