All was quiet. Or, it was quiet in Millie's mind. In reality, the hallways were filled with screaming kids and professors trying to make kids get out. To the grounds or to the common room. Classes had just finished for the first years, and Millie had a letter she needed to send off.

Dear Mom,

I got your letter the other day and I thought I should go ahead and reply. I hope you and dad have a good time in America. Though, I thought you went for grandma's funeral. I'm completely okay with staying here, at Hogwarts, for the summer. Tell great-aunt Diane that I miss her a whole bunch. Though, if I'm real honest with you, I don't care.

Honey's doing fine, she's all ready for Summer break. Do you remember when I first got her, and I came up here, and then poor Alan got attacked by the owls? I have to bring her up here every time, or else the owls will get me out of revenge. It's all good, though. I haven't spoken to Alan, River, or Isaac since the follow-up day after.

Anyway, I'll keep this letter short so you don't have to read the whole thing to dad.

With love,

After giving her letter to the tawny brown owl sitting in front of her, she watched it fly away with much curiosity. Why did owls get wings, and humans didn't? Why did cats get the ability to jump all the way from the stony ground, to the bench where the owl was perched?

As absentmindedly as she was lolly-gagging, Millie couldn't help but look up when the door to the Owlery opened, and a boy her age walked in. Leaning against the bench where Honey sat, Millie smiled at the newcomer, her bright purple eyes scanning him.

"Hey there," She started.
"You alright?"

Owling a dungbomb wasn’t mean, right? At least, it wasn’t mean when the person you were mailing it to had doused you with water balloons a few days prior. Carson was thoroughly covinced he was in the right here, this was an act of revenge. He smiled at the letter he’d written:
Dear Maggie,

this is for the water balloons. ⬇️

It was a crude letter, sure, but Carson was still picking water balloons from his hair this morning, and he jumped a little every time her heard a splash. He walked into the owlery, a pleased grin already forming on his face. “Hey there,” Carson turned, noticing the girl standing in the owlery, a letter in hand. She had brown hair, fair skin, and— were her eyes purple? He’d never seen purple eyes before, but he did go to a magic boarding school in the middle of Scotland, so he didn’t really linger on the girl’s eye color. “You alright?” she asked, and Carson grinned widely at her in response. “Never better.” he smiled, walking over to the owl he’d always used to send his mum and sister letters. It was a big, brown owl, with hair on its face that made it look like it had eyebrows. Which is why Carson had named the owl “eyebrows”. Eyebrows was a school owl, but Carson had grown fond of him. “You?” he asked, as both a common courtesy and an attempt to get rid of the silence of the room.

Something Millie had always found interesting, was that people always lingered over her eyes. And her name, but that was completely up to the person- she learned that a lot of people had odd names like she did. Her eyes, were a completely different story. They were an inheritance from her great-grandmother, who died before she was born. It was the only recessive trait Millie had gotten from anyone in her families- both of them.

A grin forming on her face, Millie kicked herself off of the bench, and Honey curiously stirred from her position, looking up at both Millie, and the boy. Suddenly, the cat leaped from where she stood and onto the girl's shoulder. Though Millie didn't look like this bothered her (which it didn't) the cat was literally giant.

"Me?" She joked. "I'm doing alright, I guess." She switched the cat from her shoulders, to her arms, and held the cat like a baby. "If this kitty right here didn't feel the need to break my shoulders, then I think I'd feel a bit better."

She smiled again towards the boy. "Who's the letter for?" Though she sounded careless, Millie was pretty curious. She didn't want to seem rude, though. "You don't have to tell me- I don't wanna make you uncomfortable."
