The Quietest Corner
Darcy often went to the library to read and review books and her notes in some of her spare time. In her Muggle primary school, she was likely to be ridiculed, laughed at and bullied for being 'nerdy' or 'weird', but in a school where everyone was trying to give their House (in Darcy's case, Slytherin) the best reputation and image possible, nobody (in Slytherin, at least) bothered her despite her lacking in many other skills, because at least she was doing well in class.
Darcy was most often seen in one corner of the library, which never seemed to be inhabited by anyone other than herself. She very occasionally felt lonely, because she was fine doing her reading alone but it was nice to have someone to talk to. Every evening at 5:30 pm, she'd sit down and read briefly through her assigned textbooks. She'd often read until the library became crowded, making her retreat to her dormitory and get a bit of peace and quiet.
On this day, however, Darcy decided to leave that corner to read elsewhere. Maybe, if she read in the open, she'd have someone to discuss books with. At her usual time of 5:30, she went and sat closer to the center of of the library, and scribbled down her notes. 'Do.. Not tap anything with a powered wand.. it will cause it to-' but she was interrupted. She heard the door open, footsteps enter and then the distinct shuffling of books. Someone had come inside of the library... Maybe they'd want to be friends with Darcy?

The Quietest Corner
Phoenix pushed the door to the library open with her back, her pile of books stacked almost to her nose. She wasn’t too keen on reading but she had forgotten about a crucial piece of transfiguration homework and had to cram it in at the last minute. She had eventually got it done but now had to return the many books she had borrowed to complete it.
She dropped her books down gracelessly, grunting as the weight was removed from her arms. After returning her books she noted that the library was yet to fill with the influx of kids that was typical for this time of the evening. She glanced around to see if she recognised anyone. She could see a couple of brother’s friends but they were 4th years and she didn’t feel like sitting with them. She looked again and smiled, relieved when she saw another Slytherin sat at a table in the centre of the room.
Phoenix wandered over and sat in the chair furthest away, not wanting to intrude, and got out her parchment and quill. There were still a few pieces of homework that she needed to get done and decided she may as well finish them while she is here.

The Quietest Corner
Darcy, not noticing that a person had actually entered the library and assumed it was just a breeze (or, the most common scenario, a ghost), finished up her D.A.D.A. homework, and, reaching for her non-existent glasses (which she had, once again, forgotten to put on that morning) ended up looking up. She had realised that sitting across from her was another Slytherin First-Year, which she happened to know the name of. It was Pheonix, and the only reason she remembered her name is that it just so happened to be one of Darcy's favourite names.
The girl seemed to be working on her own homework, so, not wanting to disturb her, she just glanced up every few minutes, trying to grab her attention just a little. Eventually, she managed to get a quick glance back, and decided to mutter just loud enough for her to hear, but not so loud that it disrupted the very few people in the room, a quick "Hey." She smiled awkwardly. Darcy just wanted to make small talk, so that she could at least form a quick bond.
She made sure her ink was dry before reaching across the table and opening her hand out. "I'm Darcy. Darcy Payne."

The Quietest Corner
Phoenix was struggling to concentrate on her homework, like usual. She had never had the patience for sitting down and just getting on with it, preferring the more practical elements of learning. It wasn’t uncommon for her to be seen in here rushing her homework at the last minute or claiming to be sick to get out of handing it in in class. This was a trait that irritated her parents immensely as she was very smart and when she applied it to her work she managed to get decent grades.
She had noticed the other girl looking up occasionally but assumed that maybe she was waiting for someone, so she paid her little mind. Phoenix was going to pack up her stuff and leave for the evening when she looked up, this time making eye contact with the girl. The girl whispered a small “hey” to her before introducing herself as Darcy. Phoenix did recognise the girl, although she hadn’t been 100% sure on her name and decided that she was nice enough in all of their classes. Who knew, maybe she would make a new friend?
Phoenix reached out to return the handshake, giving a small smile as she replied.

Darcy smiled broadly. Pheonix seemed really nice, and friendly! "So, how's the homework going?" Darcy had noticed a couple of signs of impatience, and she understood. Darcy used to feel the same, so she wanted to get onto the subject of work, and maybe she could lend a couple of notes. Darcy was especially good at D.A.D.A. so she had six pages of notes, some from inference and extra research, so she had enough of notes to share- she just hoped she wasn't doing History Of Magic- Darcy was terrible at muggle history too, and the homework wasn't much better.
Just in case the scenario did happen that ended in them exchanging notes, she got some of her best out into a neat pile atop the dried-ink-covered table. The top note page read, in tiny, scribbly handwriting;

She had used this for her potions class homework (which, thankfully, had neater handwriting) for question two. "If you, uh, want any help, you can share my notes." She said with a small and genuine polite smile on her face. Darcy didn't like making friends so that she could be the most popular (being a little popular was fine with her, however..) but rather so that she had someone to talk to. She wanted to come off as a kind person, but not too goody-goody at the same time.ᴺᵒᵗᵉˢ

“So how’s the homework going?”
Phoenix sighed at the question.
“Honestly it’s easy. Just really boring. I’ve never been good at concentrating on this sort of stuff,” she looked down at the scribbled work in front of her with a huff.
She was surprised when Darcy offered to share her notes and the genuine smile behind her words caused Phoenix to grin ecstatically.
“Thanks! I might just take you up on that in the future,” said with a small laugh. However instead of writing more on her own page she screwed the lid back on her ink and tucked it back in her bag along with her parchment and quill.
Phoenix decided that this opportunity to make a friend outweighed the amount of homework she still needed to do and so instead she stood up and moved seats, sitting in the one next to Darcy. Phoenix had always been outgoing and never shied away from an adventure but she didn’t know whether Darcy was like that too and didn’t want to scare her away. As such she decided to propose a mini-adventure. Something that didn’t go against the school rules but could still be a blast.
“Hey! Do you want to go and explore the abandoned toilets?” She said with an excited grin.
