The Full Truth, Not Just Part Solo Finished

The one thing Rosie didn’t want to do during her summer was seeing her god damn bloody mother.

She chose not to go to a summer camp that year, choosing to spend more time with her new stepdad. Rosie was… Not nice to him last summer. She was overcome with anger that her mother left, and her father remarried and decided it would be a good idea to surprise Rosie, and it was all released on him. Not to mention her stepdad’s name was Max. She hated that name. Well, not as much anymore. She was more scared of that name. It was unsettling the absence of it. Max Avery had dropped off the face of the Earth.

Not like she cared, that wasn’t the point.

But Rosie was home, and that’s all that mattered. She walked into her home, holding her biological father’s hand as she skipped up the step. It wasn’t the biggest home in the world, but it was home. All of her friends had mansions, or at the very least bigger houses, mostly because she was friends with purebloods. Pureblood families who wanted nothing to do with a muggle family. So that threw visiting them out the window. It made her a little sad. Well, really sad, actually. But she was born to smile! And smile she would, even if she didn’t feel it.

Anyway, moving on from that depressing mess, Rosie was home! She excitedly dropped off her bag on the couch and went back to hug her dad again. It had been so long, she was going to have trouble not clinging onto him. “I missed you guys so much. Really. I was always so busy so I couldn’t send many letters.”

Eren smiled and hugged his daughter back, running a hand down her head. “It’s alright, it matters that you’re here now.” He pulled back, smiling at her. “You still haven’t hit that growth spurt, but you will!”

Rosie pouted and laughed. “Shush! I’m going to! And then I’ll be taller than even you, dad.” She hopped onto the arm rest and stood on it, wobbling a bit.

“Don’t hurt yourself already!” Eren groaned, picking up Rosie and throwing her over his shoulder. “To the kitchen!” He cheered, walking there. Rosie shrieked and laughed as he carried there, and it came to a slow and steady silence as he saw Max, the stepdad, not the bully, standing there. Rosie hopped down from Eren and looked up at him, quiet for a moment. Max looked a little nervous. Just a bit.

Rosie smiled and walked up, hugging her stepdad tight. “I missed you.”

Max blinked a few times, glancing up at his husband. He smiled and hugged his stepdaughter back. “Welcome home, Rosie. I missed you too.” He whispered, planting a kiss on top of her head. He was nervous for most of the year on how the summer would be, but now he was relaxing.

Rosie pulled back with a grin. “Where’s Benny? I missed him so much, even if his baby vomit was super annoying.” She turned around and went on a search for him, and nearly stumbled over Mr. Fluffers, the king of cats. She gasped obnoxiously loud, like a drama queen. “MR. FLUFFERS!” She lifted him into the air and hugged him. He meowed out of resistance, but he couldn’t hide from the princess of the house. “I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!!” Rosie planted a kiss on his furry head. “MWAH.” Mr. Fluffers was about eight years old now, and they adopted him when he was just a kitten. Rosie was five. Benny hadn’t even been born yet. The cat was starting to squirm and Rosie let him down. “Grumpy.” She huffed, pouting.

The Hufflepuff went off to find her little brother, who was in his terrible toddler ages. He came waddling around the corner, and Rosie grinned. He was walking! Benny tried running over to his sister, but tripped and fell. “Oh, goddammit.” Rosie muttered, walking over and lifting him up. “Hey there.” She beamed, patting him on the head. He might’ve been an annoying baby brother, but she still loved him. Rosie set him back down and walked back to the kitchen. “Is it food time--”

The doorbell rang.

She glanced at the door, raising an eyebrow. Not many people came to visit their home. Their relatives were distant, especially after her mom left. Rosie glanced at her dads and they looked at each other, concern on their faces. They must’ve had the same thought. “Do you want me to go get it…?”

“No.” Eren cut in, before fixing his expression. “Start dinner with Max, I’ll get the door.” Eren fixed his collar slightly and went to go answer the door.

