And What Of Schrödinger's Cat?  Pet
The Book

In the Alptraum family mansion there was a library. It wasn't nearly as grand as the one in Hogwarts, but it was still ridiculously large. Every wall was a shelf, and in the middle of the room there were a few comfy seats, that were arranged to be a reading area. It was a quiet space. And despite its size, it was a comforting space. It was home. It was here where the eldest Alptraum daughter would spend some of her free time. The Alptraums library had a number of books, many of them were old text, that could no longer be found in today's time. On the top shelves were the text written by now deceased family members. They were hundreds of years old- very delicate, and very valuable. They were placed there so the two Alptraum children couldn't get their grubby little hands on them. The family text would remain on the top shelves for many years, growing dusty from neglect.

On the middle shelves were some philosophy books, books about bugs and animals, and some old literature. There were also some horribly misplaced childrens books amongst the clutter. Xailah was nine years old at the time, so she was unable to reach the childrens books at the time. She would have been unable to reach them with a ladder, she always felt uneasy when atop a ladder. Step stools were out of the question because they weren't tall enough to reach. On occasion she would get her parents, or another family member to retrieve a out of reach book, but not very often. Sometimes her parents were not home, so she was left with the servants. Servants were not allowed in the library, because of the family text. In fact the only people that were allowed in there were family members. Sometimes Xailah was not allowed in the library, so she would sometimes have to sneak in if she wanted to read.

And because she wanted to make as little noise as possible when in the library, she was often left to read the books on the bottom shelves. What was on the bottom shelves? Boring books. Very boring books. But the young Xailah grew to love them. There were books about psychology, and physics, some old medical books, an instruction manual or two about a strange muggle contraption called a Television. She seemed to show little interest in the books about physics, but there would be one that she remembered. She wouldn't remember the name of it, but she would remember a strange part in it where it discussed a man named Schrödinger putting a cat in a box, and then him guessing if it was dead or alive- that might not have been what exactly happened, but from what she remembered, it was something along those lines. The book would only be picked up once by Xailah, and would remain on the lower shelves growing dusty with all the others.

The Cat

On October 31st, 2015 the blue Chartreux, that was to be named Schrödinger; would be born. His destiny unknown. He was born in an elderly mans well kept backyard. Schrödingers mother was a stray. The elderly man used to feed the stray cats in the neighborhood, so the strays trusted him to some degree. Schrödinger had at total of three brothers and sisters. So there were four cute grey-blue kittens in total, and one mother. Schrödinger was the runt of the litter. He was a bit smaller than the others. But he was strong, and healthy.

Upon finding the mother cat and her four babies, the elderly man immediately began to search home for the family of cats. The mother and the one of the female kittens was the first to be adopted. They went to an kind old woman. The other female was adopted by a family that had three children. The male was adopted by a young woman who trained and photographed cats and dogs- and the occasional exotic bird.

For some strange reason the man couldn't find a home for the runt. So for the first few months of Schrödingers life, he would remain with the elderly man. One day the man had to move. His doctor said he needed to go somewhere with a drier climate. On the day of the move Schrödinger was inspecting some of the moving boxes, that were in the driveway. That was the last time the elderly man would see the stray Schrödinger. Schrödinger had ended up wandering into one of the empty boxes, and fell asleep. No one bothered checking the box; the man just assumed that Schrödinger had simply left. Schrödinger was packed into a truck along with the mans furniture.

He would not make the trip. The people who had packed the mans stuff did a crap job of tying everything down, so some belongings fell off the truck. Including the box that held a previously sleeping Schrödinger. The box would be found by a wizard that could not own a cat. Being near one would make him swell up like a balloon. So he did the only thing that someone deathly allergic to cats could do. Leave it on someones doorstep. The box containing the blue cat was left on the doorstop of the local wizarding petshop; the Magical Menagerie.

The Purchase

Schrödinger would be purchased from the Magical Menagerie on January 31st 2015. Exactly three months from the time of his birth. The youngest Alptraum girls birthday was on January 27th. Xailahs parents were taking their children there so they could pick out a new pet. It would be a semi-late birthday present for their youngest daughter. Plus they thought it would be a good time to teach their children about responsibility.

The children had never been in a petshop before, so this was a great surprise. It was like a tiny zoo, but here you could actually take the animals home with you. It was here, Xailah would discover that she had a irrational fear of pygmy puffs. The youngest Alptraum had decided to get a fluffy pink pygmy puff. It was cute for awhile. But then it got out of its little pen one night, snuck into Xailahs room, and put its freakishly long tongue in her ear. It was not a pleasant experience.

Anyway, Xailah had been spending a awful long time looking for a nice new pet. Her parents tried to convince her to get a pygmy puff, as well, but she quickly lost interest in (what could be confused as) colorful balls of dryer lint. That was when she saw him. The most fascinating creature to exist. A creature with blue fur and vibrant copper eyes. He was the one. Cats were adored among the Alptraum family, so it took little convincing to purchase one.

Schrödinger had been at the Magical Menagerie for two weeks, since he was left on the doorstep; so the shops owner was thrilled when she heard (her husband was not in the shop at the time) that someone wanted to purchase the cat. The Alptraums paid for both pets, and went out the door. But the elderly woman stopped Xailah, and told her how Schrödinger had been found, and how lucky Xailah was to purchase him. Xailah thanked the woman and exited the shop with a smile. When the family arrived at home, Xailahs parents asked what she was going to call the cat. "Schrödinger" was all she said. And upon Schrödinger receiving his name, his destiny was set in stone. He would live a life of luxury, a life he deserved. He grew to be plump and lazy. For almost four years he would remain the family pet.

The Companion

The cat Schrödinger would arrive at Hogwarts on June 29th, 2019. It was Xailahs birthday. He was to accompany her and be her familiar. Her companion. He was something to care for, which is exactly what the young girl needed. And having to care for him would keep her from making rash decisions, for some time.
