Let The Beak Lead Our Way  Finished
[font=book antique]
It was time, finally, for River to go on her way, and find her new companion. Her mind had been set for quite a while, and she'd been doing hours upon hours of research on how to best care for such an animal.
Owls.
She had, over the past few months, read many different books on one kind in specific, the Eastern Screech Owl. If one looks back to River's first wishes of owning a pet, one would find that a cat was number one on her list. After her mind had been dwelling on the subject for a while though, she began developing more of an interest in birds rather than feline creatures.
River's first trip to the menagerie had been uneventful. Her only reason for coming in that day was to have a look at all the different animals, as she had always loved animals incredibly much. Still, at that time, she had no interest in buying a pet. After seeing all the animals in need of new homes though, her intentions of getting a pet, grew strong. Finally, it was now time to head back to the menagerie, to find her dream companion.

As River entered the shop owned by the nice old couple she'd met earlier, her eyes wandered from animal to animal. There were so many, and if she could, she'd buy them all. She'd take care of them, and give them good homes. Of course, River knew that getting that may pets would be irresposible, and she had neither the money, time or space for that many animals. And they were taken good care of here too of course.
"Hello Love", River heard a voice speak up from a little further in the shop. Her eyes shot up, and landed on a short lady standing next to the counter. "Welcome Back", she added, sending a warm smile in River's direction. The red-head was quite surprised that the lady had remembered that River came by one time before. It was quite a while ago, and River had not expected the woman to remember her face. "Oh, uhm thank you", River answered, and smiled back at the shopkeeper. She stepped further in, towards where the lady was standing. "Have you reconsidered getting a pet since last time?", the elderly woman asked River, and came up closer to the young ravenclaw. "Yes, I have indeed mrs..?", "Oh, I'm Anita Witticker, pleasure to meet you miss...?, "River, River Dewlight", The red-head answered, and slowly reached out a hand to Anita. "Well it's nice to meet you. So what brings you to our menagerie today Miss Dewlight?", Mrs Witticker asked, as she warmly shook River's hand. "I would be interested in looking at Eastern Screech Owls if you happen to have any", River asked the woman politely. "Well of course we do, come, they're right this way", she said happily, and motioned for River to follow, as she moved to the far left of the shop.

As River neared the cages of the owls, her eyes were met by the sight of numerous different types, colours and sizes of owls. Some very large white ones, and some smaller brown coloured ones. River thought they were all equally beautiful, and wanted to bring them all home with her.
One owl though, in particular caught her eyes. She recognised the type straight away, as it was very similar to the pictures she'd seen in all the books she'd read during her research. It was an Eastern Screech Owl. Instinctively, without waiting for Anita to say anything, River moved up to the cage with the small owl inside. It's large green-coloured eyes looking right at River as she carefully approached the creature. "This one is about two years old, and can be a handful until he gets used to you", Mrs. Witticker said quietly, as she noticed River moving up to the cage. "Once he's warmed up to you though, he is very sweet", she added.
River watched the little bird in front of her, with wide eyes, as she took in all his features. The red feathers, the little wings tucked in by his petite body. The small beak in between his large bright eyes. The birds head tilted slightly to the right as it looked back at the red-haired girl. He was the one, she had made up her mind. "He is very beautiful", River said, and looked over to Anita with a smile across her face. "He is indeed", she answered, and smiled back. "How much do you want for him?", River asked curiously, and turned back to look at the owl. "You'll get this boy for 15 galleons", the lady said, and looked to the bird as well.
River's heart jumped slightly as she heard the amount he would be sold for. It was, perhaps a little more than what she'd expected, but he was very pretty. She had been saving up her money for quite a while now, and spending them like this, seemed like a good choice. And even if he would be a little difficult in the beginning, River was sure they'd become great friends. She had always been one to get along well with animals.
"I think I would like to buy this one", River said politely, and nodded towards the little bird in the cage with a smile. "Of course, I'll get him ready to go. Meet me by the desk will you?, Anita said happily, and began lifting the cage in direction of the counter.
River followed excitedly behind, and met her by the counter. While Anita was preparing for the owl to be taken home, River grabbed all the things she would need to give the little guy a great home. After a few minutes, she heard the voice of Mrs. Witticker call for her. River moved up, and got everything payed for. "Goodbye Miss Dewlight. I'm happy to have been of help", The lady said, as River got everything, and began thinking of heading outside. "Thank you so much for the help Mrs. Witticker", River replied, and nodded politely to her as she turned, and happily walked out into the streets of Diagon Alley.