Rosie blinked a few times and just shrugged, going over to Max. She hopped onto the stool to grab a pot for the water they were boiling, nearly falling back before her stepdad caught her. “Thanks.” She grinned, tilting her head up to look at him. Rosie hopped down from the stool and put the pot on the stove. Dinner was going fine so far! Even Benny wanted to help, but obviously, he couldn’t. His baby hands could barely hold the baby food cartons.

But then there was yelling.

Rosie glanced at the door, and her heart sank when she recognized the voice yelling back at her father. It was her mom. The one who left them on a whim. The one who left her family without even a hint of a goodbye to her or Benny. Sure, finding out your husband actually likes men a lot more than women is pretty heartbreaking, but you still have kids, lady! But now, it seemed like she cared about seeing them, because it was exactly what she was yelling about.

“You can’t keep me away from them, Eren!”

“You made that decision yourself when you left this family, get off my goddamn property!”

“WE BOUGHT THIS HOUSE TOGETHER.”

Rosie glanced at her stepdad, who looked like he was ready to jump her mother with his visibly clenched jaw. She pursed her lips and bolted out of the kitchen and rushed up next to her father, looking up at her. She looked the same. Her mother had long brown hair, just like her, but straight. (The hair is straight, that is. Though her mom was also straight, unlike Rosie.) She wore a long yellow sundress, with black flats. The angry expression on her face faded when she saw Rosie, and instead, she smiled.

“Look at how you’ve grown.” She reached a hand out to touch Rosie’s face, but her father put an arm out in front of his daughter. Her mother seemed like she was about to start blowing fire. “She’s still my daughter, Eren.”

“It’s okay, dad.” Rosie said quietly, but she looked skeptical. Her father reluctantly put his arm away, and Rosie looked up at her mom.

Her mother let out a sigh of relief and hugged her daughter suddenly, crouching down to do so. “Oh, how I’ve missed you so much. I know I left suddenly, but I needed time to think on my life. I hope you can forgive me.”

Rosie blinked a few more times, before slowly hugging her mother back. Maybe it would be okay. Maybe the families could get along, maybe--

“I know you’re trapped in this bloody house. I hope they’re not trying to influence their ways onto you. Their lifestyle is something I never wanted you to be faced with.”

Rosie froze. Their lifestyle? Trapped? Faced with? She didn’t mean… She couldn’t possibly mean… Their marriage? Rosie pulled back suddenly and stared at her mother with wide eyes. That’s why they divorced. It wasn’t just the fact her father loved someone else, but it was because her mother didn’t love who her father was. Because he wasn’t straight. She suddenly clenched her jaw and shoved her mother away, bolting into the house and up the stairs.

It was a lie. It was all a lie. Her mother was an ignorant woman who thought Rosie was being kept in a Pride Month Crackhead Household. She ran into her room and slammed the door, starting to breathe heavily. What if they had never divorced? Her mother would’ve known all about her. The conversation with Sorrel. Her crush on Serena. What would she have done with Rosie? Thrown her out? She saw a picture on her dresser. It was Rosie, her little brother as a newborn, her father, and her mother. She glared through watery eyes as she made her way over. She picked up the frame and screamed as she threw it against the wall. It was a lie. Her mother wasn’t the kindhearted, open minded woman she thought she was. She wanted to get Rosie out of the house because of that reason alone.

Rosie went to her bed and crawled up in the covers, trembling. After a few moments, her fathers came up to comfort her. Eren sat on the edge of the bed and put a hand on her shoulder, frowning. “I’m sorry I never told you the full truth, love.” He whispered.

She sniffled and sat up from the blanket, hugging her parents. “I love you guys.” Rosie whispered, sitting in between them. “I’m sorry I couldn’t be there to defend you at the time, dad.” She said sadly. “I didn’t know you guys divorced because of… That.” It hadn’t been because her father loved another.

Eren kissed her head and let out a gentle sigh. “I’m sorry your summer had to start out like this, I had no idea she was coming.”

She wiped her eyes and glanced at the door, Mr. Fluffers had come to visit. Rosie pet his head and rested her head against Max’s shoulder. “I’m just glad to be home with you guys.”

And there was nowhere else she would’ve rather been.
